How long did the fast weight loss last for you?
rnsamantha replied to KathyRS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't lose that fast, but 2.5 months out I am still losing 3-4 lbs per week. -
Edamame pasta
rnsamantha replied to Caroline08042015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have. It's okay, but kind of heavy in my stomach. It's very thin and fragile so be careful taking it out of the package. It didn't agree with me, but I'm not sure if it was the pasta or the sauce (I have trouble with ground beef) that did it. -
Anyone have trouble getting enough calories?
rnsamantha replied to mataz78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How far out from surgery are you? I found for the first 4-6 weeks I was at 500 or less. Now I have started to get some hunger back and am working out. I typically eat between 700-900 daily now. I'm almost 10 weeks out. I do have to eat some snacks (cheese strings, yogurt) during the day in addition to my meals to get the calories up. I also drink a protein shake daily. My surgeon would like me to eat 1000 calories/day, but I find that hard to do with healthy choices simply because of stomach space/timing issues with water consumption! -
Pre-op weightloss
rnsamantha replied to annabreke84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my surgeon not to let my BMI drop below 40 until I was approved for surgery. Since I started with a BMI of 41, this means I only lost 5 lbs during my 6 month supervised diet. After I was approved I lost 16 during my 2 week preop diet. Everyone's insurance is different. Mine had said it would be based on my initial weight--but I didn't trust them enough to risk it! -
I held off on exercise/cardio for the first 6 weeks postop mostly due to lack of energy. At 3 weeks out I still had some pain at my left sided incision with bending/twisting. I can see how jogging would put some stress on it and probably cause pain. It will get better!

Constant acid reflux 2 weeks post
rnsamantha replied to clcp1980's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also had the sleeve. Omeprazole and Nexium weren't working for me, now I use Prevacid that seems to be working better although I still take tums occasionally -
I just got the charge HR. I like being able to see my HR during exercise to check if I'm working hard enough. The step count is inaccurate if you do things involving a lot of arm movement (ie Zumba) or on stair climber if you are hanging on to the rails. Nonetheless it at least estimates you calorie burn based on your HR, and it's handy that I can sync it to my fitness pal.

If this happens to me I will be thrilled. Life as a women's size 11 shoe ain't easy! I'm just over 2 months out, and so far my feet are the same size...

That's so exciting! I can't wait until I get there too---hopefully by October. I'm at 218 presently (started at 278, surgery was 6/25/15). Can't wait to join you there!!!

I had a six month supervised diet requirement that I started 10/2014. Submitted to insurance in early May, and got approved approximately 3 weeks later. Surgery was June 25. So overall eight months for me. It felt like a long time, but I am so happy I had it done!!

More energy or less energy / fatigue after sleeve
rnsamantha replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a lot of fatigue before my surgery too. Honestly, it's worse afterwards for at least a little while 2-4weeks for me). I joined the gym at 7 weeks out because I finally found I had the energy to do so. I'm 9 weeks postop now. I still nap on weekends and typically and I'm bed by 9, but in that first month there were a lot of times I was going to bed as soon as I got home from work--around 6:30pm. -
I am now brave enough to do .....?
rnsamantha replied to Healthy_life2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Go to the gym and do cardio hip hop class despite my innate lack of rhythm, because at least I don't feel like everyone is thinking I'm the fattest one there (even though sometimes I still feel that way). I haven't graduated to naked selfies yet ???? -
My surgeon recommended it for at least the first 30 days. I had no issues with reflux before surgery or for the first 3 weeks post-op...then it reared its ugly head. Omeprazole and Nexium haven't been effective for me. I've moved on to Prevacid which seems to work better, but I still carry TUMS in my purse too! I'm 9 weeks out, and hope it improves over the long term, but still feel the reflux is a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things.

Weight loss at 6 months?
rnsamantha replied to jjyogalove's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm almost 9 weeks out and have been fortunate not to have hit any stalls. I average around 3-4lbs per week. I'm 34, female, starting BMI was 40.1, now around 33. I have started working out 5 days per week (both cardio and strength) to try and keep this momentum going. It's true, everyone is different!! -
I'm a myfitnesspal user too.

Right now I'm using bariatric advantage chews, the 500 Mg variety 3x per day. Tropical orange has become my favorite. Caramel is good, but a bit too sweet for me. They have 4g carbs in each chew/1 g sugar, and are 15 calories each.

How many of the citrical petites do you have to take a day to get 1500mg calcium (my surgeon's recommendation)?

Do you weigh yourself everyday? Bad/good?
rnsamantha replied to wagyu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weigh myself daily, and sometimes am up. I only log my weight once weekly though which keeps me from getting discouraged. -
I love ricotta bake. I eat dannon triple zero vanilla Greek yogurt with some thawed frozen berries over top each morning for breakfast. I eat light cheese strings for snacks, hummus with cheese crisps (baked shredded cheese) for a treat!

The only time they weighed me in a hospital gown was on the day of my surgery. I will confess that for my last couple weight loss visits I ate a big breakfast, drank a liter of water, wore my heaviest necklace and kept my keys/phone etc in my pocket with weigh ins because I was afraid if my BMI dropped below 40 insurance wouldn't approve me!

June 24th Peeps chime in!
rnsamantha replied to Sleevefornellie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started working out last week and although I haven't truly stalled yet, my scale actually went up 1 lb. I weigh myself daily (bad habit, I know!), but only log my weight once a week. I'm still down for the week overall. I'm with you on the clothes though! The pants I bought one week postop that were too tight are now getting too big and I just pulled them out to see if I fit in them yet! -
I didn't weigh enough the first time I looked into surgery because I didn't have any qualifying comorbidities. It was very discouraging. After two more yo-yo diets over a year I unfortunately met the weight criteria. Although I don't advocate trying to gain 40 lbs to hit that BMI, I'm happy in the long run that I was able to qualify for surgery.

I've made the baked cheese too. 1 tsp of whatever kind you like baked on parchment paper for 7-10 mins at 350. Makes great dip for hummus.

I'm having sautéed zucchini noodles (made with my vegetti) with a tbsp of pesto, some grilled chicken and Parmesan cheese!
