Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!

I'm 5'9.5". My start weight was 278 in June 2015, my goal was 175lbs. Now I'm sitting at 169lbs. I'm pretty happy with where I'm at (size 10 on the bottom, medium on top), but I have revised my goal to 165lbs because I fear the "bounce" of regain! This is the lowest weight I've been since my teens and I couldn't be happier. I'm still at the upper end of my BMI, but happy to be "normal"

    C25K

I did C25K! Proud to say that I can run 5 K in 33 minutes now and trying to get to under 30 minutes. I do mine all on the treadmill (at a 2.5% incline to try and "simulate" outdoor conditions). Unfortunately I'm not allowed running right now due to an injury which is bugging me since I just signed up for a 4.2 mile run in April!
  4. I wish I'd never tasted the crap foods, as I find it hard to eliminate them now. It's a handful here and there. Chocolate, potato chips, soda are all on that list. I can only eat small quantities of these foods which is a blessing, but 7 months out I worry it's a slippery slope. I'm at my goal weight but am terrified of regain and know I need to curb these habits sooner rather than later. Thinking about a 5 day liquid diet to reset.

    Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

171.0 for me this morning. I'm bouncing back and forth between 170-171. Maybe this is my maintenance weight??
  6. I do Tabata, which is similar to HIIT. I lift weights 4 days/week, cardio (typically running on the treadmill or stairclimber) 6 days/week. Lifting weights has helped me build muscle--and I like to think it's helping with loose skin, but there's still some problem areas. If financially feasible I highly recommend a personal trainer, as working with mine has helped me become more comfortable/less intimidated by the weights section of the gym, and she keeps me from getting stuck in the same routine!

  8. "Your husband must be so happy now!". Really?! Because our relationship must have been completely based on looks and at 100 lbs heavier I must have somehow been a disappointment to him? I'm not sure how people realizes this sounds, but to me it implies that I went through surgery only for my husband's personal happiness and not my own!!

    What are you guys eating?

Greek yogurt with berries for breakfast, beef barley soup and a cheese string for lunch, 2 premier protein shakes (1 for dinner, 1 post workout). Unfortunately I also caved and had 2 brownies at work. Made a resolution to recommit to tracking ALL my food (good or bad). Hoping it helps me rethink caving to cravings. I've been getting lax on the carbs ????
  10. I love my Fitbit Charge HR and wear it daily. It's held up well over the last 4 months. All of my exercise is done at the gym, and I am mostly a treadmill, weights-based workout person, so it's ideal for me. I use couch to 5 K app as well, although now I've graduated to 5K, so it's basically just a timer. I use My Fitness Pal, although 6 months out I am not nearly as diligent about tracking and need to get back on board with this!

    Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

I'm in. I will post my start weight Monday. My goal is 165 lbs!
  13. I'm a gym rat nowadays. I lift weights for 30-45 minutes, followed by 30-40 minutes of stair climber/escalator machine or jogging on the treadmill. I lift weights 4 out of the 5 days/week I'm at the gym. I just completed the couch to 5K app and found it really helped get me to a point where I could run continuously. I do work with a trainer 2 days per week since before her I was too intimidated to go into the weight lifting area of the gym!

    Goal Weight and handling comments

True, I was pretty surprised that at a size 10 the BMI chart still considers me overweight. I do work out and lift weights, but I am by no means muscular!!

    Goal Weight Setting

I chose my goal weight of 175lbs and my surgeon stated he felt I could reasonably meet it and maybe exceed it. Now 6 months postop I'm at my original goal and think I'm going to shoot for 160 lbs now. At the beginning of all this when I weighed 278, 175 was such a unfathomable weight! Now I feel like with dedication to the plan I can get to 160!

    Goal Weight and handling comments

I had gastric sleeve in June, and at that time set my goal weight for 175lbs (I weighed 278 at the time with a BMI of 41--female 5'9.5"). Now I'm hovering between 173 and 175. Although my BMI is still technically overweight (25.5) the comments have already started that I might be getting too thin. I think once people get used to seeing you a certain size they have a hard time seeing you as a normal size person. Personally, I would like to lose 15 lbs for a goal of 160. I'm going to do what's best for me. Peanut gallery be damned!

Yay! My hair is growing back!

Yes, that's what happens. I notice more in my hairbrush, the sink, and coming out in my hand when washing. It's not coming out in handfuls, and I'm not balding, but I'm certainly "shedding" more than normal!

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

I was sleeved 6/25/15. These are my first before and afters! I have lost 105 lbs, down from a size 20-22W to a 10 in 6 months. Working out 5 days/week and I have adjusted my goal to try and lose 13 more lbs for a goal of 160 lbs!
  20. The first time I mentioned weight loss surgery to my husband was when I went for a lapband consult about 2 years ago. He expressed that he felt I could lose the weight if I stuck to a diet and exercise program. So I worked with a personal trainer, did low carb and lost 50 lbs to get down to 200 lbs (still overweight)....and then I gained all back plus 30 more lbs over the next year. When I told him I was going to pursue gastric sleeve, he was a little concerned, but overall very supportive. I think seeing me make a concerted effort (one of many failed weight loss attempts) and simply ending up even heavier than before helped reinforce to him that I really could not do it on my own with any long term success. Now I'm 6 months post sleeve, down 105 lbs, and for the first time in my adult life an almost "normal" BMI of 25.5. As a side note, I'm also very happy I didn't get the band as when I went for my consultation this time around the general perception towards the band had really changed in terms of potential complications.

Do You Eat Breakfast? What Do You Have?

I always eat breakfast. Generally 4-5 oz triple zero vanilla Greek yogurt with about 1 oz berries on top or a RTD premier protein shake. My surgeon always advocates getting your protein in food forms rather than relying on shakes, but I still do 1 per day since they're convenient and delicious!

    Loose skin after surgery

I'm 35 and have lost just over 100 lbs in the 6 months since my surgery. I'm at my goal weight (175) although my BMI is still 25.5--I'm thinking of a new goal weight of 160 now! The bulk of my loose skin is in my breasts. I do have a little on my stomach, upper thighs, and upper arms. Working out has definitely helped with the arms, but there's probably always going to be a bit of a flap there! I may have plastics in the future, but I am happy to take the loose skin over the 100 extra lbs!!

    Reflux and gastric sleeve

I had the sleeve. Although I had no previous problems with reflux I will say that the GERD was a real problem for the first 3-4 months after surgery. I went through a lot of different mess trying to find one that would alleviate it. Fortunately in my case it has essentially resolved at 6 months postop, but everyone is different.
