  1. I was a Diet Dr. pepper addict. 3 liters per day. The chevron guy and I had a relationship based on my addiction---he would go get them from the cooler when he saw me pull in!! 6 weeks off of it and now I wonder if he thinks I died!! Although I read on here that some people go back to soda postop I know I need to stay away....its a slippery slope back to my 3 liter habit, plus I have way less headaches now!

No appetite 3 weeks post sleeve

I had my surgery June 25 and am in the same boat. Getting 70 g of protein a day by drinking 2 protein shakes (60g) right there. The protein shakes go down easy, but food is another thing altogether. I can eat about two oz of cottage cheese/yogurt/lentils etc. and typically need to walk after I eat to help it settle because I get nauseated. If I eat too fast of more solid foods (ie egg, fish) I vomit. I'm getting just over 500 calories per day, and just managing to get 60 oz of water in total. Glad to know I'm not the only one having issues!

    June 24th Peeps chime in!

I'm using the premixed premier protein (160 calories). Maybe I should start mixing them myself with milk to get more calories.

I've moved on to mushy foods, but am so tired by the end of the day. I can only eat 1-2 oz of solids and if I try more I vomit. Still drinking 2 protein shakes per day, but averaging only about 500 calories which I think is contributing to the fatigue. I'm worried my body is going to go into starvation mode if I can't get more calories in. Anyone else having solid food/energy struggles?

    How much time off work?

I took 9 days off (surgery 6/25, back to work July 6). I work in an office. It's been okay. I am tired by the end of the day though (work 8-5).

Actually, I guess it's 14 since surgery. Mental math at 0700---not my strong suit!

I've lost almost 30 since the start of my preop diet 1month ago), about 10 since surgery. Started mashed foods yesterday with a scrambled egg and it didn't go well (vomited). Tilapia went better last night, but I can only eat about an ounce of solids. No other issues here!

One week post-op HOW ARE WE DOING?

I was sleeved on the 25th. The first couple of days I was really sore and slept a lot. Today I am taking Tylenol only and feeling better. I am still struggling with liquids. So far I've got 40 oz water down today and am working on my 3rd protein shake. I'm trying to get 60 oz water down before the end of today!

I have a swollen lump too! That's where the most of my pain has been. It's less swollen today, but about the size of a dinner roll. Mines in the same place on the left side so I guess we're somewhat normal??!

@@chelleshocked, I'm with you on the warm fluids! They seem to go down much easier than cold ones!

    June 24th Peeps chime in!

I had my surgery the 25th. I think I was a bit unrealistic in my expectations that I would be a bit sore but otherwise normal by postop day 1. In actuality I have had more incisional pain (particularly on the left side of my stomach) and the pain meds have made me very sleepy. Today I am just taking Tylenol as my pain has decreased. As far as a BM goes, I just started passing gas yesterday and had a small one today. I'm also learning to pace the fluids as I get more pain/nausea if I drink too fast. Trying to get all my water in, but yesterday was only 40 oz. hoping today is better!

    Liquid Diet

Today is my last day! I'm only allowed clear liquids today--no protein shakes. Woke up with a major headache and nausea which certainly curbed my appetite. Now I'm starting to feel hungry but just keep sipping. I just have to get through it today!! Surgery tomorrow morning!

I just bought my Gas-X strips and a box of premier protein shakes. I will still have some boxes of broth, sf jello, bariatric advantage shakes left from my preop diet. Need to start packing my bag!

    ISO: Phoenix support groups

I'm from the East Valley. I know there is a support group at Phoenix St. Lukes (Bridges Center) once a month, I think it's on the first Tuesday. Banner also has support groups weekly at Banner Gateway (located in Gilbert) that I attend. I think I heard they have a similar support group at Banner Estrella on the west side. These programs are open to anyone--you don't have to have surgery by that facility (my surgery will be at St. Lukes on 6/25, but the Banner Gateway support groups are closer to where I live). I've heard Scottdale's are open only to people who had their surgery done there, but again I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

I'm scheduled June 25! In the midst of my 2 week liquid diet presently and tired, but grateful that I am finally going to have this done!

    Pre-surgical liquid diet

I'm on day 8 of my pre-op liquid diet. My surgeon allows 4 Protein shakes (Bariatric Advantage) made with low fat 1% milk per day, plus sugar free Clear liquids. I'm not hungry all the time any more, but I am utterly exhausted. It surprises me how tired I feel because with the shakes I am getting 1000-1100 calories per day. I guess my body is ticked that it's not getting the larger amount of calories it's used to. Does this fatigue get better after surgery??

    Liquid Diet

I'm on day 7 of my pre-op diet. The hunger has lessened from the first few days, but I am totally exhausted. My coworkers have even mentioned that they will be glad when I am through with surgery so that I go back to my "happy" self. I am sleeping 8-9 hours/night but still feel tired and unmotivated all the time. I have lost just over 10 lbs in a week, but I would really like some energy. I am hoping this exhaustion doesn't last too long in the post-op period because I've honestly wondered if this is how I will feel forever, is WLS worth it?

    Submitted in AZ today

Today was the big day for me! My bariatric patient advocate submitted all my documents to my insurance company. She said it should take 2 weeks to hear back. Fingers crossed I get approved!!!!
  20. I have completed my 6 months of supervised diet and exercise this month. I had a sleep study early April and was just informed the results show I have mild sleep apnea--not enough to typically qualify for CPAP, but hopefully enough that my insurance considers it a comorbidity! My insurance requires a BMI of 40+ without comorbidities and 35+ with. I am sitting at 39.9, and have no comorbidities (before these results). My insurance lists sleep apnea as one of the qualifying comorbidities. I am hoping to submit to insurance within the next week and that this will help me get approved quickly!!!
  21. I have Meritain insurance in AZ and am in month 5 of a 6 month supervised diet. My BMI was just over 40 (41.1) at the beginning of my weight loss, but now I'm at 39. I'm freaking out that if my BMI isn't about 40 they won't approve me. Although my surgeon doesn't require a sleep study, I requested one through my PCP due to my chronic snoring, because if I have sleep apnea my BMI only has to be 35 or above. My weight has fluctuated throughout the 6 months of supervised weight loss and last month I was up 5 lbs from the month before due to stopping phentermine, but still down 6 overall. To be honest I haven't been rigorous with my weight loss and exercise efforts because the surgeon even advised me not to lose too much weight due to my insurance requirements (BMI 40+ without comorbidities, 35 with DM, HTN, sleep apnea, or severe muscoloskletal disease) Anyone else have this experience??? I don't want to have gone through all the steps only to get denied at the end, and my husband will never be on board with me going to Mexico...
  22. I'm still in the "pre" phase awaiting approval for a sleeve (hopefully later this week per my insurance co today!). I've been to my preoperative classes, have my lists of clear liquid, full liquid and soft/puréed foods and am wondering if anyone gets bored with their food choices? How do you change up your foods to avoid boredom? I'm a little worried because in my previous low carb diet attempts I have been successful by eating the exact same thing with very little variation. Seriously. I still cannot bring myself to eat spring mix with chicken breadth, cucumber and tomatoes, and I haven had it for 2 years! Anyone have recipe tips tricks or sites to look at? I realize there's not a whole lot to do with clear liquids. I guess I'm mostly concerned about where you go after the protein shakes and Greek yogurt??

I got approved by insurance today! I'm so excited! I just called my bariatric patient advocate to let her know. Hopefully I get a surgery date soon!
