Gaining Weight after one year post sleeve! PLEASE HELP!
addygirl posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Let me start off by saying that I'm always hungry and have been since 3 months out. I am currently one year post op but have been at a stand still for the last 6 months. Now I have gained an additional 10 pounds in 4 weeks. Is there a way to get back on track? I am afraid my stomach has stretched. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Gaining Weight after one year post sleeve! PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for this info! It makes me feel a whole lot better knowing my "new" stomach can't stretch. I seem to have gotten myself back into some bad habits like drinking a small 7.5 oz Coke a day, not getting my Water intake, not exercising like I should and so on. I think I will try a liquid diet for 3 days. Thanks for the help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My BMI is only 28.2 with surgery scheduled!

I am scheduled for surgery on April 6th for the sleeve. However, I am VERY NERVOUS! I am going the hiatal hernia route, but my BMI is only 28.2. I've considered canceling the surgery because I'm scared that my BMI is not high enough. I am going to Dr. Nick Nicholson. Anyone else have a similar situation? What do you recommend I do......should I go through with it or cancel? -

My total out of pocket would have been $6500 and that includes all visits for up to 2 years as well as reconstruction surgery. My insurance would have covered the rest. -

Yes "woo woo" you are correct. I have elected NOT to do the surgery, but if I did, then "Cleo's mom" I would only be responsible for $50 for the dietician. If any complications should arise from the sleeve, it would be completely covered through insurance. I have already done that check. However, now that I'm out $3000 for just having the EGD, I thought I'd ask if I could go ahead and do the hernia repair along with possibly another elective surgery like lipo. That way, I wouldn't feel like I totally wasted my money. -

THANK YOU "shavelic" and "woo woo" for your understanding in my situation. I don't know if I actually said this or not, but my mother was severely obese and has diabetes so her doctor gave her no choice but to have gastric bypass 7 years ago. My doctor has recently told me that I am at very high risk for becoming a diabetic. My question is: Why would I want to wait until it is too late IF I decided to do this surgery? My mom feels so much better about herself but she is still on all her Diabetic meds. I am heading in the same direction as my mom. AND even though I have tried every diet out there, I am going to give it one more try and see if I can do it. My surgery has officially been cancelled for now. Hopefully this will calm down certain people who seem to not know my situation. -

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. I think I will just try doing the pre-op and post-op diet to get me started and then gradually increase protein along with veggies and low carbs. Maybe I'll even find some good recipes to cook with that my family could also enjoy. -

Correction everyone, my BMI is 29. Just got back from my OBGYN and she let me know that I've gained 10 lbs since I last saw her 6 months ago. She is concerned with my cholesterol levels as well as my weight gain over the last 5 years. However, she wants me to try Weight Watchers before I go through with WLS. I've tried weight watchers before and it didn't work for me. I just seem to struggle with my weight and can't lose it. I'm worried about becoming a diabetic like my other family members. Anyone have a jump start diet they know of that would possibly work? I think I will try and see what I can do once again on my own for the next several months and if I can't do it, then I will opt back to the sleeve. I was just hoping to be a little smaller for swimsuit weather coming up. ???? -

Some are wondering why I would consider lap-band instead? Well, it is because a friend told me that her lap band was the best thing she had ever done. She said she could still go on a cruise and eat what she wanted by having the fluid taken out and then after the trip she could get it filled back. I didn't know that was an option and I still want to enjoy family vacations and holiday dinners. From what it sounds, I would not get to do these things if I got the sleeve. I guess I'm not mentally ready for it. I'd rather have a band from what others have told me so that way if it doesn't work for me, I can have it removed. Does this sound correct? -

I have yo-yo'ed back and forth with my weight for the last 10 years. The doctor said I would not qualify for the sleeve through insurance but I would Qualify for hiatal hernia surgery with insurance. He said that they will just do the sleeve while they are there. I am 50 lbs from my goal weight. However, my BMI is still below 30 and that worries me. I'd almost rather have lap band instead. -

Thank you everyone for your comments. It makes sense to me about not doing it with a lower BMI. However, I have struggled for years with my weight and even though on the charts I'm considered "overweight", I guess I should continue to try an alternate route other than WLS. Someone mentioned having lap band instead. Does anyone agree with this? -

The only health problem I have is that I'm at a high risk of becoming a diabetic like my mom. I have gained 30 lbs in 2 years and struggle to find ways to lose weight. My mom has gastric bypass 4 years ago because she couldn't lose weight due to being on insulin. I guess I'm just scared and nervous to have this surgery because I haven't been able to find any other people that have had it done with a low BMI like mine. The surgeon said that since I have a hiatal hernia then he could do it. Not sure what to do? -
Anyone March 24th? Dr. Nick Nicholson doing my surgery.
