I have a similar story after my band was fitted in Sept 2007 I had to wait 5 months for a fill which was unsuccessful due to the port turning 360 degrees. I had the port turned in June 2008 and when I came to have a fill weeks later the port had moved again although it was supposed to have been sewn to my rib. So I still have no restriction 16 months on. The surgeon said I needed a someone with more experience after 15 attempts to fill under Xray on one day.He discharged me that day leaving to sort the problem out. I contacted P.A.L.S who referred me to the Chief Exec with no satisfaction then the Complaints at my local PCT then my GP. Only after contacting ICAS the NHS arbitrator this week I have got things moving and have a appointment for next week.

This thing has been the worst thing i ever wasted money on

14 months ago I had my band fitted and 3 surgeries later I still haven`t been able to get a fill. Each time they try the port turns even though on my last op they stitched it secure. So you can imagine how I feel with no restriction luckily I didn`t have to pay for it as that would make me feel worse. -
O.M.G I must be getting fit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I go swimming 6 days a week and it certainly tones your body. The Country club is really lovely and being a pensioner and going off peak it only costs me £5 per week for all the facilities. Plus I have made lots of friends going there and can now swim 10 lengths but I need to up my speed. -
anyone experienced having a port turn 180 degrees. Then having a second op to turn it and still not able to have a fill under Xray. I have had my band 15 months and still not had a fill. I am so jealous of those who have lost loads. My consultant says I will have to see someone more experienced who could do a fill. Now I have to go through the proceedure of getting funding all over again.

Problems during fills, doctor keeps missing port.
christine8 replied to RosyPosy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That just sounds like me. I find it very uncomfortable when he tries to locate the port and he misses it. I have been waiting for some restriction since my op last Sept and then after a second op to reverse the port. I am worried that something has punctured. -
I have my next apppointment at the beginning of Sept but this is just a follow up. If I need a fill I hope I don`t need it under Xray again as that means another wait. I am off on holiday at the end of Sept and had hoped to have lost weight. I swim daily to tone myself up but I am struggling to diet.

I had my first fill yesterday and have no restriction at all and feel very disappointed. I was hoping he would have put more than 2ml in the band but he was cautious when I had it done under Xray and barium drink.
-
After having my port reversed and after a 10 month wait I had my 1st fill today. I had it under Xray and then a barium drink. I am sure the 2ml wasn`t enough as I don`t feel any different no restriction. I have to wait until the beginning of Sept for my next consultation and a 2nd fill. Luckily this is being done for free on the NHS in England.

what a fabulous weight loss I m so envious. I was banded Sept 07 and still not had my first fill. I had to wait until december to try and fill when they found the port was back to front. Had a op to reverse it and firstly I had a haematoma then my consultant missed the port and now I have to wait until July 29 to have a fill under Xray. This was all done at Liverpool on the NHS.

I had my band fitted last September and was called for my 1st fill in December when it was dicovered the port was back to front. I had to wait again for it to be turned and then 2 weeks after went for a fill only to discover I had a haematoma and couldn`t have my fill. Three weeks after I went for my 1st fill only for the Consultant to miss the port. Now its July and I have a date on the 29th to have a fill under Xray. I just feel like giving up especially when I hear of the large weight loss some people have who had their band after me. This is the NHS at Liverpool.

What to do until fill????
christine8 replied to singermama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday 3 weeks after my port reversal I should have had my 1st fill but unfortunately around the operation area a haematoma has formed and had to be drained. My next appointment is in 2 weeks and by then I hope I get my 1st fill. -
My port is FLIPPED!!!
christine8 replied to kristylyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port was fitted with the metal side on the outside and the soft part they inject into at the back making it impossible to fill. I have been into theatre and had it reversed. Yesterday 3 weeks later I went for a fill and still couldn`t have my 1st fill due to a haematoma around the operation area. Now it has been drained and hopefully at my appointment in 2 weeks it can be finally filled. -

My port was fitted back to front last Sept I had to wait until Dec for a fill which didn`t happen. I then had to have a xray to find out what had happened and last Thursday 30th May I had to wait all day as I was last on the list for it to be turned. I then had to stay in hospital overnight and still have no fill or restriction. I am just sick of the band. -
What to do until fill????

I was banded Sept 07 and was sent for my first fill Dec 07 but they couldn`t find the port. After xray Jan 08 it was discovered the port had been put in the wrong way. Last week 29 May I have had the port reversed but still no fill that will be in 3 weeks. All this time I can eat anything I haven`t gained but have been to the gym and swimming each day to try and maintain my weight. -
Waiting to get filled!
christine8 replied to kristylyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Sept last year and still not had a fill due to the port being fitted back to front. On the 29 May I go and have it fixed. I am eating like mad at the moment only for swimming and gym each day I would have put on a lot more weight. My husband is having a op to clear his veins on the same day and due to his other illnesses it is risky. I think the stress could be the cause of my comfort eating. -
Poll: NHS or Private

I had the best possible treatment on the NHS in a very clean hospital at the Abbey Sefton in Liverpool. My moan is the lack of follow up treatment. -
If your having the Band on the NHS don`t be too suprised if they cancel on the last minute because they have no beds. I was gutted when mine was cancelled 8 hours before the op because the surgeons wife had been taken into hospital. I had to wait a further 2 months then for my op. The op was pain free and I felt brilliant after but I did take vitamins & Q10 to build me up before the op.

Today I met a woman who was banded last Sept the same time as me. She has had 3 fills and lost a stone & half and I have had no fills as my port is back to front and yet I have lost more weight than her with willpower and going to the gym. It makes me wonder if the band is worth the bother. I didn`t pay for mine but she had to pay £6,500 for hers and is not happy with the band.

The consultant has told me my port is back to front and that is why he couldn`t give me my 1st fill. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what to they do to correct it. Is it that the surgeon has fitted wrongly or could it have twisted on its own. Although on the Xray it showed a straight tube from it and surely it would have shown a twist in it if it had turned round on its own.
-
Megstar did you have your band on the NHS. I was told I would have to wait 6 weeks before I could have the port turned but only if the PCT approved the funding. I just feel let down by the Aintree hospital. It was last September when I had the band fitted and had to wait until December for a fill which couldn`t be done. It was February before I had a Xray to see the port was turned. After all these months I still have no restriction.
-
My surgeon has just discovered my port is back to front and couldn`t give me a 1st fill. He said I would hear from him in the next 6 weeks. Has anyone experienced this and how was it corrected. Could it have been fitted wrongly as on the Xray the tube coming from it was straight and if it had turned on its own surely I would have seen a twist in that tube.
-
This week when I went for a first fill after 5months under Xray it was discovered the port is back to front and needs another op to correct this so I can have a fill. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this and what happens now.

When I needed my gall bladder out I was offered the band as it was supposed to be a simple procedure at the same time. I was funded by the NHS. Unfortunately my gall bladder was infected and the band had to be fitted in a 2nd op one month later. From me having the op a different company now do it and somehow I have been neglected during the changeover. I should have had my 1st fill in October and it was December after a lot of phoning from me they tried to do the fill and only this week I have been told the port is back to front.
-
when I went for my first fill under Xray this week it was discovered the port is back to front and means another op to correct it. I am so depressed and to make matters worse I was told this can only be done if the PCT fund it. What happens if they don`t am I stuck with a useless band and gone through surgery for nothing.

I am freaking out!! I need advice......
christine8 replied to findingme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a Xray today and after a few attempts to find the band and a few trying to fill which was most unconfortable it was discovered the port is back to front. I now have to go in hospital to have it put right. This means another 6 weeks delay. After nearly 6 months I still have no restriction and never had a fill.
