  1. In addition to recovering from surgery, now I think I broke my little toe tripping over my dog's bed!

Thanks emma4884, since there's no swelling, I'm hoping it's just sprained. Been following the first aid I found online. Yeah, I need to "lighten" up in more ways than one. Laughing at myself is kinda hard for me ;)

The PA said I probably did break it, but that I was doing exactly what could be done. I can't find anything but flip flops that are not painful

  2. When does one feel like a normal human again? Having difficulty getting the gas to dissipate even with walking.

Normal hits everyone at a different time. For me it was a couple of days after, when I started pureed food. I felt much better then and other than being tired I felt pretty good from that point on. I figure out after about 20-25lb loss that my BP meds was too much and once I split the dose my energy levels came up tremendously. hydrate and move for the gas :D

  3. Just got home from hospital yesterday afternoon. I never knew I would be so thankful for the ability to pass ga.s. Ugh, the bloating is awful. I know it wil "pass". I also understand how dehydration can happen, I have no desire to put anything in my mouth!

Congratulations on the surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery! Walk as much as you can, I know everyone says it but it really does work.

"pass gas" but you know it will "pass" LOL- that is a good one LOL sense of humor after surgery - lol, you'll do great - congrats and good luck kathy

  4. Not sure how recently you had the lumbar puncture, but if you have excruciating headaches when upright, it may be leaking. Sometimes the hole doesn't seal correctly and you leak spinal Fluid which leads to headache. I had to go to the ER for a "blood patch" which solved the problem immediately Hoping you find a solution and can begin healing. This is quite scary to read as I go in for surgery tomorrow

What's the story behind your profile name?

Invictus means "unconquered". There is a poem by William Ernest Henly by the same title that has gotten me through some discouraging times.

This is not a quote, but I found this picture online somewhere and love it!
  9. @@kashco I was fortunate that the custodians started cleaning/waxing in my hall, so it was the first one done. I just spent 2+ hours over there and got half of my boxes down and unpacked. They were all library books, so I got them sorted accordingly. It wiped me out. I was hoping to do more, but will have to go back tomorrow. Gonna have to focus on housework next week in the evenings so there is some sense of order around the house for surgery. Still anxiously waiting for insurance to make up their mind! Do they know how torturous this is?
  10. I have 10 days til my surgery. I too am a teacher. I went over to set up the furniture in my classroom yesterday. Got an early start due to the lifting restrictions after surgery. Keeping busy helps take my mind off food. I am fortunate that my preop diet is very low carb, not strictly liquids. Next week, I will probably try to do more shakes though because the protein sources I am eating are high in fat . Next week I am booked with preop appointments and workshops. Worried about the desire to snack during the workshops.
  11. @@nisey2800 the diet is going pretty well. Trying to stay busy or asleep. Less temptation to snack in either case
  12. Day 1 pre-op diet for me too. My main focus is to keep carbs under 30 grams. My husband fixed some ground turkey pasta sauce. He seasoned the heck out of it! I sautéed some zucchini noodles for me.
  13. About to finish day 1 of preop diet. Will need to eat some more protein in a bit. Not too bad, but I know it's going to take focus and determination!

Keep your eye on the prize. You can make it. I am also pre-op. I find a snack of low fat string cheese or a bit of chicken helps me a lot, Best of the different things I have tried. Good luck.

    Funky work out clothes...

Febreeze laundry refresher. My mom had to wash my basketball clothes with some vinegar when I was in high school.

    Mashed potatoes!

My post-op plan mentions instant potatoes as well. I was wondering what was wrong with real ones??

    Aetna 2015 Weight Requirements

All my "stuff" was submitted yesterday. Advocate said they run about two weeks for approval in her experience. Here's hoping its sooner! Starting preop diet Monday as surgeon gave me a date under the assumption I would be approved.
  17. Insurance required a 90 monitored nutrition program. The only stipulation was that I not gain anything. I haven't, but I also haven't lost anything. The surgeon didn't require any loss either. I am concerned that this may be an issue with approval as I was "non-compliant" with the nutritionists recommendations. I used the time to deal with my bingeing issues and emotional eating, which have improved greatly, but I was not focused strongly on losing. I knew my life with food was going to change greatly with the surgery and didn't want to I've things up quite yet. Basically, I am asking if anyone thinks this will keep me from getting approved. I have fulfilled all the other requirements.
  18. Ok, so I worried for nothing. Turns out I lost 10 pounds this month. Not sure how other than cutting down portion sizes and focusing on protein. So, that was the last step. Now my patient advocate should be submitting to insurance tomorrow. Hoping for a speedy turn around as I have a tentative surgery date for the 27th!
  19. I'm just envisioning the nutritionists report stating something about not following her recommendations etc. just starting to worry about approval. Last weigh in Monday, then submit for approval. I agree with your thinking. Just assuming the worst from insurance

    Products to make life easier!

I bought a veggie spiralizer to make veggie noodles. I love pasta and sauce. Zucchini "noodles" will never taste like pasta, but it is a decent compromise and easier to fix than boiling and draining pasta .

  22. @@VSGAnn2014 Ann, thank you for your reply. I know this is what I must do to have a better life. Still curious as to what life will be like years down the road. Regardless if I have to count every calorie for the rest of my life, it has to be better than right now! I think I am just getting nervous about the waiting game and insurance hoops . Trying to think that next year, the ending of the school year should not be so exhausting and daunting!

    approved after 2 denials!

@@KSTUZ I too have Aetna. I am curious as to why they denied you. I'm almost done fulfilling their requirements and am worried about denial
  24. I have bern wondering about what the future will be like after WLS. In 10-15 years, what will life be like? I think I am questioning my decision because I hate change, it's easier to stay fat. But then I am embarrassed at how out of shape I am and what a poor example I am for my students. I have aches and pains that can only be from carrying 150 extra pounds. The final straw is seeing my mom and dealing with her health issues and keeping track of the 15 prescriptions she is on as a result of her obesity. Not sure if this is the right forum for this post. I know the weeks leading up to and right after surgery are going to be challenging to say the least, but for loooong term life and health, is it worth it?
