TLC's MY 600-LB LIFE Casting Call for Season 7!
sgc replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is entertainment. That's what TLC does as a business. In exchange for entertaining others, you get a free life savings surgery that many doctors aren't willing to do. This entertainment has saved the lives of everyone who has appeared on the show, plus many others who were inspired to get it after watching. The entertainment is what subsidizes the cost of the surgery. -
TLC's MY 600-LB LIFE Casting Call for Season 7!
sgc replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That's why the $30,000 surgery is free. Honestly it was after watching this show that I decided to get surgery so I don't consider it a freak show. -
I never thought to eat an Ostrich. I wonder what other tasty animals I'm missing out on?
-
Because it taste better. A little extra virgin olive oil is good for you. 280 pounds lost and it has helped my weight loss to no end.

I think I have down what I need to ask. The first one's billing is confusing me. I'll get the other quotes and contact number one and get the full price without insurance so I know what the worst it would be. When these doctors start showing me pictures, I have no idea what to look for. As long as there is no hideous disfigurement, they all look fine to me. Doctor #3 has a lot of his pics online. Everything seems good? https://www.realself.com/find/Michigan/Detroit/Plastic-Surgeon/Andrew-Lofman#reviews

I looked up a circumferential adominalplasty and that seems exactly what I need. The first doctor seems to be writing up the adominalplasty as a panniculectomy to charge insurance. She claims insurance only covers the skin that is hanging over the pubic area. Her quote seems complicated so I'm leaning towards number 3. I have two more appointments yet so I'll see. Number 3 gets great reviews but they seem mostly breast work. It seems hard to find a doctor with extensive experience working on weight loss people.

I have no trouble. I just bread them with an egg and some breadcrumbs and use some evoo. I used to get gerd and though I had IBS but since I got the sleeve I have experienced none of those symptoms.

I like chicken tenderloins. They are already cut like chicken fingers so I just throw on a little breading and fry them up in a little extra virgin olive oil. Sam's Club sells some frozen breaded shrimp that's easy to make. One serving is only 130 calories and one and a half servings is about all I can eat.

I called doctor #1 to get more clarification on the price. They checked with my insurance and my out of pocket would be $193. That puts her at $11,700 which is the same as doctor #3. I contacted my insurance, they say I would pay the deductible of $400 and it would need to be a medical necessity. I got two different numbers but not a big difference. I'm concerned my insurance won't cover it and say it's cosmetic. I may go with doctor #3 since his price didn't involve insurance at all. I still have two more appointments lines up.

I may have this maintenance thing down. Stuck on 192 for three straight weeks. My doctor estimates I have anywhere from 20 to 30 pounds of excessive skin and fat that can be removed so my weight is more like 160-170 and she thinks I should probably gain a couple pounds. I can't fathom trying to gain and I seem to get disappointed now when I don't lose. I feel like I have nothing to work towards now. Every week it was trying to get under 350, then 300, then 250 and so on. It's almost an empty feeling now to be at a normal healthy weight.

For fun, please help! Clothing Size vs. BMI?
sgc replied to Berry78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wear a size 32 pant and have a 26 BMI. I have a lot of excess skin around my waist that hangs so I wear my pants a little bit lower than they should be. With all the skin removed, I would probably be a 23-24 BMI with the same pant size but higher up. -
Doctor #1 is talking about doing a panniculectomy, abdonimalplasty, and lower trunk lift. Doctor #3 says a circumferential abdominalplasty. I'm trying to determine what the difference is? It seems like the former is more work and would get my backside more so I amy go with number 1. The 3rd doctor didn't mention much about the butt being fixed.

I'm thinking more on this and I see people say they paid around $10,000 for a body lift in Mexico. Am I missing something? If this doctor is only charging $11,000 in the US, am I getting less? By the time I travel to Mexico, it would actually cost more. I also wonder why doctor number two was $23,000?

How does one choose a plastic surgeon outside of price? This last one I went to seems highly regarded and seems to be regarded as on the top ones in my area but it seems most of his reviews are about breast surgeries. Scaring isn't the biggest concern for me. I just want a normal shape and to be able to get rid of this intertube around me. It would be nice to wear a pair of pants at my waist and by proper fitting shirts.

Had a third consultation. He suggested a circumferential adominalplasty. It seems like that would take out some of the intertube I have going on and raise my ass a little. He quoted $11,700. He seems to be the lead. The first doctor quoted $11,500 but insurance was covering part and with my out of pocket would be more like $13,500. I have one more appointment in August. Doctor number two for $23,000 was just crazy. This doctor I just saw also does the surgery in a hospital and that price included an overnight stay.

I wouldn't necessarily say that is shallow. If a guy asks you out for dinner and you don't eat, it may come off as you being uninterested.

The first doctor I went to was the one referred by my bariatric surgeon. She works with a lot of his patients so this is her thing. She even attends some of his support groups for bariatric patients. I would like to get my chest and arms done but she said that would be too much for one surgery. That would also be a lot of money so I'll focus on my middle section for now. What do you mean by present condition? No chest. It sounded like in their office they must have a surgery center. I've had one other quote so far. This doctor doesn't even accept insurance. The other doctor I went to accepts insurance but my insurance only pays for part. I got a quote of $11,500 doing lower body lift with tummy tuck. This doctor works in a hospital too. I have a few more consultations. Doing an 8 hour surgery outside of s hospital is concerning to me. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk

Had a consultation with another doctor. This one didn't accept insurance at all so the cos was $23,000. It was a pretty swanky place so it seemed more geared to wealthy people than a huckleberry like me. The surgery would be 8 hours and done in the office and I would go home the same day. Does this seem right?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a royal body lift?

Why does the weight loss phase end?
sgc replied to onmyway11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 13 months out and still losing weight even though I'm trying to stop. I think a lot of people hit their goal weights within 9-12 months so naturally they go into more of a maintenance. You have to stop losing weight at some point. Your weight isn't going to drop to zero. -
I upped my calorie intake to slow my weight loss and I ended up losing 5 pounds this week. I steeped on and off the scale several times and it read the exact same number. I then waited an hour, got back on, and I lost another .8 pounds. Maintaining seems kind of hard.

I can't even get a date, much less intimacy. However, I have decided to get plastic surgery. The skin on my back is so bad it's pulling on my back and causing pain. I figure I might as well wait until I'm a finished product so I'm not even trying right now. I imagine skin will be a hang up. When you take off your clothes and you instantly deflate, it is like you're hiding something.
-
For me it's not about not being able to get more calories in, but just not wanting to. I have fallen in a cycle where I may only eat 500 calories in one day and then let loose on Saturday. My tests all come back good though and my doctors doesn't have me on any vitamins so I guess it's working.

Demographics - Opinions - Weighing Options (no pun intended)
sgc replied to P-Diddy's topic in The Guys’ Room
I weighed 470 pounds and had a BMI over 63. At the time of the surgery, I weighed 389 with a BMI of 52. Currently weigh 198 with a BMI of 26. (I don't like this website rounds up in my profile )
