Before and After Pics
SaraJay425 replied to Roserie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here are some side by side before and after from before surgery and 2 months after. The picture in the jean shorts is 3 months after and the picture in striped sleeveless blouse is 3 1/2 months after surgery. I have went from 303 lbs to 244 lbs since March 17th. I have fallen off good eating habits and the gym but getting back into it. Hope this is motivating. It's hard at times but soooo worth it!!!! -
I am in Tampa FL and wanted to know if there was any sleevers around my age local or had the sleeve done around my age. I am almost 3 weeks post op Margery was 3/17/15. I was 303 DOS last weigh in Monday 3/30 I was 286.

Started 4 week pre-op liquid diet today!
SaraJay425 replied to butterfly23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow my diet wasn't liquids until the day before. It was just replaced to meals with protein shakes and the third meal had to be low carb similar to an Atkins diet meal. Now post op my surgeon hd me on a full liquid diet for 17 days and then the puree I am on until the 17th wich is a little over two weeks. I then move to the next phase on day 45 so he hs more of a stricter post op then pre op. However every doctor has its own specifics and I think it does also have to do with the patient as well. One thing that kept me going through the liquid phase was Apple juice no sugar added 100% juice. I hd dry mouth for the first 2 weeks post op even plain water wouldn't quench my thirst. I didn't drink apple juice hardly before surgery but I did it half n half mixed the apple juice with water and it was the most delicious thing ever and it was the only thing that quenched my thirst. Weird but it worked. Also sugar free hello is on the liquid diet I hd and sugar free Italian ice that was good for a few days as well. I think what was the hardest is when I found something I like I drank that for days straight n then I was sick of it doing something different through out the day helps. -
Did anyone NOT tell their job about surgery?
SaraJay425 replied to VGB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my boss after surgery. He's a jerk and I told him bc I was nauseous in the mornings and was late a few times. I was telling him so he could fully understand why I was having a tardiness issue he didn't even thank me or tell me he was appreciative of me including him. I have FMLA so I didn't have to tell him jack. I have told a few coworkers who are so supportive. I told another manager and she is very supportive as well. If people ask why I was out or if everything is ok I am more open to telling people now. I wasn't at first and I was embarrassed and so ashamed but now honestly this is the best thing I could have done for myself and to be getting back healthy making permanent healthy changes to my diet and actually exercising I am almost proud to tell people. ALMOST and at the end of the day it's what I want and I'm learning to not care about other people. -
Bariatric Vitamins
SaraJay425 replied to burneyatchley101213's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I take calcium with vitamin d b12 one a day with iron and zinc I use bariatric advantage for one a day and calcium. B12 I just got over the counter sublingual tablets cherry flavored. I also did a woman's one a day liquid from grocery store pomegranate flavor and that was ok taste wise too. -
Difficult getting enough calories in
SaraJay425 replied to tripletsmom3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My first week I didn't want anything. Lol the second week I struggled bc I was so head hungry. I just started the puree diet. Bariatric advantage has a vegetable soup powder and it's great I added some seasoning to it but you mix it with water and that's how I survived the last week before puréed foods. I couldn't do yogurt and was so sick of jello and pudding. My doctor told me it's almost impossible To get down the 60 g of protein the first couple weeks. I am now doing better. Also bariatric advantage has protein shakes. The orange taste like an orange cream sickle the iced latte taste like a real coffee. I didn't find these until my 2nd week and wish I knew from the start. Also vitamin shoppe and GNC has isopure. Flavored liquid protein. I add crystal light packet to it but it's not bad at all. -
Need recommendations for chewable vitamins!
SaraJay425 replied to losing_the_band's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had trouble finding chewable Vitamins. I ordered through bariatric advantage. The calcium Fruit chews are like starbursts. The one a day chew is ok not as bad as some. I also got the vegetable soup powder it's amazing In the liquid and puréed stage and had lots of protein. -
I am Happy to say I went to my two week check up. My highest was 316 day of surgery 303 and Monday 3/30 I was 286!!! It has been a little rough for me. I'm going to tour a gym Thursday hopefully start some Zumba classes next week. I am wondering if any suggestions for the puréed diet. I tried tuna salad pre surgery I LOVED IT and now my stomach isn't there. I have back some broccoli cheddar soup blended and thinned and Apple sauce protein shake and chili for 2m at work. It's my first day back. I have everything in 4 oz cups n not filled to the tip top. I know liquids and protein are key. Any suggestions?!?!

Pureed diet HELP!
SaraJay425 replied to SaraJay425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this might sound silly. What's a ricotta bake?? Sour cream was ok?? I'm Going to get some avocados I love those and didn't think of it. My surgeon is very very strict. It's hard bc I asked him about beans and mashed potatoes and recommended against it. He said its on the list but I would say no. So asking him For input is a little difficult and gets to be frustrating. I follow his orders as much as possible but I also do a lot of research on my Own for guidance. Any suggestions on chili?? I know it's not fully puréed but it goes down quite easy. -

I have my first day back to work tomorrow I'm really nervous I have lost 30 pounds total about 19 pounds since surgery so I wonder if people are going to notice and it's always hard to come back to work after being out because people want to know what happened where did you go what did you have done and I'm really struggling with the answer to give them even though I don't owe them an answer at all it's really tough being so young and having issues that a lot of young people have and don't deal with or older people are dealing with in the way we are having the weight-loss surgery. I'm just nervous and kind of apprehensive I was talking to my mom earlier tonight and I probably should have this question way before have a surgery but would like to young we should've done something else only being 25 just something I've been thinking about looking at other 20 some-year-olds and they're really healthy and in shape or they don't even know they can get weight-loss surgery. I guess I'm just venting on here don't have a lot of people to talk to about this I did find that the few people I did tell family members and friends were very supportive however I don't feel comfortable going out or eating with them or exercising with them or the above I kind of just been going and experiencing things by myself -
Before surgery I was a huge seltzer water club soda drinker. It's been not even 2 weeks since surgery and my mouth literally waters when I see it. I want it so bad. All my paperwork says no carbonated beverages and long term to avoid it. Has anyone tried carbonated beverages?? How soon after surgery? I've asked my surgeon he just says no. I go in Monday and will ask him more specifically no permanently or just right now.

Carbonated beverages
SaraJay425 replied to SaraJay425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for everyone's advise and suggestions. I am a cherry coke person but have adapted. I drink Canada Dry raspberry seltzer water and the fizz is what kills my craving for cherry coke. I don't drink pop often it's the seltzer water that is hard for me to give up. I go to surgeon 2m and will ask again about it lol. My mom had the full gastric bypass 7 years ago and eats and drinks what she wants. It's portioned controlled of course but she doesn't have trouble with salads fried foods ect carbonated beverages she lost over 140 lbs and kept it off so I do think with time proper proportions and exercise after surgery down the line fast food or not recommended food is ok in moderation. I agree. I really try to stay away from pop period. The seltzer water really helps the cravings. -

Thanks everyone!!! To know its a possibility in the future makes me happy. I figure it makes you full which is why they tell you NO at first. Hopefully Monday I go into the soft food stage. I'm Jewish and tuna salad and egg salad I lived on pre surgery so I will at least feel somewhat normal and might not miss the fizz but I sure love the fizz in my drinks lol -

OFFICIAL: March 25th Surgery Date
SaraJay425 replied to ladycook9713's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought my fav throw blanket and pillow it really helped to have things from home for comfort. I also recommend some type of slippers or house shoes and a bathrobe. I think those are most important. Because they want you to walk around and it makes it a lot easier. I brought toiletries and did not use them. I did bring a comfy outfit to wear home and recommend a pillow for the car ride I have a lot of speed bumps in my neighborhood and they were awful. I also had my hair French braided morning of surgery and then didn't have to worry about it for a couple days. (My hair is down to my waist so it's a job in itself) -
I didn't have throat pain or belly button pain. The whole process hasn't been physically painful for me. I would contact your doctor if the pain doesn't get better or is too much. Did he give you any pain meds for home??

SaraJay425 replied to Seamster44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 25 and a week out. I have only told a handful of people. It was embarrassing for me being so young and needing WLS. I have found the people I have told to be very supportive. I am worried about adapting back into my social life as well. I am a social butterfly and went out for dinner and drinks often. I don't know how that is going to fit into my new lifestyle. It's good to have a good support team. Good luck. -
I am loving seeing the before and after pics as I am just a little less then a week post op. I am Scared of losing too much too fast and having so much loose skin. I am Only 25 and want to not only be healthy but feel Good about myself. Everyone I said just depends on age and amount of exercise and genetics all that but just wondering of ppl farther post op how this is for them and is it a lot ect.

OFFICIAL: March 25th Surgery Date
SaraJay425 replied to ladycook9713's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on the 17th. I was the same way. Had fears of not waking up and having complications. The first time I saw my anesthesiologist I asked did it go ok?? Lol and he wasn't even my surgeon. I expected to be in so much pain and I was shocked. Pain wasn't bad and actually bearable. I don't know if it helped to expect the worse with pain and then have it be better then expected. A lady who had the surgery told me she felt Like had been ran over by a truck I was so scared it's not anywhere near that. I also was scared of complications and I did everything my doctor told Me and it paid off because I had zero complications. After getting to the hospital 2 hours early and Going from intake To pre op and waiting it was nice when my surgeon came to say hi I went into the operating room and then it was over. I woke up and it was done. They have me Morphine at first for pain I did have trouble with it so they switched and I only needed it for the day of after that extra strength liquid Tylenol did the job. It's normal to be nervous but honestly after being at the hospital for an hour and having about 20 ppl ask me my name bday and what surgery I was having I was like ok just cut me already lol good luck!!!! -
Yes. A lot of people told Me You won't be hungry that's what makes its easy. And I'm Not like hungry and starving but I crave regular foods like chicken and fish etc I am nervous about the purée weeks because of the texture.
