    Pre op liquid diet

My program was 2 weeks as well! The first couple of days are tough, but then I was SO surprised. I didn't know where my hunger went. It was non-existent. Also, it helps to understand why the diet is important. I'm sure you have heard that it makes surgery technically easier for your team. It also reduces complications with your liver!

    Week 3 of post op

@@jennylew, thanks for sharing! I'm sure someone on here will benefit. Such a bummer that you had a slight set back. I hope things get better and better every day! P.S. I had surgery on August 6th!

    4 Weeks Post-Op

@@FrankinTexas, I know what you mean about the constipation! I'm almost 3 weeks post surgery and I put benefiber in my 2-3 protein shakes. I also went and grabbed the Costco version of miralax as well. Great to hear things are going well for you!!

    Alternatives to Omeprazole?

Thanks everyone! I asked my PA to change the script to Pantoprazole!
  7. Does anyone take a prescription medication that is similar to omeprazole? My insurance won't cover it, so I'm buying OTC. This is fine, but I'd prefer to have a Rx that would be covered since I hit my deductible. Thanks for any advice!

    Approved!

Congrats! Isn't that the best feeling? I didn't call because I was at work, but I like Aetna's chat feature through the Aetna Navigator portal. That's one way I found out! I found it easier than calling.
  9. @@zackly I think I had a smooth recovery time! I was almost sent home the day after surgery, but asked to stay due to going home alone (I'm a nervous nelly). The gas pain was the worst for me, and made it challenging to drink much. The left incision hurt the most, but I tried to use my arms to boost me around in the hospital bed. I was on morphine via IV, and then liquid oxycodone. I weaned off that and only used a little liquid tylenol for the 3rd day after. Good luck with your surgery!!

Only 11 lbs! ???? and constipation

@@newnewme4, I've had around 12 pounds as well and I feel like I've cut back my eating and that the weight should be pouring off. I know I need to bump up my water intake as I'm usually hitting around 40oz. Let's hope our bodies are trying to figure out what the heck is going on! Hang in there!

    Anyone thrown your scale away?

This topic is perfect timing for me. I feel like I'm a bit too obsessive right now - 2 weeks out. I'm thinking I'll ask my provider if I can weigh in at my visits for the first 5-6 months. I figure if I'm tracking what I'm eating and exercising then I know what changes to make. My RD from a couple years back was always about "how do your close fit?" I can see it going both ways, but I don't want to be obsessive either!

Shortness of breath after Gastric Bypass?

@@violetroyalty Good to get it checked out. I hope she is ok! I had a weird sensation too, but I thought I was just being overly anxious. Mine felt like I could "hear" my heartbeat more than usual and after the stairs I had a bit of SOB. I feel fine now 13 days out, but that first week it was different. Let us know if your friend is ok!
  15. @@tiggerbug I'm 13 days out now and doing well. My program has us start with pureed food right away. Most days I'm 3 shakes and 2 pureed meals between 1-2oz. I have my NUT follow up on Monday, so hopefully I'll find out if I'm on track. Still struggling with the water intake. I didn't think it would be this challenging - I'm usually getting around 40oz a day including shake liquid in that total. How are you and your son doing??!
  16. Learning how to cook (again). 10 days out from RNY.

Yes, isn't that the truth! I always make a protein and vegetable. I think my family misses their starches. Every once in a while (once or twice a month) I will make a potato or rice for them. I take a bite or two which satisfies me and I am done for a couple weeks. I figure it is healthier for them too!

Oh, and I steer clear of pasta completely. It's a trigger food for me.

I haven't ventured into veggies yet, but I meet with the NUT on Monday! I agree about the pasta (and bread for me too). It's a weird kind of cooking right now, my menu is: refried beans w/mild salsa, cottage cheese, meatless speghetti sauce with mozarella and/or chicken. I frozen them into ice cubes!

    ? About clearances

I'm probably odd, but I didn't have any pre-op testing. I am 27, and didn't have co-morbidities so the surgeon and team felt like I could proceed without anything. Just wanted to share so you didn't feel like every single person has pre-op testing. My process was: Consult with the surgeon 2 NUT visits 1 Psych Eval 1 readiness visit with PA 4 Educational Classes (3 hrs ea) H&P with the surgeon 1 week prior

Few hours one day post op.

I was/am worried about this as well. I had a cousin pass away from a pulmonary embolism (not related to any surgery). Do you wear sequential compression devices or "leg puffers" as I call them? Personally, I tried to get up when I felt up to it, and also had Lovenox injections once daily. I was also annoyingly insistent about calling to put the SCDs back on me! Let you RN/Doctor know of your concern too, they are the best to guide you! I think often times it depends on your risk factors on what preventative actions they take.
  22. @@tiggerbug Hang in there! You're almost there. Just remember your anxious feelings are normal! Best of luck!

What do folks think of the Roadside Lemonade flavor? I thought had a little bit of a funny taste. I mixed with 10oz water. Maybe I should have added lemonade crystal light..
