  1. One thing I have learned in this process is that every day gets better and everyday is different. Dont give up.
  2. thanks for the advice. I have my first post op appointment next week, but not supposed to see the Nut till week 4. I am at a little disadvantage with my current NUT. I was scheduled with another hospita/surgeon but had and ovary issue that forced me to have the ovary out. My GYN DR and WLS DR were not with the same hospital. My GYN Dr talked with the WLS Dr at his hospital and they agreed to to the surgery together. I figured one surgery was better than two so I was rushed trough the new WLS program. So much different than the one I went through first. I had one 20 min session with the first NUT, The second I only went through the last nutrition class (they have 4) I just dont have that relationship with the new NUT yet, but will have to bring it up with the surgeon when I go next week. thanks

    Food network

great idea. I am 9 days out and I am constantly watching food network. I thought I was weird. My Dad had throat cancer and for a year couldn't eat anything. He did the same thing. I used to ask him all the time, Why, isn't that torture? He loved it. And now I get it. I cant eat much and even watching it doesn't make me want to eat, but it is oddly comforting. At least most of the new shows are showing lighter fare for the new year so I have gotten some ideas for when I can start eating food again.
  4. Should I be concerned that I am 9 days post op and have yet to have a BM at all? Just starting full liquids. I have no pain at all which is why I wasn't worried, but now I am thinking I should be.

Looking forward to the next phase..

I can totally relate. I am only 5 days out and everything is so sweet. Only thing I can have this week that is not sweet is broth and just the smell of it makes me sick. All the things that get added next week, yougart, pudding, ect are sweet too. I never liked cream of wheat, but I bought some today to try next week since it is not sweet (that I know of) Trying to make it to week 3 when I can add somethings that are savory/salty. Pre-surgery I liked sweets as much as the next person, but would always prefer food to sweets so week and half will be hard, but 2 weeks will be over before we know it.

    sleeved on 12/29

thanks for the encouragement. After taking the meds and switching to a new Protein powder, I was able to do an 8oz protein shake with no problems. Took me almost an hour, but I felt pretty good. Each day gets better and better.
  7. I was sleeved on the 29th so I am only 4 days out. I have not had an easy time. I also had my right ovary taken out so that may explain why I have had some issues. I just haven't been able to drink enough. The first three days the back pain was horrible. Surgeon said it was from the air in the abdomen. Nothing really to do but walk to release it. I walked as much as possible. In those three days I got done about 16oz of Water, 8 oz of Protein shake and half a Popsicle. I haven’t been sleeping much, 2 hour intervals. I get up and walk for 10 - 15 min, take a few sips of water and back to bed. Last night when I got up I wasn’t feeling much pain and able to drink a little more. Throughout the night I was able to drink 8 oz of water. I thought I was turning a corner. I made a Protein Shake and started to drink that this morning. Took me about 40 min to do 4 oz and I have been nauseous ever since. I am still sipping water, but still haven’t gotten more 4 oz in. Thankfully my doctor gave me a script for anti nausea medicine that I just sent my son to fill. Hopefully it will help. I also have two other protein powders to try. Anyone else having same issue? What have you done to still get the protein in each day?

    Nausea

I am 4 days post op and having the same issue with the nausea. I just started taking Zofran today, and that helped a lot. Was able to get a whole Protein shake in today. Still way under what I need to be at, but everyday seems to be better than the last. Hoping will get to the point that I don't need the meds anymore. I don't vomit either, just hate that feeling. Couldn't imagine having to deal with that forever. Hope you get better as the days go on.
  9. Everything was going to easy when I started this journey. Found a great doctor, people were so supportive, work told me to take all the time I needed, even the two week diet wasnt as bad as I was expecting it to. Was scheduled for surgery on 11/2 and everything was great, until I woke up and the doctor told me they didnt do the surgery. there was mass on my right ovary All the planning and work for this surgery and now I would have to put it off for who knows how long. I tried not to let my disappointment about the missed surgery deter me. Finding this mass is way more important. Being thin wont make any difference if I am not healthy. That is the main reason I started this process, being healthy. So I made the appointment to see a gyn oncologist and move on to the next steps. Thankfully all test have come back and it is not cancerous. But due to the size, I have to have the ovary removed. Thankfully it is just the one and I dont have to have a full hysterectomy. I am happy that this is something I can take care over and hopefully wont have to worry about again. But I couldnt help thinking about the WLS and how that would be have to be put off for 6 months to year. Because I was already under for the first surgery and they made the incsions, I was out of work for week and now another 2 weeks for this new surgery, I figured I would have to put off WLS till middle or end of next year. That thought depressed me. So I asked my gyn doctor if there was any chance that we could do both surgeries at the same time. Because I was doing my WLS surgery at another hospital, I would have to switch doctors. That sucked but one surgery was worth it. I had my records moved to the new doctor and he and my gyn doctor have discussed it and baring any surprises when they go in, they have agreed to do the surgeries at the same time. I am so excited. The new WLS doctor has been so nice fitting me in ASAP and getting everything done before the end of the year. The ovary needs to come ASAP and I dont want to have to do my deductible again, so they have been fast tracking me through their program. Yesterday I got the news I have been waiting for. Both doctors are able to do my surgery on 12/29. I am so excited to finally get this done.
  10. I was scheduled for surgery this morning and everything seemed to going great. Other than one day early in my 2 week liquid diet, I was perfect. All of my pre-addmission testing came back great. When I work up from the surgery though, my doctor told me they had to abort the surgery because when they went in they found a mass on my ovary. With all the drugs in my system all I could say was ok. Seems so stupid now, but I asked no questions. Now 12 hours later and no more drugs in my system I have a ton, but they sent me home. On one hand I am so dissappointed my weight loss journey was put on hold but on the other hand I am extremely thankful that this was caught since I had not one system. Another twist of good luck is my mom is a maternity nurse so she is pulling some strings to get me seen ASAP to see what the mass is. Hopefully it is just a cyst and I can get it fixed and re-schedule my surgery.
  11. That's where I had mine! Which surgeon is doing yours? Dallal did mine. I was very happy with the care I got at Einstein, and the hospital rooms are really nice. My mom flew out for my surgery; she's an RN and was impressed with it. Dr Trang is doing mine. At first I was going to Dr Soriano but he left the practice. I wouldve had to wait a month to see Dallal before they would even schedule my surgery so I chose Dr Trang. He is great. 4 more days to go before surgery.

  13. I am having trouble getting enough liquids in each day. I am on week 2 of my pre op diet and even though I am mainly on a liquid diet (i am allowed vegetables) i am still not drinking enough. I had my pre-admission testing the other day and they had a hard time getting blood because I wasnt hydrated enough. This has always been a problem for me. When I started this 6 months ago, I gave up soda and all other sugar drinks. But even then I would nurse a 20oz pepsi most of the day, half a bottle of Water before dinner, then a glass of ice tea with dinner that would last until bed. Even being on the liquid diet I am just barely getting in 3 bottles of water and 3 shakes a day. I prefer plain water to any flavor or crystal light. It is't really what I drink, I just dont drink enough. the past week I have been chugging the water when I realize it has been hours since I have had any. I am worried about after surgery and the chugging not being an option. I dont want to get dehydrated, ANy one else have this issue?

  17. I am scheduled for November 2nd as well. Started my 2 week diet this past Monday. I am supposed to do 4-6 shakes a day (8oz), then no limits on SF Jello, SF popsicles, fat free broth and most vegetables. For the most part it has not been bad. Night time is the worst. I have two kids I have to cook for and I have to pick my one son up from work between 11 and midnight, so going to bed early isnt an option for me. I have had a few slips, (a couple bites is all) Any ideas on the late night cravings? Also having trouble just drinking enough. Im lucky to get 3 shakes and 2 bottles of Water down. Never drank much before this. Even on good days I can do 3 shakes and 3 bottles of water. Tonight though I had a major slip. I had to chaperone my 13 year old neices birthday party. Junk food galore, but did stay away from all of the sweets, and limited myself to one piece of pizza and 2 wings. It was great to eat some real food in the moment, but my stomache didnt agree with all that fat after eating so well for 6 days. Will be super strict for next 9 days, all I can do at this point. Trying not to feel to guilty about it.

    Food funerals

I just got my date, November 2, and I have a few places on my list to hit before than. I never thought about it being a sign of not being ready, I thought it was pretty normal. Once i let the people who know about the surgery know my date, one of the first things to come up was where we wanted to go one last time before my two week diet start. Not that I will overindulge until then, and most places I will be able to go to again. Already made reservations for the local Brazilian steak house for the weekend before the preop diet start. That is one place I may just over indulge in since there wont be any point in going back after surgery.
