Extreme Pain in the Roof of your Mouth with first meal
Justin posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Every now and then I get an extreme pain from the roof of my mouth when I start a meal. It feels like its being pulled out or blistering up from time to time. It doesn't always happen. Sometimes it feels like it triggers with sweet items, not sure though. It goes away and doesn't return for that meal. Happens once or so a week. Maybe more. This started when I got the band. Anyone else getting this? -
Allergic To Protein Shakes...can I Just Drink Milk?
Justin posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have quite a few food allergies (raw fruit / vegetables, nuts, shellfish). I found that I'm allergic to protein products (most bars, and protein shakes). Is there anything else you guys can recommend? Milk perhaps? -
I had my band installed December 31st 2007 (Hell of a New Years Resolution). Back then I weighed 300lbs. Over the next year and a half I was down to 190. It wasn't easy. I never went to any support groups and the rapid loss wreaked havoc on my hormones making me a bit unstable. My surgeon was pleased to see someone in their late 20s with a band thinking I will be healthy and have almost no issues. Sometimes I worry at night. Trying to sleep I find myself terrified of erosion. Before I was terrified of heart trouble from being overweight. But I feel like I can't stop worrying. During the day, I maintain a distracted life at work. Lately my hours have been 60-90 hour weeks with work provided meals. Due to this I had my band loosened by 1cc last August. I can now eat anything without much trouble. My appetite is strong and unforgiving. My metabolism didn't handle it too well and I'm 20lbs heavier today. I had 0.5ccs added last week, but I can still eat mostly anything. I'd like to say I was a model bandster, but I'm not. Not even close. Once at my comfortable weight, I found my band as a tool to eat almost anything without gaining weight. I would push it more and more to get more food. Over the last year I gained 10lbs, but it never went higher. I drink carbonated soda, and eat almost anything. I eat slowly depending on my restriction, but it seems to be more lose in the evening. It was because of my inability to maintain control that I had it loosened a bit since the band was a bit uncomfortable. I want to tighten it back up to a strong restriction and get back to my target weight, but I'm very afraid of my irresponsible side slowly killing me. The lapband diets are difficult for me. I have major food allergies. Raw fruit / vegetables, shell fish, nuts, all close up my esophagus. Protein products give me the same problem. My wife stocks the house with food for the kids, a inventory I can't seem to steer clear from. I want to feel full, a feeling I couldn't achieve even without the band. I instead feel uncomfortable or regrettable. I need friends I can talk to. In person works great, but difficult to find in my area.

Meats are fine as long as its not shellfish. I often wondered why people would use protein drinks instead of milk. Milk is fine too. I'm starting the five day pouch thingy and so it's just liquids tonight.
-
I can have vegetables if steamed but as for Protein drinks / bars I'm having a real problem. I can have protein from other sources but it seems like the drinks and the bars are a no-no.

I'm in Central Oregon. While I acknowledge my shortcomings and appreciate the lack of sugar coating (too many calories anyways) I can assure you my food allergies are very real.

Experiencing Heart Burn and occasional stomach pressure
Justin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had my lapband for a few years now. Lost 90-100lbs or so. Over the last couple weeks I've had heart burn with almost every substance I take. Drinks / food. Also been having stomach pain from time to time. Little freaked out so I thought I would get some insight here. -
This is happening to me right now. I took a pill yesterday and it completely closed me up. Can't eat and can only get in a few sips of water. Throat is sore from throwing up a lot. Warning to all you guys out there.

I have had this happen recently a few times. It got so bad today that I returned here after a year of leaving the forum. Its always the first meal and the pain was intense today. It was breaded popcorn chicken that triggered it. Any word what causes this?

Im a bit scared and in a lot of pain at the moment. I was banded on Dec 31st of 2007 and have since lost 90 lbs. The problem I have had in the past couple months is my lower left side below my belly button. Hurts like a sore muscle. It goes away, then comes back pretty regularly (2-3 times a week). Today, it was more center and around my port. I've seen my Dr about this and he wanted me to try some gas medicine, but Im sure its not gas. He also did a test to see if it was kidney stones, but never gave me the results. The pain is more announced today and Im a bit scaerd at the location. I have to admit though that I have not been following a regular diet by any means. I've been pushing a little more than average at night when my band seems to be looser. I tend to fall out of the diet once every now and then, but get back into track shortly after. Not that I go crazy by any means though. Anyone else experience this symptom?

This is very hard. I really wish I didn't have a kitchen at the moment. I cried a little bit since I will never have a full slice of cake, a sweet potato, a 9oz steak. I never hated myself for being overweight, just worried about my heart in the future. How do you get by? I just started my clear liquid stage, so I dont know how I will continue without going crazy. I HATE feeling hungry which is why I went with the Lap Band. Dieting ALWAYS made me miserable since I was always hungry. I'm depressed at the moment. I hope it passes soon.

I had my first fill last week and it put me to 2ccs. Well the band isn't doing squat, so I got my second fill today with another 2ccs. That puts me at 4ccs. Now if feels like when I swallow water that it goes down my throat slower. I never feel anything in my stomache though. I'm not 100% what I should feel for yet.

I had my lapband installed on Dec.31st. Im down to 260 from 290. I just had my first fill last Friday at 2ccs. My question is how much can you eat? I wonder if my band is working much at all. While I don't eat as much as I used to, its mostly because I'm careful. For lunch today I had a Quizno's flatbread sammy. Ate it all and felt like I could have eaten more. The night before I had a whole plate of sushi, rice and all. oatmeal and scrambled eggs seem to make me full, but not much else does. I have NEVER had anything come back up. So let me know. Thanks.
-
Well, Im not starving after the Sammy, its just that I was under the impression that a Sammy would be way too much. I didn't feel full either, but I wasn't starving after.
-
I've been upgraded to scrambled eggs so my wife cooked me up 2 with a small cup of apple sauce. I've never had anything solid till today with the band so Im not sure what to feel for. But I think that maybe I could have forced it a tiny tiny bit. Not sure.

Here is my dirty little secret. Here it was saturday, surgery in two days. For my last meal I had a big, juicy, steak. Seriously though, try your best to loose before the surgery. Im down 18lbs and my surgery was a week from Monday 12/31/07. But it's always been my feeling that you should never NEVER feel deprived. We didn't want to go insane, we wanted to get healthier. If you crave something, eat it, but just a sample goes a long way. Then again, I am new here.

Yeah, Im stumped on this one too. Anyone have an answer?

HELP! Banded 2 months ago w/ 7 pd lost?!?!
Justin replied to bandster_gal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cause the craptacular service of the average insurance in the United States is simply appauling. The Lap Band was developed there and can be done for a low price professionally. I hate insurance companies since they denied my mother so much over the years. She is litterally falling apart. I have BCBS of Calif and they cover everything, she has BCBS of Illinois and she gets nothing. I hate those scamming life sucking bastards. -
This is going to take alot to get used to. I feel like I could still eat, not hungery, but not satisfied. I hope I feel better about this before too long cause if I'm miserable in 6 months, Im getting deflated.
-
So, would it be considered odd to have eaten 2 and a cup of applesauce?
-
If I eat shrimp, my stomache would rip apart. My throat closes and would hold the shrimp in, I would then try to vomit, but with the band, it wouldnt pass. It would be so violent, it would mess with my suchers. Did I mention that I'm allergic to shrimp?

Is been 10 years (this Sunday) since we started dating. Trust me, I've tried everything over the years. Everything else is perfect. I absolutly love her. She just has no fantasies, no drive, no interest what-so-ever. Sometimes it hurts me deeply.
