Every person I know who dieted, gained it back with extras. Your body thinks you are starving when you diet so it stores fat with less calories each time. The nice thing is if (when) you loose the 30, it will stay off. The Lap Band has a fast recovery (Im on day 3 after my surgery and dont hurt very much at all), completely reversable (you can simply delfate it in emergencies), it has the same success rate as bypass in 1-2 years, and has far less complications from what I can tell. Good luck on your journy and congrats on your success against cancer.

Feeling full, stuffed, or not wanting to puke
Justin replied to Justin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's times like these that I really wish I didnt have a kitchen. Hungry.... -
Im supposed to get as much fluids (mostly water) down as possible. But the doc said not to guzzle it down. How much is too much in a single gulp? I feel like this is taking forever.
-
Feeling MUCH better now. Just had a protien shake and some apple juice. Think it was blood sugar related.

I had my band on Monday. Right now Im sweating, dizzy, a little weak. I think I might have a temp too, no thermometer to check (getting one). Anyone else get this? Am I being to active too soon?

I got my band on monday and I'm drinking a lot of Water. But I'm horrible at keeping track of stuff so I'm not sure what I should be doing for food. I'm pretty sure that water alone isn't a good idea. What post op diets did you guys have. PS, I plan on asking my NUT and Dr., but I would love to hear it from you guys as well. :help: -
to pee every hour and a half?

Well, December is officially over. I had my surgery yesterday and I'm feeling a little like the vice president shot me with a shotgun. Though since we all went thru this recently. We could all chant "Owwwwww".

As I type I am on my first day home. Had to stay the night cause of sleep apnea. Im not moving much, peeing ever 1.5 hours (full bladder), and I'm sore. I drink whenever I can and if I don't breath fully, I get nausia. My neck muscles are starting to stiffen and I dont know how I plan to sleep tonight. I originally wanted to return to work tomorrow, but Im not so sure atm. I sit in front of a computer all day so it might be ok. Is peeing this often normal? -
Ow, as long as I dont move too much, Im fine. I find myself having to pee every 1.5 hours. (is that normal?) Im taking a liquid vicoden that works great, just wish it would last the full 6 hours.

My surgery is on Monday, at 11:30 am. My insurance did not require a pre-op diet. I don't even know what it is to eat healthy. I don't hate my current self, nor do I strive to be thinner (it would be nice). I have never failed at a diet simply because I've never had a diet for more than 2 weeks. Two of my family members tell me I will loose weight just by not eating as much, but I come here and read that eating less isn't enough. Yet my aunt/uncle have lost over 100lbs each. They must be "sugar coating" the facts to make me feel better, but I dont know. One thing I do know is that regular diet food makes me miserable. I'm allergic to fruit, vegetables, nuts, shellfish. My perfect meals are subway, tuna sushi, mongolian noodles, steak, or really anything asian. I went on this journy since I knew my insurance covered the expence. I thought "well, if I can still be me and loose weight, why not?" But coming here made me realize that chances are, I will not be happy with the food and work required to make the band work. I guess I'm asking, what people REALLY eat with the band? Everyone here seems to be behind some denail that they only eat what the doctor orders. I find it hard to believe that we all just "gave up" foods that we enjoyed one day. I love to go to lunch with my co-workers and socialize, but I feel that I will have to ditch that if I go thru with this. Am I to believe with as little I will be eating after the band, that even if I get full on chinese food, I wont loose weight? Am I to believe that the band will still work in 10-20 years? I hear its "lifelong", but does anyone here truly believe that? You all truly believe that in 40 years, the band will still work and that its essential to your life? I'm 26, I weight 280, and I'm 5'11". I'm happy now. Will this truly make me happier? I see people use this icon a lot :whoo:. That person looks really unhappy. Why would anyone do that? I could just be nervous since my date is so soon. But I really need to hear it from you. I keep getting mixed information. Doctor says "only good foods", family says "as long as you're not drinking your cals, or eating pudding or anything easy to pass". Which is it? I'm going nuts. Answer as truthful as possible because the replies in this post will determine if I go thru with it, or cancel on Monday. Thank you.

banded, in recovery With my iPhone

I love tuna sushi. Tuna, rice, and seaweed. I'm allergic to most other types, but Tuna Sushi is my favorite food. My lap band will be installed in 2 days. It would appear that sushi is a good source of protien, but I wonder if the food is still considered "ok" since it has rice. Thanks.

Yeah, Advanced Specialty Care got me setup FAST. They are really on the ball.

I'm getting mine done on Monday at 11:30am. SO NERVOUS! Dr. Koning has been real nice though.

5 days left and I haven't been a good boy...
Justin replied to Justin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just had a talk with my doc and they told me that they dont open someone for much of anything. They will if you have a BMI of 60-90 (wow). Im currently at 39, so I'm fine. Thanks a lot for your info! -
My surgery is on the 31st. I lost 10 pounds dieting in November. The problem is I started too early and wimped out with my "Last Suppers" (damn holidays). Is it too late to diet hardcore for the surgery without my liver getting in the way or am I doomed? I am BARELY ok with surgery in the first place and I can assure you I am NOT ok with it at all unless its the simple one. Did I f*ck up? :help:
-
First, let me tell you all a little about me. My surgery date is set for the 31st (New Years Resolution to the Max eh?) I'm set for the surgery. All my requirements are done. My insurance is covering the costs so I'm set there too. The problem is...I'm not sure I want to go thru with it. I'm 26 years old, 5'11", and weigh 285. I'm on a pre-op diet to reduce my liver fat (I was at 302 lbs 12 days ago). I'm not getting the lap band to make me thin. I wanted it originally to prevent any heart disease in the future. My problem is that I'm allergic to vegetables, fruit, nuts, shellfish. Going on a diet can be difficult with those limits. Well, during the diet stage, I found out 2 things about my body. 1, if I take an allergy pill (Clarinex) before I eat a salad, I don't get a reaction (used to close my throat and cause major MAJOR pain). I also found out that if I use a steamer, it destroys whatever it is I have a reaction to. I'm eating healthy for the first time in my life and wondering if I really need a Lap-Band. I'm sure some of this comes from being nervous about the whole thing, but I honestly don't know what to do. I don't have a problem with the way I look / feel. I think that certain foods can be good for the spirit when you need a pick-me-up. I'm asking you as a comunity if I should go ahead with the surgery.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

I imagine that it remains around 98.6 degrees inside you

Of course, going thru a lot at the moment. See I have an oppertunity to skip the trial and error in a diet life and go strait for a program that works. But I don't hate how I look or feel, so Im nervous. I'm sure if I got it, a year later I would love it, but the me right now is scared beyond words.
