  1. @@mmrennau, you will do great! When people told me it got better everyday, I remember thinking it better and it did. The first couple days were difficult, but it definitely gets better every day. Good luck!
  2. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I had my bypass June 9th and am down 30 pounds. Can tolerate cottage cheese, yogurt and Soup right now. Last Tuesday I developed a sharp pain in my left should when I would breath in. As the day went on I also developed the pain in my left side, also when I breathed in. By about 8 that night I went to Urgent Care who sent me to the ER. Long story short is they did a cat scan and discovered there was an abscess on my pouch, so I have been in the hospital ever since. I have been on antibiotics, had another swallow test today to very there was a leak and that came back positive. Doc wants me here a couple more days, will move to stag 3 tomorrow and possibly be released on Sunday. He said he does not see this very often and it is typically caused by overeating. I had been on stage 4 for about a week and could barely eat a yogurt and 1/4C cottage cheese per day, so I did not cheat and have not touched anything not on the stage 4 list! Benefit, I get another week off work :-)
  3. Last night after eating about 1/4 cup of Soup it felt like the soup was just sitting in my throat, so I stopped eating. Then, I realized I had not stopped drinking prior to eating, so thought maybe that was the problem. As the night went on I developed a pain in my stomach. It was in the middle and it was like a cramp and then it would go away. Didn't think too much of it. Today, I have been getting the same pain, every 10-15 minutes, so I called the nurse and she wants me to double up on my Prilosec and see what happens (or could be gallbladder). When I sat down for dinner and only ate about 1/4C cottage cheese and got the pain, then it felt like it was in my throat again. Anyone else experience this, could it be acid reflux? I never had acid reflux prior to surgery.

    Acid Reflux?

Thanks for all of the responses. Today went much better, I did not have that cramp or the feeling of food in my throat. I guess I just ate too much, who would have thought 1/2 cup could be too much. Today, I ate 1/4 cup portions and that seemed to be the trick. Its all a learning curve!
  5. I was super nauseous in the hospital, so continued to take medication (Zofran) the first two days I was home because I was afraid of the nausea. Just today (two weeks) I transitioned to cream and blended things, so maybe the cream soup was too much for your stomach. I would try going back to clear liquids for a bit and see what happens. Best of luck!
  6. @@ejones8979 when I went to my post-op appointment last Friday, the doctor told me I could transition this Tuesday, which will be two weeks exactly. I am looking forward to it, but more for a change of pace, not that I am craving food. I went shopping today and stocked up on Soup, yogurt, pudding and cottage cheese :-)
  7. @@KDM74 I had my surgery on 06/09 and my birthday was 06/14. I knew I was not having cake for my birthday and was okay with that. But then, when I started getting all of the emails, free popcorn for your birthday at the theater, free entrée for your birthday from Harvey's Grill, free pretzel for your birthday from Auntie Anne's........these companies are trying to make us fat....lol I am 10 days post-op now and have not felt a hunger feeling yet. I am taking advantage of it because I know it will come eventually.
  8. @@sarahbee glad to hear you are doing well. I had surgery 06/09 and still have not had a hunger feeling. I am able to eat Jello, but have no desire to eat, so I have been on strictly liquids since I have been home.

    Protein

The NUT in the hospital told me the Protein requirement was based on height. I am 5'3" and by the end on the first month they would be like consuming 50 grams, then up to 70 for long term.
  10. I would say yes, also. I had surgery on Tuesday and was for sure I was going to die (lol) and I just got back from my first drive into town and feel pretty good. Be sure to take your pain meds, just to be safe. Sorry about your loss and good luck!

    Surgery Tomorrow

@@B_Darkly how did everything go? I also had surgery on the 9th and can say the first two days were the two most difficult days of my life. My pain was manageable, but everything made me nauseous. I was receiving two different medications via IV and finally got it under control on the second day. Everyone talks about passing gas, well little did I know you also get diarrhea when your bowels begin moving again after the anesthesia, so that was interesting. When I was released to go to stage two (water), it made me nauseous, so I had to go back to ice chips. Then finally on day three was able to tolerate Water and Protein, so was released yesterday. Today I do feel a bit better, so I am hoping it gets better every day like people say. I have been taking my meds every 6 hours because I do not EVER want to feel like I did two days ago, it was horrible! I am interested in hearing how your journey has went this far.

    GOT MY DATE - JUNE!

Checking in here ladies - I had my Roux En Y yesterday and it was by far the most difficult day of my life. My pain was manageable, but I was nauseous all day and night. Up nearly every hour walking. Had my leak test this morning and passed, so I was switched to water. Was told I could have four, one ounce med cups per hour, got one ounce down and was nauseous again, so was moved back to ice chips. Then about noon today, I developed diarrhea which is not fun when you are trying to get gas out. That passed and now I am resting pretty comfortably, planning to go home tomorrow but not looking forward to the hour drive.
  14. I wish you the best of luck.....I am scheduled to check-in at 7:15am. I am not nervous yet, but I'm sure I will be nervous as hell in the morning!
  15. Sadly, I ended up purchasing a journal because I could not find an app that just everything I wanted. I liked MyFitnessPal, but you cannot adjust the grams of Protein only select a percentage. I purchase my journal at Barnes & Noble and love it. It's titled "Diet Minder", about 6" X 9", spiral bound and there are two pages for every day. You start by writing the date and day # (this is nice for preop diet), there are categories for Breakfast, Snack, lunch, Snack, dinner and Snack, you can track calories, fat grams, carbs, Fiber and protein. There are totals for each meal, then a daily total for each category. There is also a section each day where you can record vitamins/supplements and physical activity. Anyway, may be old school writing everything down, but I love it.

    GOT MY DATE - JUNE!

I started my 10 day pre-op diet today and it was not nearly as bad as I expected. I was only hungry once and it was right before dinner. Breakfast - 1C milk, visalus Protein and PB2 lunch - 1C milk, 1C cottage cheese Snack - hard boiled egg Dinner - 3oz chicken, 1C green Beans and 1C milk Snack - Jello I sure hope the next 9 days fly by, I am ready to do this!
  18. Just checking in, how is everyone doing? Our days are becoming limited (12 for me)!! I had my nutrition class today, not too much new information. The two things I did learn, I did NOT like! I learned that my Dr. requires his roux en y patients to have a catheter and I also have to do the colon cleanse the day before surgery - GRRRRRR! I am scheduled to be at work the day before surgery, so I am not sure how that's going to do over :-) Hope everyone is doing well and getting prepared!!
  19. @@marysmom1216, she is NOT what I would consider a friend after making a comment like that, friends are supposed to be there to support one another, not make comments like that. I am doing the exact same thing right now because I start my pre-op diet on Sunday. We have went to several of my favorite restaurants, I had my mother in law make my favorite Cookies, etc. I plan on sticking to the diet 100%, so need to have these foods one last time. Hang in there and don't let her get you down!

    Food Processor Suggestions

I have a Ninja and LOVE IT! Mine came with a large "family" blender, two personal blending cups and a food processor. It was a little pricey, around $200 and I am not sure about the warranty, but it's been worth every dollar!

    GOT MY DATE - JUNE!

@@jeanineee, Im a June 9th-er. I have my sixth and last appointment with my PCP June 1st and I have a nutrition class next week, then I'll be good to go as far as appointments. I am new to this site to, but I think just getting to know each other is considered a "buddy" and we can keep each other up to date on how we are doing, etc.
  22. @@carebear42, isn't is crazy how it consumes your life? A friend of mine had bypass back in February and I do not remember her talking about it as much as I think about it, so sometimes wonder if it's just me. I think about something related to it, every single minute of every single day!! I am not nervous yet, but I wonder what the night before is going to be like. I can imagine I will get little to no sleep. This was my last full weekend of freedom (before my pre-op diet), so we did go out to eat quite a bit, just hitting up those favorites one last time :-)
  23. Spiceyfrog

    scared.

@@MissRissa922, if you just google Roux En Y Bypass, you will find a wealth of information. If, after doing your research this is what you want, go for it. I have only told a couple close friends, my brother and of course my husband because I did not want to hear the negativity. Not even that I thought I might, I just didn't want to take that chance. I have done my research and feel this is the best bet for me, so I am doing it. I have also been overweight my entire life, have lost weight on diets and gained more back each time and I am just tired of it. I believe this is going to be a life changing opportunity for me and I am going to take it. By far.....NOT the easy way out!
  24. @@carebear42, I am not required to do a liquid diet, just low fat/carb, high Protein for 10 days to shrink my liver. I am pretty sure I would die on a liquid diet :-)
