Does Removing Staples Hurt?
Spiceyfrog replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have staples for bariatric surgery, but did when I had a c-section and I did not even feel them being removed. You'll do great! -
1 week post-op. How many "meals"?
Spiceyfrog replied to TMG1980TMG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would focus on Protein, as the previous poster mentioned. It all depends on how much you can eat at one time. If you can only get a half yogurt down, you may be eating 6-7 times per day, whatever it takes to get your protein in. It will all "come together" for you, hang in there. -
Walking Post Op
Spiceyfrog replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@StephOnTheMove, I am pretty sure I did not walk more than 5-10 minutes the first week I was home. As you mentioned, Protein will definitely help with your energy level. Another thing I did when I noticed my energy level was low, was switch to regular gatorade for a day, that really helped me get through that first 4-6 weeks. -
Transitioning between diet phases
Spiceyfrog replied to gpmed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not follow the 30/30 rule until I was eating solid foods. I am almost four months post op and I still drink a shake every morning because I cannot physically consume enough food to get all of the required Protein. I have had a really hard time with meat, so I am still eating alot of cottage cheese, cheese and yogurt. Just follow your body, it will tell you when you need to begin following the 30/30 rule. -
What happens if you eat something before you're supposed to (clear liquid, puree, etc.)?
Spiceyfrog replied to sonnysun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine with just those two items, but people who continually eat what they are not supposed to can develop leaks in their pouch, which could require an additional surgery. -
Boobs for sure!!

Looking for the right protein drink...
Spiceyfrog replied to cheri02's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This seems to be a very common battle. I found a brand called AMP (chocolate) at GNC that I really loved after trying about 6-8 others, but developed really bad gas shortly after I started using it. Come to find out it had something to do with mixing Protein and skim milk and how the emzymes react, etc. So, I switched to Fairlife milk and wouldnt change a thing now! Good luck! -
@@toasty, thanks for all the research! Yes, I will end up using a sugar substitute, but wanted to rule out that we could not use it because it states that it tastes similar to brown sugar and of course that is a key ingreadent in making pumpkin pie taste good :-)
-
I have never heard of this, but would agree that some Protein is better than none. What is the debate?
-
I did not have any intolerances to cold or hot and I was drinking both the day I got home. Best of luck to you!

Lost 18 lbs. I'm 4 days post op.
Spiceyfrog replied to RGraham87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you cannot eat/drink warm things, keep pushing the cold Protein drinks. You need to get in some protein to keep your strenght up. Hang in there, it only gets better :-) -
Advice about "fullness"
Spiceyfrog replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Daisee68, I am one of those people who can only eat 4-5 bites at a time. I am almost 4 months post-op and measure everything. The most I have ever been able to eat is 1/2C and that is only soft stuff like cottage cheese, yogurt and Soup. Last week I made chili and was only able to eat 1/4C each evening. I don't intend to use full as a measurement, but it just happens because I can eat so little. I hardly ever have more than one thing on my plate at a time and I struggle to meet my Protein goal on a daily basis even though it seems like I eat non-stop (5-6 times per day). Your calorie range seems realistic, but as others have said I would not eat until you were full, you have to leave a little room for expansion. How do you do on your Fluid intake, are you meeting your daily goal? -
10/8/2015 Surgery Date...lower BMI range 30.3. So excited!
Spiceyfrog replied to sleever54's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Best of luck to you! PS - I forgot about the cabbage soup diet, did that one too! -
Hi had surgery on 29th....
Spiceyfrog replied to mouse1972rb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first three months, I had to brush my teeth so many times per day I thought they would fall out. Sorry I don't have a solution, but know this is definitely normal and will pass. -
Fairlife milk, carbs...I tried quoting but it obviously didn't work.
-
There are 6g in a cup, I didn't think that was too bad.
-
When did you feel "normal"
Spiceyfrog replied to honeypeas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Basically until you get all of your required Protein on a regular basis. I did not feel 100% like my old self (energy wise) until month three! Hang in there, it will get a little better every day! -
At what point did you stop treating your scars? I have gone through an entire bottle of Frankenscence oil and most recently bought some Vitamin E oil and am nearly four months post op. I really don't care if they go completely away because no one (except my husband) will ever see my stomach, but I was just wondering at what point (how many months) are you wasting your time and money?
-
There was a recipe on the PB2 Facebook page for PB Protein brownies and they were disgusting! I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried any of the recipies is the previous posters link. I am still in search of that go to "dessert".
-
On a daily basis I drink one protein shake made with Fairlife milk (13g of protein), then unsweetened iced tea and I just recently discovered a couple flavors of Sobe that I enjoy!

What did you do to get out of work for surgery? What did you tell work?
Spiceyfrog replied to RGraham87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used FMLA as well and had paid sick time saved up. I had initially planned on taking three weeks off, but went back in the hospital the weekend before I was scheduled to go back to work, so ended up being off five weeks. -
Things I hate about being skinny
Spiceyfrog replied to micmt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found a new one today....I was mowing the lawn and twice, I hit a bump and enough of my body weight come off the seat to turn the blades off....grrr! -
Things I hate about being skinny
Spiceyfrog replied to micmt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not "technically" skinny yet, but already cold ALL the time! -
Like you said, it's definitely bittersweet. I am three months post-op and have dumped four times. After the first two times, I knew what was coming and what was about to happen and all four times have been the same "schedule of events", if you will. The first two times it was sweets (learned my lesson), the third it was fish and the fourth it was ham! Shortly after I begin eating (like two bites, literally minutes), my mouth will start watering. Then it's nearly an entire hour before I actually throw-up. I wish I could just throw-up and get it over with, but have been unsuccessful at those two attempts. I am happy that I have experienced dumping, but sad that I have not tolerated meat well. If I could just dump on sweets, I would be a happy camper!

Hair lose after RNY
Spiceyfrog replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started taking Biotin and Silica months prior to my surgery and in the last couple week (3 months post-op), I just started losing hair. I am fortunate to have alot of hair, but the thought still freaks me out. When I get out of the shower, the drain is literally plugged, so I hope this phase don't last long! It is odd that yours all came out in the same spot, so that would make me want to ask my surgeon. Good luck and keep us posted if you find any answers.
