@@Djmohr, how long did you wait before trying something the second time - one month, three months?

Is dumping syndrome forever?
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Dumping is for the rest of your life, but you will figure out exactly what you can and cannot eat and I consider dumping a benefit because it tends to keep most people honest. You cannot let it fear you and as others mentioned make sure when you are introducing new foods, that you do so one at a time. I have only dumped on sweets once, when I decided to take a taste of frosting from the container (old habit....lol) and I also dump on meat. Most people would not consider it dumping, but I don't know what else it would be considered. i just know not to try new meats unless I am at home. Some people say that if you cannot tolerate something at this time, you may be able to in the future, but let me tell you - once something makes you dump, it very difficult to try it again. -
Garden burger/toast
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told only very crisp toast as well but have not tried it...no desire to eat bread. I did however have a veggie quinoa burger with a slice of cheese last week. I could only eat about 3/4 of it but it was heavenly!! -
How long does it take you to drink
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing great at an hour and a half. I bring a 32 ounce cup of tea to work and it takes me the entire work day to drink it. That of course includes stops for a snack and lunch. -
Two week check in, and an introduction.

How to get protein in first week out?
Spiceyfrog replied to cjd2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me to focus on fluids and gradually add in Protein. He actually said my goal was 50 grams, but do not expect to hit it until around the one month mark and I didn't. As I am sure you are aware, there are a million (well, really not that many) types of protein and unfortunately you will have to continue trying them until you find one you can tolerate because it's nearly impossible to get your required protein from just food. I would say I tried between 6-7 before I settled on the chocolate AMP from GNC. The nice thing about GNC is their return policy. You can return ANYTHING you don't like with no questions asked, whether it has been opened/used or not. Good luck! -
eating TOO much?
Spiceyfrog replied to Joy Thompson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Joy Thompson - I had the same problem with Protein powders/milk and gas a couple months ago. I happened to be at a support group meeting and someone mentioned the same problem. They said they had done some research online and found some data about how the enzymes in milk react with protein, etc. and that they had switched to Fairlife milk. So, of course desperate, I stopped on my way home that night and purchased Fairlife milk and have not had a problem since. -
So excited! 7months out

1/2cup of food
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be alarmed, because everyone is different.....but I was only able to eat 1/2 of a scrambled egg and it wasn't until around 12 weeks. I am four months post op and still can only eat 1/2C at a time. Like the previous poster mentioned, most amounts are maximum recommendations. So, just because you are not full (you most likely will not have a "full" feeling because the nerves that were cut in your stomach are not healed), you likely are also not hungry. It does get easier and you experiment and get things figured out, hang in there! -
I eat Quest as well, you can get a variety 12 pack on Amazon for around $25.

How many times a day do you eat?
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat 6 times per day, per my nut because I cannot eat more than a half cup. -
@@Djmohr - I was not happy to read your post....lol! I had very thick hair and it has been falling out like crazy!! The drain is literally FULL every single night. It's naturally curly, so on a daily basis I cannot tell by looking at it, but I can tell when I wash it and also when I just dry it (with no product) and put it in a pony. i was hoping this too would pass quickly, but based on your response it don't sound like i am going to be that lucky!

@@lsheshequin, you look great, what a difference in just 5 months. Your face looks so much thinner and compare your arm in the last two pictures - congratulations and keep up the good work!

How Many Grams of Sugar per Day?
Spiceyfrog replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@bakawaka - I have never tracked my total grams of sugar per day, but I do eat a couple varieties of Greek (because it contains more protein) yogurt; Dannon Light & Fit and Oikos Triple Zero, both of which contain 7 grams of sugar. As @@toasty mentioned there are some sugars that are okay and I have also been told by my nutritionist that the sugar in yogurt is one of them. So, sorry I do not have an answer, but you should be able to find yogurt with less than 20 grams of sugar if you are concerned about that amount. Good luck! -

I'm just not hungry!
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@sarahbethemails, as long as you are getting your fluids in, I would not be to concerned at your stage. Dehydration is the major concern in the first couple weeks. Take full advantage of not being hungery because as your stomach heals, you will develope those sensations again. My surgeon told me to work on my Protein goal over the first month, so again, I would not sweat it, you are in a very early stage and your belly has alot of healing to do! Good luck! -
Protein Shake Problems...
Spiceyfrog replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everything poted here. You most likely will not find one that you "like" but one that you can "tolerate". I would guess I went through 6-7 before I settled on AMP Chocolate from GNC. Another thing to keep in mind is that GNC has a guarantee, if you do not like their products, you can return them even if they are opened. Good Luck! -
Protein Shaker Forever?
Spiceyfrog replied to zackly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four months post op and still drinking one shake (33 grams of protein) per day. My surgeon only requires 50 grams per day and I struggle with that, so I would never be able to get to 70. I can only eat about 1/2C at a time, so I still eat high Protein everything, cottage cheese, cheese, greek yogurt and a very little bit of meat (only because my pouch does not tolerate most meats). -
Yes, which applies to sleeve and bypass and when you think about it, it only makes sense. If you have for example a 4 ounce stomach and you drink three ounces of water, that leaves one ounce of room for nutrient rich food and then your full. Water does not just run through your system, sure it does not have to be digested like food, but it don't just disapear in a matter of minutes, so it takes up room.

What were your favorite first "solid" foods?
Spiceyfrog replied to FocusOnMeNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cheese is still one of my favorite solids, it's so easy to grab a babaybel and get 8 grams of protein. Another issue with salad is that there is typically not many in any grams of protein in a salad, so you are just filling your stomach with "empty" food. -
Liquids do not wash food out of your stomach, they actually fill you up, therefore you are unable to eat as much at that particular setting. So, the less food you are able to eat, the less nutrients you absorb.

If you feel as though you want to lose another 5 pounds, I would by all means. I do not think you look too thin, you look great!
-
I am allowed all soups now but don't typically eat them because they are not a great source of protein. As for the 500 calories, I would not sweat that. My NUT recommends 600-700 until maintenance and I average around 500. Keep up the good work!!

Has anyone ever used Coconut Sugar? I have been looking for a crustless, high Protein pumpkin pie recipie and I've found a couple that contain coconut sugar. I don't really use sugar, so get them all mixed up as far as what we should be using - fructose, sucrose, glucose, etc. I did a little bit of research and found that it is very equivilant in calories to regular sugar.... "However, coconut sugar is 70 to 79 percent sucrose and only three percent to nine percent each of fructose and glucose. This is an advantage, because you want to keep your consumption of fructose as low as possible, and cane sugar is 50 percent fructose. Coconut sugar is caramel colored with a taste that is similar to that of brown sugar and can be substituted for cane sugar in most recipes." Any input/experience would be appreciated?
