  1. I am so sorry this happened to you. I had surgery on June 6th at 7 am and was home by 3 pm. I was one of the Blessed ones who had no pain or gas pain and my recovery was beautiful and easy. You should have been told to stay close by for at least 3 days to see how things settle and then to fly? 2009 will be a much better year for you. Good Luck

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Happy New Year to each of you. 2008 was a blessed year for me. I had a new grandbaby, my children are happy and employed and I got banded on June 6 th and i am now 50 lbs less and I have a loving husband and my 2 Jack Russells lying between my husband and me keeping us all nice and warm. Life is good. Happy: I have type 2 diabetes and I take very little insulin now because I don't eat carbs. Just keep close track of your blood sugars and remember as you lose weight your insulin needs will change. I forgot that one night and took my usual dose and ended up bottoming out during the night. I was able to handle it, but that's when the light bulb went off and i was like, ok you now weigh 40lbs less, you don't need as much insulin. Hope this help you Happy and we'll all be praying for you on the 12th. God Bless

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Apples, where do you live? I am so glad I live in Maryland where the weather is moderate in the winter time. I really dislike cold weather, and snow. As far as being a hospice nurse, it's a calling from God. I thank him everyday for calling me into his service and I am honored to be able to take care of people who are transitioning from this life to another. I am Blessed everyday by my patients and how courageous they are. Dying is not for the faint of heart. It can be a long process however, we now have the ability to keep people comfortable and out of pain. Stay safe in the blizzard and enjoy Florida.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Well, I have really been holding all of you up in prayer. Sometimes it just seems like it never stops once the Dam breaks open. I am a hospice nurse and it does seem to me that people just let go around this time of year. The holiday season is a very stressfull time and I wonder sometimes if the frailest of the frail begin to feel our stress or we transfer it to them somehow. Mimi, not being able to get closure with your dad must be hard. You can't even begin to move forward when you get stuck in a holding pattern with your grief. I think we all understand stress eating. Food is our comfort and right now you need to be comforted. I am asking the Lord to give you the comfort you need and the much needed rest. That he will take and wipe away your need for food at this time. Charlene: I have spent many years working as a Director of Nursing in continuing care retirement communities and yes it is a great relief to know that your mother can age in place and many families have told me how nice it is to know their loved one is being taken care of and someone is on call 24/7 and it doesn't have to be you. Apples: What a nice tribute to your friend that you are all getting together to honor her memory on her birthday! Here's hoping it's a great celebration of life in her honor.

Hi Sweetalie: I too was banded in June of 08 and i'm down 50 lbs. Now I don't know about you but I am thrilled with my weight loss. I think 50 lbs is well within the normal weight loss range. Now, if I can lose another 50, I'll lookin good. God Bless, Susan

    Can you relate???

I am sorry that you are having those feelings. It can't feel good. Have you tried counseling? One thing I was told when I had my psych eval pre-op was if I was unhappy before surgery, I'd still be unhappy when all the weight was gone. She told me, you are who you are whether you weigh 300 or 100. She was adamant the losing weight would not solve problems other then medical ones. She gave me a lot to think about. I do hope you find happiness and contentment. Keep posting

2nd Band Still No Weight Loss

I am sorry to hear of your struggle, and I am sure you are discouraged! Have you tired counseling to help you with the need to feed? It's probably head hunger which feels very much like real hunger. Even if you could eat a lot of food you should be measuring your food and making sure you are not eating more then you should be. The band really is just a tool to remind you to not eat more then you should. Are you getting in 60-90 gms of Protein per day? I find when I slack off on the protein I get hungry. Also, I agree that if you can only get down slider foods you may be to tight. Only you can control what you put in your mouth. You can do this, I know you can. Find out what the 5 day pouch test is and do it. Get proactive and take care of yourself, because no one else will. Everyone here care about you and we want you to be successful but you have to want it for yourself. It's never to late to get back on track. Keep in touch, I'll be praying that God gives you the strength you need to defeat this. Now go seize the day!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Apples, sounds like a lot of fun. When I was a young girl my family, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc use to get together for NYE what good times we had! Charlene, I am sorry for your loss and your mom's loss. You both are in my prayers. It's so hard when older people start losing everyone they know.My mom is 87 in good health and of sound mind. She is the only on left from her family and friends. It gets her down at times, but she loves her great granddaughters, all nine of them and loves to be around them. Long and your GM is going to be 100! wow! Give my best to your GM. I hope things go well looking for an assisted living facility for her. Can't imagine moving at 100.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi Hockeyson, I live in Kingsville, MD just south of Harford County. Welcome to this site. I was banded in June and have lost about 45 lbs. I am very pleased with my weight loss. I need a fill right now because I have only lost 1 lb in the past 8 weeks. I go next week for a fill. Hopefully I can get back to losing weight since I have another 50 lbs to go. I'd like to be at my goal around 150 by my one year anniversay in June. Anyway, keep up the good work. Don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions or need anything. Your Neighbor, Susan

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Merry Chirstmas to everyone. Lisalee, good luck with your move to the country and I really hope you get internet access sooner rather than latter. Long, good luck on getting up at 4 in the morning. I'm usually just getting back to bed. I'm usually up between 1 and 4 am and then go back to sleep until 7:30. My DH has to be to work by 6 and gets up at 5 am. He usually goes to bed around 9 pm. But as he says, you get used to it. I thank God everyday for this site as I am on it reading everyday even though I write very little. Hugs and Blessings at this most Blessed time
  21. Wow, we really have accomplished some great things since June! I've learned that food is not important I've learned to my amazement how little food you need to survive I've learned there are some really awsome people on this board I've learned to eat slow or pay by pb'ing I've learned that my insulin needs are 75% less then before surgery I've learned that my family is suppotive of my journey and I've learned that God never fails us and has been my constant through it all.

    I can't burp!?!

Walk,Walk,Walk,Walk and Walk more! The diarrhea is normal. I had several unexpected sudden explosive diarrheas, which was no picnic. You should start to feel better in a few days. Good luck, it does get better.

    Not What I Expected

I wish you all success, peace and happiness. But for the Grace of God there go I". My band so far, and I say so far because I know that at any time, I could start with complications and have to have mine removed also. Everyone is different and reacts to things differently. Some people have their bands in for a long time and some don't. Keep in touch with us and let us know how you all are doing. You're all still family here.

    Chatroom for 50's?

I would be very interested also. I thought I set one up in the chat room area, but it disappeared. Maybe, one of the moderators could set one up.
