I have been overweight my whole life. Had several medical problems. Diabetes, which I ended up on 3 medications to control it. Metformin, and two types of insulin. I still take two pills for my high blood pressure but I am working on getting off of those. PCOS, which I have an IUD for that.
I had gastric sleeve surgery on April 8th of 2015. My surgical and care team was amazing. I was not scared or nervous at all. I was given anxiety drugs in my IV before being wheeled into the OR. I barely remember a few things about the OR. They had the mask on my face, which I did not care for but I was drugged enough I tolerated it. I remember my hands were being tied down, then someone said "Ok I am putting something in your IV." And that is the last thing I remembered.
I woke up in PACU to a nurse telling me we were all done, and they were going to call my mom back in a few minutes. Then I was out again. Next thing I know my mom was stroking my hair telling it's ok, go back to sleep.
I was taken to my room around 1 pm. My staff was there waiting for me, and addressed any issue I had right away. That was the was the whole hospital stay. Everyone from the nursing aide to the surgeon cared about my issues. It was a pleasant hospital stay, even with all the pain.
I am now 9 days post op, and doing great. The hospital staff or my surgeons office have called me a total of 3 times to see how I am doing.
I am tolerating fluids and getting all my protein in that I need. Pain and nausea are being handled excellently with the medications they gave me.
I am already seeing changes in my body, and how I feel.
I am excited for what the future holds.
