So confused? Thought I did my homework
Karla Yates Phelps replied to Hertsukfem31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Anyone who thinks WLS keeps them from having to maintain a healthy diet and measure amounts eaten on a regular basis is misinformed! It will always be work, and if you aren't wanting it, don't have the surgery. Good luck to you! -
Gallbladder

Terrible right side abdominal pain and vomiting! No relief until they finally took it out. Symptoms had been intermittent before then. -

Gallbladder
Karla Yates Phelps replied to tangotony72's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had three "normal" gallbladder ultrasounds before they finally decided to remove it. It was not normal. Was white and full of stones! Trust your body, not test results. -
Take some lip balm too! Reading material. The second night is boring. Best to you all!

Tomorrow is the Big Day for Me! I'm so nervous
Karla Yates Phelps replied to Tamika's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Update us once you can. I hope surgery went well and you are having an easy recovery! Gas pains lasted a few days after discharge. Walking was the only way to keep it moving for me. First day post op is the worst and should improve everyday. Best to you! Looking forward to hearing about your progress! Welcome to the losers bench! -
Good luck to you! It seems that the time has flown once the date is here. Hope your recovery is quick and uneventful. Sounds like you may have an ulcer, or gastritis, with the pain you describe. Make sure to take the Prilosec, or whatever they prescribe, post op. I was hurting pre op too but failed to take my Prilosec once I got home because I felt they were too big. That was a mistake! After an ER visit and follow up with my surgeon we realised why I was so sick (couldn't eat or drink enough and ended up dehydrated). Found some smaller pills and the pain was better after 24 hours and then gone after about a week.

Wanted sleeve. Help me believe RNY is better.
Karla Yates Phelps replied to Gemini216's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a Sleeve done on 4/26/2010. They had only been doing them in the U.S. for about a year then. Four months post Sleeve I began vomiting bile randomly. Anytime day or night, on an empty stomach, it would hit. My sleeve surgeon told me that he would just live with it! I changed doctors right after that. On Jan. 20, 2015 I was converted to RNY. They have learned that some who have GERD before sleeve will have this problem and the RNY is the only way to stop it. By rerouting the intestines the bile is no longer able to get into my pouch, making me sick. Looking at the timeline you can see that I suffered with it for almost five years. I had multiple scopes, x-rays, and had my gallbladder removed during that time. So far this seems to have fixed it. Hope this may help you make up your mind. Best to you! -
Does Your GI System Feel Different?
Karla Yates Phelps replied to QuilterGal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 8weeks post op RNY. I am having to learn a whole new normal since everything is different. From the noise to the final outcome is not the same, not bad, just different. -
I started the vitamins pre op. Wanted it to be a habit before it needed to be. I also bought frozen weight watcher meals and ate them. Sort of like Nutri System but buying it locally. I used them for two meals a day, and I lost 26 pounds in about two months. I would always cut it up into small pieces and eat as slow as I could, tried for twenty minutes, and always felt satisfied. Good luck to you. Plus I walked everyday.

17 days post op with complications
Karla Yates Phelps replied to Padraigm613's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am almost eight weeks post RNY. Began to have vertigo spells when I lay down in the bed about two weeks ago. I didn't think about dehydration as a possible cause. I get my fluids in each day but maybe pushing a little more wouldn't hurt. So sorry you are having problems. Please be persistent with the surgeon and relaying to them the symptoms you are having. Do not just live with it. You deserve to feel well and whatever they have to do to achieve that should be their priority. You must speak up and be your own best advocate. No one else will do it for you. Best of luck in finding the fix for your problems!
