    What did your breast's do?

LOL, I'm enjoying reading this thread. Misery loves company!! I'm down about 60 lbs from my high weight back in January and I had to go bra shopping this past weekend. I went from a 50D to a 46C, and some C's are big. I did find the Lane Bryant Balconette bras are great for holding the girls up and providing a little padding.

    Pre-op Diet Confusion

I would replace the Protein shake with the unjury chicken broth and stick to the protein goal your NUT gave you. My NUT and surgeon stressed the importance of keeping your carbs low on the pre-op diet to allow your liver to shrink. I would not add in carbs to allow for the T2 Diabetes. I would adjust my diabetes medication if I needed to. Actually that's what I did. I took my metformin as prescribed and I was also on insulin twice daily so I backed off on the amount of insulin I took to allow for the lower carbs. Best of luck to you! Don't be hesitant to call you drs. office and ask them to clarify their instructions. That's what they're there for!

    Work

I was out two weeks. I work in an office, no heavy lifting, etc... I was able to be at my desk and get some work done, but I was really tired and lethargic. I think 3 weeks off would have been better.

    Ladies over 50 - bypass

I'll try the ham next time I make it. I used frozen chicken strips that were precooked and chopped them up pretty fine. I haven't tried Enbrel. I left a message with my PCP this morning and asked about options for pain relief. Hopefully he will get back with me soon.

    Ladies over 50 - bypass

Hope your feeling better today @@nancynew! I tried the quiche yesterday @@beachgal and it is really good! My non WLS hubby loved it too! Thanks for the recipe. I'm 20 days out from surgery today and am doing pretty well. I still get tired pretty quickly and am dealing with arthritis pain since I can't take NSAIDS anymore. Tylenol just doesn't work as well as Aleve did. I spoke to the surgeon's office today and they cleared me to go back to the gym for aerobic exercise, treadmill, eliptical, etc... no weights for 6 weeks though. Hopefully that will help me stretch out some and relieve some of the pain also.
  9. Thanks , darling, will try that. How are you feeling? I'm feeling good! Post-op pain is gone, incisions are healing well. Getting in all the liquids and Proteins after surgery is my challenge now! It feels a little weird to have surgery behind me and to be focusing on what now.
  10. I didn't have to have the pulmonary clearance, but I did have to have the cardiac clearance. Like SuzeMuze, I had an ekg, then had a stress echocardiogram. The cardiologist didn't like the way the echocardiogram looked, so he sent me for a heart catheterization. That showed that everything was completely normal and he finally cleared me for surgery. Try not to stress too much over the pre-op testing. It seems like a lot, but it's reassuring to know they've checked all that out before surgery.
  11. On my pre-op diet, I would drink Water with crystal light to help curb hunger pangs. Also, I was able to have sugar free popsicles, that helped. Good luck, hang in there. It will get easier day by day.

    Let's talk about diabetes!

I just had bypass surgery on April 28, and was on metformin and long acting insulin prior to surgery. I stopped both on the day of surgery and have been watching my blood sugar level daily. My fasting has been in the 130-140 range each morning. I just added metformin back into my daily regimen, the surgeon said that patients that were previously on metformin usually have a better weight loss if they stay on it for awhile. I had to switch to the short release vs extended release but I'm hoping this will help bring my fasting levels lower and in time I will be able to wean off of it also. Good luck to you!

    ????Purée's????

Yes, I would skip the crunchy/crispy parts of the ricotta and the recipe I saw for the pumpkin puree' used splenda or truvia for sweetner. With the baked ricotta, we just can't have any crispy spots right? Or will it melt enough in our mouth, to not hurt new pouch? I also wonder if the pumpkin purée has to much sugar? Do they even make a sugar free version if yes? I'm trying my best to not dump.

    ????Purée's????

I just remembered a few more... pureed cauliflower with cheese, baked ricotta, & baked pumpkin custard. Search pinterest for bariatric diet purees and you'll get lots of good ideas! ????Purée's????

I didn't get any instructions that spoke specifically to gastric irritants. I saw my NUT and Surgeon on Friday and they both said coffee (caffeinated or not) is okay as long as I am tolerating it alright. I haven't really wanted much, but I mixed some with my Protein shake this morning at work. As far as pureed foods... I had thought of corned beef hash, refried Beans with cheese, oatmeal (can't wait to get away from sweet Protein shakes for breakfast!), soft cooked eggs, applesauce, mashed sweet potatoes... that's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. , but I'm taking notes!

Hang in there @@nancynew the pain gets better quickly. I'm 9 days out today and in almost no pain at all. The worst pain was from the Co2 gas moving around and that took a few days to work it's way out.
  19. I had my surgery April 28th. I've had good and bad moments. I wasn't allowed anything by mouth until the next morning after the swallow test. Last night and the night before we're pretty rough. Lots of pain. Couldn't get comfortable. I'm finally at home and hoping for a better night tonight.
  20. This is it! On my way to the hospital for surgery this morning! Best wishes and good luck to all my April 28th surgery buddies. I'll check in with you all later!

    Liquid Diet

My surgery is scheduled for 4/28 and I only have to do clear liquids 24 hours before surgery. The 2 weeks before surgery I am on a very low carb (30 grams or less per day) and high protein (70 grams) diet. It's hard, but manageable. I've lost 7 lbs in the last 5 days I've been on this plan. The nurse really stressed the importance of following this to shrink my liver prior to surgery.
