Multiple lab blood tests, X-rays and then CAT scan (with yucky dye iv) and they ruled out lung clot. They did however diagnose me with Atelectasis. I guess a partial lung collapse common after abdominal surgery. Could turn into Pneumonia if I don't do what I'm supposed to. Big deep breaths, breathing into incentive spirometer (was sent home from surgery with this and I prob didn't use as often as I should have) And exercise until I'm winded. I have been walking 2-3 miles a day but at a slower pace (45-50 mins). They did not allow me to advance to the next food stage, Im still on liquids and yogurt. I guess this just got real. Breathing into a hose several times every hour (except when sleeping) for the next 7-10 days! It was so nice to read all your concern. I ❤️ this thread! -

So Good to hear! I, on the other hand, just called my Doc's office. I woke up with pain under my mid left rib cage when I take deep breaths. It has gotten a little worse, hurts pretty severe when I sneeze or cough. They told me to take some pain meds, in case it is swelling associated with the surgery and they want me to be seen tomorrow. I hope it has nothing to do with that damn inspirometer. I was rather lazy about breathing into it after about day 3????. I really don't feel like I have congestion or pneumonia, though. We shall see. Hello savorysweet, how did you make out at doctors. Nothing too serious I hope. The pain at the rib cage, did doctor have any idea of what's going on. Thanks for checking on me. They sent me for a chest X-ray then read that and told me to go to hospital for CAT scan and some other test. So now we are playing the waiting game. -

You're just one week behind me ????. I was so relieved to be off the pain meds too! The time goes by so fast, and I feel like there is always something that I am supposed to be remembering to do; drink, Vitamins, Protein shakes etc. Its hard to keep up. But I already feel that it is so worth it, for whatever improvements I get, I am grateful. -

@@imjenn Im so sorry to hear of your rough time. My incisions are are driving me crazy, they are itching soooo much, and every time I itch them they hurt. Its maddening! @@Salonboi Yes, I did visit Charlotte fairly often, Our family had some good times there. Dad has since moved to Richmond. @@dawnyoung872 I used to live in Murrells Inlet SC and my daughter was born in Georgetown! We loved SC. Its Thursday for me, when I move to the next stage of washable /soft foods, like scrambled eggs. I can't wait. 2 weeks on that until I move to the next stage, real food. I am experiencing head hunger. But I worry that my pouch is too big. Ive been able to drink my shakes (2 a day) and brother and yogurt (5oz) with out feeling full. I of course worry I will be the only one with a pouch too big, and unable to lose significant weight. oh dear -

@@innwtitdtity I am from the the same surgical group as you, Dr Krueger is highly respected. I had Dr Collachio. I am 9 days post op, so only completed the Psych Classes last month. We were given a very firm discussion on the practice "rules", which as you know, said no drinking for 1 year. Our Psych then went on to discuss, rather emotionally the increased possibilities of alcoholism after our surgery. She even went so far as to recommend not drinking again, ever. Apparently a former patient had just died that day, as a result of drunk driving, and our Psych was very affected. But she also explained many other patients who were also struggling with drinking after surgery. I understand that struggle all to well as I am a recovering alcoholic, sober 11+ yrs. In fact my research on the co addictions had kept me from exploring surgery sooner. I like to think that I have a healthy fear. and I feel knowledge is ammunition. Just research Alcohol and RNY, there are lots and lots of cases and evidence to help you make an informed choice. For me, I know that if I do not choose the first drink, I will never have to worry about any others. just my two cents.

Tiny pouch?
SavorySweet replied to ReadyFourChange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love how we all handle things so differently. I feel like i am so out of touch with my pouch fullness. I am nine days postop, I have had no trouble eating a 5oz yogurt, Im worried that my pouch is too BIG and that I'll never lose the weight! I was hoping for more of an obvious restricted feeling. wanna trade? -

So Im 9 days post op, and I went back to work yesterday and again today and prob will tomorrow too. I work at a cafe, around every kind of food. It has been a bit challenging, and certainly, I am moving a bit slower. But the biggest struggle is remembering to put me and all my needs at the top of my list. like timing of vitamin doses and hydrating enough.... and Lord knows hoping to have enough energy to walk too. I didn't expect that all to be so difficult. Before I would have just downed a 16oz water in 5mins and chewed up my vitamins and gone back to work. EVERYThing takes so much more time now. -

I stopped taking my pain meds, they were making me soon sick. I have been able to take Tylenol, ground up (tastes nasty) I have ordered some liquid acetaminophen. It has managed to keep my pain at bay. Hope that you feel better soon. -

Since your surgery, what are some of the things you struggle with? How do you cope?
SavorySweet replied to BostonStrong617's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 6 days out. I am struggling with getting moving, I feel couch bound. And definitely having trouble with getting all my fluids in. Tomorrow is my one week check in with the Nurse Practitioner, I am hoping that I'll be cleared to return to light duty work. -
Its all going to move really fast now! Congrats!

Wow! That sounds so delish! Thanks for the inspiration! Im 2 days behind you and I am going to have to check my cleared foods, and see what I can whip up tomorrow (day 6) Its been so nice to follow you. My pain did alleviate a bit today, Although I had a couple of bouts of terrible night sweats last night. That hasn't happened to me since before I quit drinking (11+ yrs ago). I'm responding far better to ground tylenol then any of the prescribed pain relievers (terrible nausea). scale finally started to move (beyond pre-sugery #) today. -

Post Surgery water weight gain...
SavorySweet posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can anyone tell me how long this Water weight hangs around? Surgery was on Thursday May 7, just sent home today, Saturday May 9. I had heard of this dreaded weight gain, but frankly I didn't expect it to stick around so long. Can anyone share their experience? Of course I'm starting to feel as if I'll be the only person having undergone a Roux En Y gastric bypass and not able to lose weight. Certainly emotional fears not based in reality. Thanks for the support of this forum, I do not go through this experience alone. -
On my way in in 20 mins. it's getting real now!
-
Thanks for sharing your journey. I'm leaving for surgery in 8 hours???? You've made me feel so much better

So Good. Please tell me that there will be at least some breast reduction via weight loss. I'm expecting to have to do some surgery, but I'm hoping I am not going to still be a DDD after surgery. O.O and how do you get ins to approve? Happy for you!
