Hello everyone. I am new to this group as of today. I am a 46 year old woman, wife of 25 years and mother to five. I began my journey last January when I met with the nutritionist for the first time. My insurance required that I lose a certain percentage of body weight before qualifying me for the gastric sleeve. It was a struggle but I was finally qualified in October. I scheduled my surgery for January 7th. This way, I would be able to enjoy the holidays one last time with my family. Isn't if funny how we associate having a good time with eating? I posted earlier before I saw the suggestion to introduce myself. That post pretty much told my journey to date. Surgery -> leak -> stent -> PICC line -> TPN -> smaller stent in bigger stent -> hopeful removal of stent :) I have not been able to eat anything since 12/31/14 which is when I began the pre-op liquid diet. I have five children and still need to cook for them. At first, I wasn't hungry so it was no big deal but now I am hungry and when I smell what I am cooking, I am so tempted to eat something. I hope once the stent is removed on Friday I will be able to begin my new healthy eating lifestyle. I have struggled with my weight pretty much since I got pregnant with my first child in 1990. For many years I used pregnancy as an excuse as to why I couldn't or wouldn't lose weight. "Oh, I am going to have another baby so I might as well wait until after they're born." Well, now my baby is 14 years old so that excuse no longer flies. I was 255 when I started and when I went in for the surgery, I was 225. I am now down to 208. I asked my surgeon why the weight loss was going so slowly and he said that the TPN is high in calories and that once I am off of that, the weight should start to come off faster. Let's hope he is right. My goal in getting this surgery is to be a healthier me. I am tired of being tired all the time; Of not having enough energy to go to DC with the kids and walk around for hours; Of not being able to play softball anymore because I get out of breath from running to first base; Of taking medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. 2015 is going to be my year!! (once all this other yucky stuff is over)
