Once I have something, it is on my list in MFP. I am not obsessive about it yet but who knows how I will feel at 6 weeks out and I can begin introducing more foods. I agree with @@Babbs, as long as I am losing and I can't eat very much at this point anyway.
I do keep a close eye on fluids and my Protein daily.

I just ballpark it. I really don't think our bodies are as sensitive to the minor fluctuation as our minds are. I mean at the end of the day whats the difference between a 220 calorie piece of salmon or 240? It is a miniscule amount in the grand scheme of things.

When I tracked religiously, I wouldn't even eat at restaurants that didn't put their nutrition online. I put everything we cooked into a recipe calculator so I would know the exact calorie count and macronutrients for everything. I am vary OCD. It really drove my relatives crazy. I would literally make my parents and in-laws give me lists of not only ingredients, but BRANDS they used in any meals they prepared for us.
I resolved that after I had my sleeve, I would NOT live that way. Now I will just do occasional "spot-checks" of my food on random days to make sure I'm where I really think I am in terms of calories and Protein, and leave it at that.
I don't even have a calorie target in mind post-op. All I care about is getting in all my Protein and that's easy enough to just keep a running tally of in my head most days.

I experienced the same thing. When I got that hungry I simply allowed myself some "real" Protein. I found that string cheese and lunch meat really helped me. I would also grab a P3 protein pack if I was on the go. Those saved me lol. I think you will be fine if you follow your Dr's advice the best you can.

    Isn't it GREAT??
Sometimes when I look around at the amounts that other people are eating, I am astounded that I used to eat that much and then some. It just goes to show how little food we need to actually survive and thrive on!

Complex are very important if you exercise a lot as you need them for fuel. Protein helps repair the muscles and stos the body from breaking down muscle. Stay away from sugary carbs and remember it's ok to be on a low carb diet but bad to be on a no carb diet.

I think it's more like diet is 98% and exercise is 2%. Also, there is good evidence that exercise increases the appetite, not suppresses it.

"A provocative new study shows that a substantial number of people who take up an exercise regimen wind up heavier afterward than they were at the start, with the weight gain due mostly to extra fat, not muscle."

That is pretty good results imho. I just did my pre-op diet in February and I lost 7 lbs in 14 days. My diet was a little different then yours but very similar. I would chalk this up to win.

Ceetee13 every program is different but my nutritionist said my weight loss during the pre-op diet was very impressive. He said one guy lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks but that most people only lose about 3-4. At first I was under the impression that the weight would just fly off as well. Now I understand that 1-2 lbs a week is a healthy target. I lose somewhere between 0.5-2 lbs a week. In this instance I think slow and steady wins the race.
So far I am doing pretty well with my band. I am down about 35 lbs since the new year. I still have along way to go but I am already feeling much better. It is the simple things that I try to focus on like going up stairs and not being out of breath or buying a size smaller jeans, that kind of stuff.
It sounds like you are off to a great start and I wish you success.

Took 3 good fills before the band worked for me...some people are less, some people never find it (so I've read)

Rizzle01 reacted to Miss Mac in When did your 2nd stall hit?
One of my favorite things to tell our newbies is this:

Stalls are like lovers. Your first will probably not be your last.

Trust in the process. It works. It just is a fickle crazy maker.

I have found that even though I have been successful these last 17 months, I still investigate every new diet that comes out. I have my 18 month follow-up appointment on 6/11 and will confess to my bariatrician that I have this anxiety and a tendency to have "exercise bulemia". I feel like if I eat anything, I have to go exercise off the calories right away.

So, just stay on point with Protein first, then veg, then limited fruit.< br />
I had to give up Peanut Butter and cheese to move my most recent stall. maybe I will try those again after my panni at the end of the year. (I have to be two years out.)
Remember these basic concepts that many of us follow with the variety of plans our bariatric teams give us:
    Drink no calories.

Drink Water until your eyeballs float - 64 - 80+ ounces per day.

Don't eat anything made in a factory. You can do this by shopping the perimeter of the supermarket and avoid the aisle unless you need a spice or paper towels...that kind of stuff.

Eat at least 60 ounces of Protein per day, and at any meal, eat your protein first - then veg - then fruit.

Dessert should be something like an apple, not apple pie with two scoops of ice cream.

Avoid sugar, grease, and salt as much as possible. Eating clean will help you discover the real taste of natural food. If it weren't for sugar, grease and salt, McDonald's would have no business. When I gave up candy bars and started eating dark chocolate, I realized that it wasn't the chocolate I missed - it was the sugar.

Try to wean yourself off of soda and diet soda. Many bariatric plans discourage soda pop and anything with bubbles post-op.

Reduce starchy carbs like bread, flour, sugar, rice, noodle, biscuits, white potatoes, macaroni, spaghetti etc.

So what is left to eat? meat, eggs, cheese, Beans, Peanut Butter, yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts, and fresh fruits and non-starchy veggies. You can adjust your current recipes to reduce carbs. The World According to Eggface is a good place to start. We have a forum here for recipes. Also, Sparkpeople.com and Myfitnesspal.com.

Many of us use Myfitnesspal.com for logging our food every day. It is really an eye-opener if you are honest with yourself about what you eat.

Weigh and measure your food to accurately acknowledge your actual portion size. There is a scientific principle that says, "You cannot control that which you do not measure."

Exercise where you can. Move your body every day. Don't become part of the sofa. Good luck, and get going!

Rizzle01 reacted to TheProfessor in What does restriction feel like?
    Hi MR1227!
"Restriction" is a 4-letter word to a lot of bariatric surgical teams, including mine in Toronto. I've followed all the rules but I have to say, I love the sensation of restriction. When I first heard the word I was confused to what it meant. I was nervous that it was the same as 'constriction'. Tightness. Yikes. I was nervous that when you are banded you feel some kind of blockage.
These were all questions I had until a couple of months after being banded. Then I was like, "Oooohhh... now I get it!"
First - its SATIETY you're after - the length of time you go between meals with the absence of hunger - not 'restriction'. Pair those two together though, and for me, it's a marriage made in heaven.
Now that I'm in the Green Zone, I finally understand what restriction feels like. Have to say, 4-letter word or not, I love it. Restriction is just like CherieRyde and Rizzle01 say - you feel 'done' with food. You have a nice few, slooooow bites of chicken, some green Beans, a bite of salad, and a thumbnail sized chunk of cheese and WHAM. You feel like you have no more interest in food. And that's your hunger done for hours.
Where once I could have eaten a rack of ribs and half a cup of coleslaw, now, with restriction, I can eat 2 ribs, a tiny salad and I'm done.
Restriction is the same kind of feeling when you push your plate away after eating thirds at Thanksgiving dinner, but without the fullness and discomfort. You are NOT full - you are happily sated. You feel you need not a single bite more.
You are only 2 weeks post-op, so you are still healing. You will likely begin feeling your hunger coming back a little, but as you add mushy foods, soft foods, then solid foods back into your diet, you'll likely find yourself eating a lesser quantity of food. All that is normal.
Eventually you will begin getting band adjustments (some call them "fills") that will increase the pressure of your band. This will likely increase your sense of how much you can eat. (Restriction).
It should be stressed that you can cheat the band. You may get a signal from your body that you simply no longer need anymore food (this is the band working!) but you can easily ignore that signal and continue eating.
The signal you are looking for is called a 'SOFT STOP'. It could be a sigh, pushing your plate away, puffing your cheeks out, a little burp... everyone is different. As soon as you get that signal, put your fork down and STOP EATING!
Be patient - you will get there!
