Topical pain relievers......and ongoing relief from arthritis down the road ?
Blue1213 replied to Dub's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doc gave me Voltaren. It's a gel you run on. I don't use it as often as I should. Maybe someone else can speak to its effectiveness. -
It seems like the advancement stages vary from doctor to doctor. So I was on full liquids for 3 weeks and puréed for 3 weeks. But I didn't have to do a protein shake diet in advance, thank goodness!! ????
-
I tried a scrambled egg during the purée stage which was 3 weeks after surgery. It sat like a brick in my stomach. But It never made me nauseous. I found poached eggs went down much better at that stage. I now eat scrambled eggs at 3 months with no problems.

How did you choose your doctor?
Blue1213 replied to semausmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose the hospital in my area that had a bariatric program. It's a well respected hospital and they recommended a surgeon to me. I went in thinking I wanted a lap band and he quickly persuaded me into getting the sleeve. Really glad I did. I don't think he even performs lap band surgery anymore, just removals. -
Looking for convenient protein foods
Blue1213 replied to Malagal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pistachios- I find the time it takes to open them slows me down and I'm full when I finish 1/2 cup of pistachios in the shell. Plus they're healthy for you. http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/benefits-eating-pistachios-1507.html -

Self-pay sleeve along with insurance paid hernia
Blue1213 replied to Tony Patz's topic in Insurance & Financing
Who is your surgeon? I'm also having my surgery in Houston.I'm actually in The Woodlands area. I used Dr Balette. Below is his website. Since I was self pay it went very quickly. I had my surgery at the end of March. Dr Balette is awesome. http://www.sgotw.com Oh, nice! I'm scheduled to have surgery on the 19th. Closer to SW houston, though.Good luck! I hope your surgery goes well. I had no problems with recovery. Maybe one day of feeling gross. No issues with food. Only the Vitamins make me nauseous so I have to take them with yogurt. I'm so happy I had the surgery. -

I can't keep vitamins down
Blue1213 replied to MrsJones's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me too when I first started vitamins. Now, even though they are chewable, I crush them first and put it on top of my yogurt. Kinda gross but tolerable and it's ruined yogurt for me but I don't get nauseous. -
They have the absolutely best potato soup there!

Self-pay sleeve along with insurance paid hernia
Blue1213 replied to Tony Patz's topic in Insurance & Financing
Well I can give you my surgeon's name if you are interested. He's the one that suggested to me I buy the eggs and milk together. ???? But he's in the Houston area -
I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as the sleeve surgery. No problems at all with recovery. I didn't even know I had a hernia as I had no symptoms.

Self-pay sleeve along with insurance paid hernia
Blue1213 replied to Tony Patz's topic in Insurance & Financing
If you have a hernia and your insurance covers that surgery how is it insurance fraud? Your surgeon is doing two procedures at one time, one that is covered by insurance and one that is not. You are entitled to stay in the hospital after a hernia repair so why shouldn't insurance pick up some of the cost? -

Blue1213 replied to Tony Patz's topic in Insurance & Financing
I live north of Houston and had this done. My insurance does not cover WLS so I paid the surgeon his fee and then paid a reduced price for the hospital and anesthesiologist because my insurance covered the hernia repair. I had no symptoms of a hernia but the doctor sent me for a barium swallow because he knew it would cut down on the cost. Grand total $8950 -
Surgery Buddies, who was sleeved 3/25/15 or that week
Blue1213 replied to tamelntre's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first real food I had after full liquids was scrambled eggs. I was so looking forward to them and they were a big let down. Kind of tasteless and sat like a brick in my stomach for hours. I now eat soft poached eggs no problem, delicious! I've since gone out to eat with family and had potato Soup and it was so good! -

I had a tiny bit of soft flour tortilla. I wondered too if corn would be better. -

Blue1213 replied to tamelntre's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I was sleeved on 3/25 too. I lost 30 pounds the first 4 weeks but haven't lost anything in the last 2. I'm trying not to get discouraged since 30 lbs is a lot in a month. I can move on to soft foods now. I haven't had much trouble with any food yet. Some things seem to sit in my stomach for a long time like egg salad. I did eat a little bit of tortilla and it sat like a brick for hours. No tortillas for a while! -
Surgery switched from Band to Sleeve
Blue1213 replied to Jb1176's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm so relieved my doctor talked me out of the band. Seems like there are lots of complications. I'm 3 weeks post op with the sleeve and no problems at all
