You won't believe this NSV
Blue1213 replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is weirdly a great NSV! I was in a car accident before my sleeve surgery and had two broken ankles and refused to go in the ambulance. I was horrified thinking about getting on the stretcher and the EMTs lifting me up. 130 lbs less I wouldn't worry about it now. -
Did anyone have a hiatal hernia pre-surgery?
Blue1213 replied to katanne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a hiatal hernia and got the sleeve and hernia repair at the same time. No issues but I didn't have any symptoms before from the hernia. Very easy recovery for me -
Do it!! I kept wanting to back out and my sister just kept telling me to take it step by step. I had one day after surgery were I felt kinda beat up but not really nauseous or in pain. Then everyday I felt a little better. It's been 11 months and I've lost 130 lbs. The crazy feeling of wanting to stuff myself has gone away. Controlling what you eat becomes much easier after surgery. Don't back out!!

Self pay and could cry over the amount, couple of questions
Blue1213 replied to mmorris4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery in the Houston area. Self pay was originally going to be $15k but because I had a hernia repaired my insurance picked up some of the hospital and anesthesia cost. So I paid upfront about $9,000. I paid the surgeon, hospital and anesthesiologist all separate and that was the total -

No I haven't heard of that one. Good? I'll look it up now. -
Another entertainment thread...Podcasts
Blue1213 replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used to be addicted to This American Life and Freakinomics. Now I listen some but not as much. Now I listen to Savage Lovecast. That's for those that may be left leaning and like love and sex advice. It's interesting listening to callers problems. I totally agree about Serial season 1. I couldn't get enough. -
Tv/ Book suggestions....and questions...
Blue1213 replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you like history, for reading I would recommend The Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Fay. That's the first one in a trilogy. It's a mystery with great characters and takes place in New York in 1845 when the police force was just staring. I really enjoyed it. I'm always looking for something good to read. -
Early 2016 - what are you streaming on netflix, amazon etc?
Blue1213 replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Lounge
I just heard that the Stephen King book 11/22/63 is a new tv show on Hulu. I highly recommend the book and am really curious about the show. I think it starts in February. -
I just discovered that Popeyes the fast food restaurant sells blackened chicken tenders. No breading. They are so good. 170 calories for 3 tenders and 26g of Protein. 2g of carbs I think. Don't let them give you a biscuit though. I got one planning on throwing it away. It looked better than Michael Fassbender and I think he looks pretty darn good!
-
I'm not sure if they are new or not. But they are listed on their website. When I went I didn't really see them on the menu but I asked for the blackened chicken tenders and they had them. They are really good. Give 'em a try. No biscuit though!

Dang jess9395! Now I'm not thinking about that biscuit at all!

Apprehensive feeling when asked "how much have you lost?"
Blue1213 replied to goblue9280's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I get uncomfortable when people ask and some of them will press when I try not to answer. I've started going onto a website called ilostwhat.com. It will give you a real life example of the weight lost. So for example 100 lbs is a 2 month old horse. So you can just say I lost a 2 month old horse. (It stops at 100 so I've been saying I lost a horse plus whatever extra thing if that makes since) -
SELF PAYERS...please give me your insight
Blue1213 replied to SHANA55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon suggested we check for a hiatal hernia. I had one with no symptoms, which can be pretty common. My insurance picked up part of the cost for the hospital stay and anesthesiologist. It reduced the amount I had to pay from about $15,000 to $9,000. I had surgery in the Houston area. -
Struggle to keep down multivitamins
Blue1213 replied to nikisa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I had to take a chewable they made me sick. I had to crush them and mix in with my yogurt. Now I take capsules and have no problems. But mixing them with yogurt did the trick. I ate just enough of the yogurt to finish the vitamin and would save the rest. -
Anyone try an Oatmega bar? 14 grams of Protein. http://givebar.com/products

Thanks!

HELP! (No, it's not really THAT dramatic????)
Blue1213 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I live in Houston and after many years they opened a Krispy Kreme recently. I was driving by the area wondering about all the traffic. Turns out the line just to turn in was two miles long. KK is serious stuff around here. So to resist a box in your house takes some serious willpower! -
Birthday food suggestions
Blue1213 replied to Katsitsyahawe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery 3 weeks before my birthday. My family took me to a frozen yogurt shop. I could only eat a tiny amount but it felt like a celebration and a birthday treat. -
Dannon Lite & Fit Greek. But not the strawberry or cherry. Those have chunks. Toasted coconut, key lime and strawberry shortcake are good. The banana is good too. It seems like some stores will carry only certain flavors so I have to shop around for the kind I like.

When don't start adding....
Blue1213 replied to christinekerib's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 6 months post op and eat nuts as a snack. They may be high in calories and fat but it's good fat especially cashews, almonds and pistachios. Plus a decent amount of protein. I just always measure out one serving so as not to overeat. More than 1 oz and too many calories. I think I started adding nuts back at about 3 months. -
A hospital near me had a bariatric program. I contacted them first and I had to either go to a seminar or watch a video. After I did that, they checked on my insurance and recommended a surgeon. My insurance did not cover it which I was prepared for. But if they had, the hospital bariatric coordinator would have let me know the requirements.

Pain in legs ankles and feet
Blue1213 replied to Chylyn7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had ankle surgery a year ago and sleeve surgery about 5 months ago. My weight loss has not helped my ankle. It still swells and I'm convinced it's something I have live with. Compression socks help A LOT! They help with the swelling and my legs and ankles don't feel achy at the end of the day. When I first started wearing them I was so excited because they feel so good, not tight. Kinda of pricy but there are several web sites that sell cute compression socks. -
Orthostatic hypotension is kicking my Butt!
Blue1213 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This has started happening to me and I'm almost 6 months post op. I figured it was due to low blood pressure. It is very annoying. I also had it happen years ago when I lost a bunch of weight and the doc wasn't concerned then. Howard Stern has talked on the air about how because he's so tall and has low blood pressure he has dizzy spells when standing up.
