How often do you weigh yourself?
AELee replied to spunkyheather's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 2/20/2015 Height 5'2", age 51 HW: 297 SW: 267 My lowest weight was 149, I went back up to 165 CW: 157-today I've been back and forth from 155 to 157 I weight myself daily and yes sometimes this habit becomes exhausting. But, this is also the time I know I'm getting off track, I become exhausted because I've either had a gain or the scales haven't moved in months and I know I have to accept this and take responsibility for the bags of candy I've eaten or the greasy fast food I told myself wouldn't hurt even though I know it does. This is the time I start taking responsibility and purging my life of foods i'm not responsible enough to keep in my house. So yes weighing everyday is a must for me. I also walk 3 to 5 miles per day. -
Days off work after sleeve surgery
AELee replied to shirleyjohn001's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most doctors will tell you it depends on you. I went back to work 4 days later after my Gastric Sleeve. I wanted to go back the next day but my parents were having a hissy fit so I stayed home. I sit all day at my current job. My doctor said it was fine for me to go back as long as I didn't lift anything over 10 lbs., got up and moved at least every ½ hour and made sure I sipped my water as prescribed. -
I agree, Aria is not very good at measuring BF. Mine goes as high as 44.7 down to 33 from day to day.

Khaled, my scheduled appointment with my bariatric surgeon was on a Monday, Saturday morning, I was perfectly fine, feeling good actually, by that afternoon, I felt like I had been beat with a bat. Sunday, I felt worse and the coughing started, no cold symptoms, just coughing and fatigue. I went to see my Bariatric surgeon in May for a pre-scheduled visit. I was complaining of severe fatigue, upper back pain and chest pain when I bent over , plus coughing. He sent me immediately to the emergency room because he though my sleeve was leaking. Come to find out, I had multiple blood clots in both lungs and had developed pneumonia in the left lung. My clots were from DVT but there was no discoloration on my legs. The point is check with your doctor, don't wait like I did. That's what they are there for.

Wow, I'm still in the phase of worrying that I will not lose enough weight. I had the Gastric Sleeve 5 months and 9 days ago (2/20/2015). I'm 5'3" and initially ballooned up to 285 lbs. I got myself down to 277 lbs. before I started the Bariatric program. By surgery day I was 267 lbs. today, I am 193 lbs. and I still don't feel I'm losing the excess weight fast enough. Although, I have have had 2 co-workers (*itches) tell me I look like I'm sick) they don't know I've had surgery but they pointed to my face and told me I look like I've had a stroke. I admit my upper half has lost a lot of weight compared to my middle. These people see me exercising around the office everyday and they can tell I've lost weight. Some people are just prone to being negative.

Being female makes me more prone to anemia than most men; however, I was a little anemic so the doctor just had me take Iron pills for a while. I have developed a constant low potassium level. I ended up in the hospital due to excessive coldness and severe fatigue. My potassium was extremely low, I had developed blood clots in both lungs and pneumonia in the left lung 3 months post op. Go figure, pre-sleeve I had zero medical problems and no pills to take, just a BMI well over 40. Now I take extra Vitamin D, Iron, Potassium and anticoagulants.

8 days post op gurgling?
AELee replied to meggieo79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 months post-op and my stomach is doing it right now. Just had a protein shake for breakfast. I also have excessive saliva build-up and spitting too. -
I would give anything for a Diet Coke...
AELee replied to Psychsnob's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel your pain! When was your surgery, I'm 5 months out and do not crave much of anything. I was a Coca Cola addict. It was nothing for me to drink cokes all day seeing that McDonald's is right across the street from my job. I generally averaged (4) 20 oz at work and another 2 to 3 (2 liters) when I got home. The colder the better. And yes my acid re-flux was getting worse by the minutes. It was funny tho, right after surgery I craved eggplant Parmesan. I mean I would dream about it to the point of salivating. Funny thing is, I never had it before. -
I will be 5 months out 7/20, I have lost inches everywhere but my hips. I've gone from a DD cup to a C cup. I went from a 26/28 women's down to a 14. But these hip are hanging on for dear life. They have lost a few inches but nothing compared to the rest of my body. Stating wt 285-- HT 5'3" DOS 2/20 Wt. was 267, today 198. I think it's just a natural thing with WLS patients to be impatient with losing weight/inches. FYI, I'm a horrible protein drinker, can't stand the stuff. but for the last couple of days I have forced it down my throat. 2½mos after surgery I developed blood clots in both lungs and pneumonia in the left lung which delayed my workout routine. When I was jogging/walking everyday for at least a mile, the inches were melting away. Now I'm at a stand still. Have started exercising vigorously again this past week.

Breast smaller due to weight loss
AELee replied to byebyefat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, more than likely, I was busting out of a 44DD, I went down to a 44C cup at 2½ months out, bought 2 new bras and now they are too big . I will wait before I buy anymore, lesson learned. LOL -
I don't know, I was exactly 3 months post op May 20th, I still have a hard time getting 4 oz of anything in other than water. When I try, I end up pacing in front the bathroom waiting for the severe pain in my chest to subside or the vomit to come. I talked to my nutritionist and she just suggest I try other foods. She was suppose to send me a menu she was going to make up, but of course it never came. I have since made an appointment with the bariatric surgeon who did my sleeve. I hear about so many people eating chicken, and cooking actual meals. I feel like I'm stuck between a liquid and soft foods place. I have lost 57 lbs. since February 20th; but getting a handle on the food thing is becoming tiresome.

The first bit of clothing was work out clothes. I purchased them immediately. I figured if they were a bit small I would shrink into them. I had my surgery February 20th ,2015 so It was cold, I hate the cold, so no one was going to see me in them because I stayed in the how on my spinner and treadmill. They are getting too big but they still work for now. My mother sew so we initially sewed up the straps for my bras, that was about a month out. I went from wearing 44DD to a 44C now the 2 new bras I bough about a month ago are too big but I'm definitely going to wait before I buy anymore. Further all my tennis shoes are too big also and these sandals I'm wearing now are going to be the death of me. All I do is trip over my own feet. LOL.

Fear of STRETCHING Sleeve!
AELee replied to Fatdiva14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jamie I've eaten minute pieces of chicken but it seems too heavy or coarse for my stomach right now. I tolerate tuna well and salmon if cooked properly. No steak or beef yet. I love eggs but scrambled still working on that soft scrammbled technique. It seems the moment I start to chew that gurgguling starts in my stomach and if I continue to eat I get the pain and then vomiting. I was told to try deli meats but I didn't do well at all. In fact they were the worst. I tied shrimp and did very well with them but who eat shrimp slow. LOL I also do good with cooked spinach. Any suggestions is appreciated. -

A lot of people say they felt tired after the initial surgery. I did not, in fact I felt normal. I started exercising the 2nd day. Could have done it day one but was scared I would mess something up. I had my Sleeve Feb 20, 2015. Around March 12th, I started to get extremely tired. I mean every evening, I'm dozing and fighting sleep as I drive home. Then I started dozing and losing focus behind the wheel going to work. The tiredness has gotten a little better since I started taking iron pills, but not by much. I admit I'm bad with the protein, mostly because I loathe it very very much. Furthermore if I drink all the protein I'm suppose to, I would never eat food. I just wouldn't be hungry. As of now I'm only getting about 375 calories in per day. I know that's low but with the protein, I'm just not hungry and when I try to force it, I get horrible pain right between the breast and usually it will come back up. I need the protein but it's keeping me from eating. On top of the tiredness is anyone extremely cold? I'm cold all the time. I'm sleeping with my sweater and hoodie on. House temperature is between 73 and 76. This is definitely unusual for me. I'm the girl who use to walk out in the snow barefoot. Never owned a actual winter coat until this year. Well I see my doctor 4/21 hopefully he has some answers and solutions for me. If anything is useful about the tiredness, I'll share it.

Sugar free-Popsicle's are the truth. Mostly humans have a need to chew their food. The crunch and chewing alleviates the hunger fast. I rather have them then the damn Protein or yogurt or even the plain oatmeal my group was told to eat. I mean who eats plain oatmeal- no sugar, no milk, no nothing. The good news is after surgery you won't be hungry.

Fear of STRETCHING Sleeve!
AELee replied to Fatdiva14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fatdiva I too have fears of not loosing enough weight. I walk, jog, spin, and treadmill everyday, sometimes 3 times a day. I always burn more calories than I take in which has never been more than 350 calories. I had my surgery Feb 20, 2015. From day one I have struggled to get my Protein in. I absolutely cannot stand the taste and I've tried many different types and in may different ways, (in food, as a shake, with crystal lite, yada yada yada). I just hate it. I pretty much hate most sweets now. The taste of sugar makes me spit all day, yuk. I see my doctor tomorrow because I'm at a lost as to what to eat or do. I eat so slow that Breakfast always runs into lunch. One, I've never been a breakfast person; so, it is difficult to eat breakfast because I'm never hungry in the morning, for 49 years I've skipped breakfast. I pretty much can't stand another cup of yogurt. Now I'll have 1 Sargento Pepper Jack cheese stick and Water. I've always loved ice cold water, wish I could drink it like I use to, but my stomach says no way, can't drink fast. Any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated. I feel so confused right now and at a lost. Scared to death that I'm not even going to loose anymore weight. Further, how many calories should I be eating per day anyway. I can never get a straight answer out of the nutritionist. -
3 month weigh in (A little late because Doctor canceled visit)
AELee commented on MariaW's blog entry in MyJournry with Sleeve surgery
Hi Maria, My name is Aleshea, I don't think you have too much to worry about, after all you have dropped under the 200 lb mark. I have the same fears as you do; I feel as if I haven't lost enough. I started at 267 (5' 3") and am now 248. I've lost 19 lbs. My surgery was February 20, 2015. I use to weigh myself too without clothes; but, now I put on my bra, panties, top and pants or dress before weighing myself because that's the way the doctor is going to weigh me. I don't believe I'm eating right. I can't stand another protein shake therefore I'm skipping meals altogether especially since I'm not hungry. When I try to eat, 2 spoons or forks in, the gurgling and bubbling in my stomach gets bad. Just like you my first visit with the doctor after surgery was canceled, I'm now rescheduled for the 17th of March. Everyone and every body is different, those that are losing weight fast may also plateau faster. That 1 lb you gained could be a matter of standing on the scale slightly different or an uneven part of the floor. Well let's hope our doctors don't cancel the next appointment; we both seem to have a lot of questions that need answers.
