    Ladies In Charlotte - Update

Thanks for all the well wishes. My daughter will actually be in preschool during my surgery time. I was actually thinking of in the evening if I wanted her to come to spend the night at the hospital because of the distance between gastonia and concord. I figure something will work out. I got mixed reviews someone told me to have my husband there at the night time to help with bathroom runs and stuff. Then the same person told me to send them home and keep them on schedule. WHich should I do. I do know if my husband comes home wednesday night then thursday morning daughter can go back to preschool and he will be free to spend the day with me. It's just alot of driving. My understanding right now is that i will be in the hospital 3 days. I hope it goes quick. I'd love to get a portable dvd play to take there to pass some time. I got an Ipod to bring too. And books, magazines. I might go stir crazy being in the room alone for too long. I am hoping to come saturday, we've got one car on the fritz so I'll see what I can do. Maybe Mrs Sabe would let me ride out with her.

    Insurance

The insurance depends on your policy, everyone is different. At huge corp where I work they cover lap band and rny with UHC. THey don't offer blue cross and blue sheild. As for the 'price' the dr's office should be able to give you the price, don't forget insurance companies negotiate 'huge' discounts with dr's so what tehy pay is usually way less than someone paying cash.

Kathy, Thanks for your opinion. I haven't done any research yet for this post op birthcontrol. I know from the paperwork pills and Patches don't work for rny patients. I am not ready to have my tubes tied, and i'm not sure I want to have anymore kids. I'm only 32 so I have a few more good years, my husband thinks once I lose this weight I will feel so great that age won't matter. I'm unsure though. My mom was 40 when she had me and it was a rough upbringing, she was sick all the time and past away two years ago when I turned 30. I was parentless at 30. It makes me sad too that icannot share this with her. She would be dead set against it altering our bodies in any ways.

    Waiting...

I'm waiting for my date, I'm trying to be patient. Dr B uses a computer program where you can go in and check on the progress. They called Friday to tell me my Iron levels were low and I needed a supplement. I asked the girl, do you have my date yet? She called me so it was fair game. SHe informed me that there were a few inconsistancies. So, maybe tomorrow I"ll have a date for my RNY. Other joke, I've been taking my daughter's Vitamins because they are easy to take as opposed to the women's brand. Well the joke was on me, there is no iron in her vitamins. SO, I've been thinking I Was helping myself only to find out, I've gotten zero iron in months. THese blood tests were drawn in august, so they are a little old. I got a supplement this morning at walmart. Ugh....

I figure I"ll look into birthcontrol after I get my surgery date scheduled. I was thinking of getting an IUD because awsome insurance, UHC pays for that too. Do you have any opinion's on IUD's. Really, I think one child is fine for me. OUr situation is this, dh hasn't worked full time in 2 years, he's in grad school, I want to go back to school in the fall, dh will begin kindergarten in the fall, so we got alot going on. I think were going to leave her in the christian school for kindergarten. She's been at a christian preschool since she was 3 and it's a good fit. I wanted to move to belmont/mt holly but right now, were just beginning to reap some benefits, ie weight loss surgery, renting a house that's affordable, so I think moving will wait until DH has a teaching job. yes, he's crazy enough to want to be an elementary school teacher. I know dr b gave me a whole bunch of stuff at my consultation about weight loss abd birthcontrol, but I decluttered them into the trash. I need to get new copies when I go for my consult. It should be anytime now. Dragon I hope your daughter is better, I know what a challenge being sick can be, I was always sick when I was little. It didn't help that at any given time 8 people would be smoking in our house. Yuck.

Oh, the 27 thing fling, never heard of it till now. I guess I do this on a regular basis. Our worse pack rat is my husband, he still has trinkets nad things from high school. Like over a decade ago. It's funny because when we moved from NY to NC we downsidzed, atleast i did. He's still got so much junk. I frequently have the same problem, I go to throw stuff out and it gets unpacked. I usually have a sell pile, because I sell alot of stuff at work, a good will pile, and a garbage pile. Dh lost 80 pounds 2 years ago, guess what the big boy clothes were still lurking. THey are gone now. I packed three huge bags for the good will. Why did it take 2 years to get rid of this stuff, it was all nice, but come on, he's determined to never be overweight again in his life. I packed all my plus sized summer clothes to 'give away' to a fellow weight loss person when I lost my weight. They are all in great shape, I would sell them at work but I don't want people to know what my 'real size' was. It's too personal. My one goal is to sell/donate all the baby stuff I've been keeping. By the time I have another child none of this stuff will be stylish or what we like. Funny thing, I've luged it around for 5 years and now it's time to declutter. I also used to own my own home so we moved our stove and fridge with us. Tomorrow someone from work is coming to look at the stove so we can sell it to them. Guess what, we have a fridge but it broke, I'm probably going to offer it to them free just to get it out of here. They would just have to pay to fix it. I guess I better quit writing. I hope to have a date scheduled for my RNY in the next few weeks.

    Charlotte January Chat Time

Angie - don't look at it like losing an organ, I don't think gall bladders qualify. I had mine out in 2004 and my appendix, so I'm good to go post op RNY. I had a really hot dr too during the gallbladder surgery. Your in good hands, your recovery might be similar to the lap band and you'll be up and moving in no time. Will you spend the night at the hospital? I did only because I get sick for anesthisa and I had a 3 year old at the time. Jennifer

    Doctor Called

Karen - This is great news. I hope things move very fast in 2006. I am still rolling along, but still having the should I shouldn't I things. Reality check, I need to lose this massive weight. I'm sick of people at work telling me you don't 'look' that heavy, well i feel that heavy. especially when my spine is hurting from herniated disc's and my blood pressure is out of control again. SO, yes, if they saw me naked, they'd scream, because when I get dressed in the morning. I am still fat. I see it and it looks back at me. Thank god I have my curls in my hair to distract me.... I'm glad ot hear you will have a dr that will fight for you too. WIll you be staying overnight when you have this surgery? Merry Christmas.

    Went to the Doctor

Good Luck with the Gall Bladder, I had mine out in 2004, so I know this will be one challenge I won't have to face. I hope Dr B can do it for you, if not Gastonia SUrgical is pretty good, they took out mine. I felt like my recovery was adequate. I do take all the paid time off I can from work too because I don't have ANY help, we are riding solo in NC.

    I'm a bandster!

Congrats Magic - This is wonderful. I'm going to have surgery with Dr Bauman too, just waiting for the final paperwork reports for my chart and then I should/will have a date, I do know I"m preapproved so alot of the anxiety is gone. Merry Christmas.

    Saturday Dec 17th

Sorry, I won't be comming. I have a dr's appointment this morning and I gotta tend to this. Kim is right though, i'm kinda scared off, since i'm the odd ball. Maybe I could get together with a couple of the people from the co where I work and start there. I"m just so uncomfortable with new situations. Please bear with me during this. Jennifer

    Curtis...

This is awsome. I"m glad Curtis is doing well. I'm sure Kim is exhausted.
  17. You still all cannot be tired from your thanksgiving dinner and black friday shopping. This board is too quite. I know i'm having RNY but I had my upper GI wednesday and everything went fine. Drinking the barium was the worse part of everything. I hope everyone is well. I still have a birthday party to get ready for, disney on ice, and hopefully some rest. Well see what happens. Have a great weekend. Jennifer

    Where is Everyone....

We went to disney on ice today - everything was way expensive. We got a snowcone and cotton candy. I love cotton candy. Today is my husbands birthday, saturday is my daughter's birthday party, monday the 12th is my final testing date to finish for surgery, then I should have a date. The 12th is also my daughter's birthday. I think we have a busy week that week, with a school christmas pagent. Then the weekend we should put up our tree. I need to finish shopping for my daughter too. Ugh. I dislike the december birth/xmas set up. She always winds up with so much. Off topic - anyone having allergy problems? Mine are out of control, the flonase isn't working and clarinex has been dropped by my health insurance. I gotta figure out something, claritin doesn't work either. Will these get better after surgery? Jennifer

    Where is Everyone....

Dragonwilo - I'm sorry your having trouble with the restriction. I"m so unsure how all that works. Have you talked with anyone about this? I'm not sure what issue I will face losing weight. Since I have been overweight all my life I don't what it's like to be thin. I wanted to point out too, not sure who it was a while back but I'm not in competition for losing the most weight. I'm sure I will struggle just like each of you. I am getting nervous. I'm finishing my appointments psych computer test and nutrionist on the 12th. I am so excited. I hope to have my surgery in Jan. I am a planner so I gotta have my babysitting in line and daycare. I am going to try to come on the 17th. I am unsure if I have anything I must do that day except an ENT appointment. Take Care, Jennifer

    Where is Everyone....

Kim, I'm sorry about your son. Did you just find out about the division being sold. My division will probably be affected by the 'india' thingie that was in the paper thursday. I really know everything will be fine with your son. I'm sure he's in good hands. I am really sorry that your going through such a tough time. Please keep us updated. Merry Christmas.... Jennifer

    Update

No Karen, the dr's office didn't make it in time. I was all set to switch out and I didn't get a timely return call. I guess it's meant to be. There's thousands of people at work, we can find some so you get a date soon. Have you called your insurance? I didn't receive any documentation yet, but the dr's office did.
  22. jttaurus

    Still working on it!

Congrats - did they mention anything like weight studies or anything? That might be the only thing that holds you back. They move quickly at dr bauman's office. I was told the psych review takes the longest to get back from northeast. You might need to stay ontop of that .

    Update

Did you have your approval yet judith? I'm just curious. What stage are you in. I wanted to share a quick story my paper work was sent to UHC on a Thursday and I got my approval - verbally when i called them for my approval. So. If your with UHC it should be a breeze depending on how much documentation they needed. Good Luck Karen - It's gonna happen, soon. I think you need to get some more recruits there so they can have enough patients to get this proxy done.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving - this will be my last one with a bmi of 39.1 I will much lighter next year. I hope everyone has a great time. No one has invited me for a home cooked meal so we'll have to settle on reservations. There should be a busy place over the weekend with people off work. I will be working 8 hours Friday like usual.

    Birth Control...

Do any of you guys have any experience with birthcontrol post op? I know RNY paperwork stated something about birthcontrol pills being ineffective because of the digestive changes. Anyone know about IUD's? My awsome insurance pays for this too, after copay ofcourse. I don't want a surpise pregnancy during my weight loss journey but I do want to try after about 2 more years. There goes my 5 year plan. Please let me know. Jennifer
