    VSG vs Gall Bladder Removal

My gall bladder was removed two months after band surgery. I don't recall whether one was appreciably more painful than the other. I don't remember anything about the degree of pain, but the gall bladder had to go.. I only remember that once the gall bladder began to cause discomfort, it rapidly enough progressed to the necessity for surgery. The stones had been detected 25 years earlier when what appeared to be acute appendicitis was being confirmed before I was rolled to the OR. If you're having the surgery as preventive measure and have no symptoms, I think it would be safe to wait until you can arrange coverage for work and other responsibilities. You had a easy enough VSG, but there's really no way to predict an individual's recovery time even when there is a long history of patients. If the organ has been mildly painful, you really don't want to postpone more than a few weeks. If more than mildly, go in. You don't want to hear this, but my only suggestion, not knowing your life, is that you corral everyone you know to pitch in -- work on the business, care for the animals and whatever else. You can direct without laboring. The surgeon didn't say three weeks to be mean or ruin you. It may turn out that you can at least begin resuming some normal activity sooner, but be prepared. @@CowgirlJane -- understood, but then there's the other reality. It is a dilemma.
  2. Me, again, with another suggestion. The maneuver is old and it works. People I've given it to through the years have been happy to know it. it's basic post-op and comes up often enough in one way or another in BP that it's worth including. While incisions remain sore, firmly press a bed pillow against your midsection if you need to cough, sneeze, laugh or do anything else that will jar you. The pillow will brace you and minimize discomfort.

Meal Plans and Nutrionist Vs Paperwork

@@kyear -- If you haven't done so, you might call the nutritionist to clarify the discrepancy. Your peace of mind durng the learning period is as important as getting things right. I didn't vomit in the early days, but can give you a tip related. While your incisions are still sore, firmly press a bed pillow against them if you need to cough, sneeze, laugh or do anything else that will jar your midsection. The pillow will brace you and minimize discomfort.

Surgery date 11/24 and Cigna Approved

Don't worry about the co-pay. You can do what everyone else does. Hostess cupcakes are cheap (with good reason, I might add). Eat them for each meal until you've saved enough for the co-pay. Congratulations on the successful appeal and enjoy your excitement.
  8. I opted out of emailed notices of new posts in topics I follow to avoid the frequent duplications. I expected that I'd find new posts in those topics by clicking the "New Content" tab. New posts are added to all those topics, but "new content" shows me very few of them. That is, the same few reliably appear in "new content," while most never do. Can this be remedied? Is there something I need to do to remedy it? I checked my subscription list and it's not a matter of my being mistaken as to my "follows." Anyone?

Question: problem keeping up with "followed" topics

@@CowgirlJane @@magtart Don't know if you'll see this. The blue "best answer" box may submerge it. I looked at Notifications Preferences page again and may have found my solution. I've now checked an additional box Can't remember its description, something about 'topics in followed forums.' I had checked 'replies to followed topics' earlier, but it went nowhere. Update over. Thank you.

    How often is WLS aborted?

I've never heard of surgery being cancelled. There is one person on BP who very recently wrote that she was for have either sleeve or bypass. Once inside, the surgeon determined that it was contraindicated and performed the other on the spot. I don't recall that she gave the reason. Your fear of more cancer being found is no surprise given the timing, but if that's the case, you need to know, yes? The anticipation will make you more and more miserable. If you're not taking part in a cancer support group, they do exist in person and online. I think you'd find people who could help you sort out and overcome the fear of WLS or anything else you want but are shying away from. I'm guessing that the possibility of your WLS being called of in the OR is secondary. I'm weak on the website's tech workings, but, if that's the case, perhaps you can change the title of the topic to catch the eye of people here who've had the same situation. Maybe something like "WLS soon after cancer surgery?" To find out if it can be done, scroll to the very lower left corner and click "help," where you'll find a "contact us." Alternately, start over with a new title, but keep checking this one, as people will still stop in.

    Not eating

You're needlessly making yourself unhappy. I suppose any number of things might happen if a person doesn't try foods at any given stage. Feel grumpy? Hungry? Postpone building confidence in the ability make good choices? Watch the trepidation mount proportionately to the delay? Feel one's teeth loosen for lack of use? You should be following the practice's directions. They're designed to get you to the intersection of weight loss, satiety, safety and a feeling of well-being. Like any other time, if you take a taste of something that doesn't go down comfortably, stop.

Oops, disregard my comment on this above. In my immediate paranoia cover-up, I thought you were commenting on me. A propos nothing, folks, I had a really nice day. Some nice surprises, the kind that just give a person's spirit a lift. Hope y'all had the same.

Question: Why do I get emoticon when I type "(b)?"

Is that your best shot, Cupcake? I started with the simple "fat ass," then edited to add "bully," then again to add "from down under (lower case d & u), the last part to be interpreted as one might. Then I stripped the edits, favoring the two-word 'fat ass' as the punchiest. That's right, @@4MRB4PHOTO, he's juggling about all he can handle now and then some, if you believe him.

New body brings new partners -- many new partners

@ -- Referring to the top portion of message #20 (the whole thing seems to have been messed up due to editing). That's an important piece of the history you omitted earlier. It's not unknown for partners, male and female, to feel threatened when the other person loses so much weight. They're afraid they'll be left behind when they think that the partner suddenly has the pick of the litter. It's major insecurity. Did he say as much in the therapy sessions? If so, was it significant to you? How many therapy sessions over what period of time? For my part, those are rhetorical questions, the answers to which might benefit you.

I should have been clearer. It was a woman, not a potential date for me, and she's 83. Smart as hell, witty, aware, open-minded, spirited, etc. We had a very long wait for the bus and conversation flowed in many directions. The bus ran slowly, so more time to talk. We live only 3 blocks apart, so got off together. WE had so much fun that I had an instant's thought of suggesting number exchange, something I've never done. I kept quiet, but she made the suggestion. That gave me the bit of chutzpah to suggest the coffee. Y'know, people always have the intentions, but the follow-up fizzles. If we don't get in touch, I still had a terrific encounter that made the day nicer. It really was wonderful.

    25, TX, Sleeved 10/09! Support Needed !

Also attend your surgery practice's support meetings. IT may not be only for sleeves, but sitting down with people, seeing facialexpressions, and getting tones of voice is quite a different experience. If your practice doesn't offer meetings, other hospitals in your area are likely to welcome patients not their own.

Having a period right before surgery?

@@dusky goddess -- This is the first time I've ever, ever heard "a gift." We obviously travel in different decades and, apparently different circles. Or is it a regional thing? Or just your school? When I was a teenager, girls referred to it as "my friend," which made no sense to me because (a) it was a nuisance, and ( I felt no need to tiptoe with my human friends. The girls, anyway. Another name was "the curse." I didn't use that one, either. P.S. That stupid yellow thing was typed in as a lower case "b" followed by the closing parenthesis.
