Scared to loose more than GW

Is that serious? If so, no, you should have started worrying three days ago. C'mon. You'll know where you want to be when you feel well and are pleased with your appearance. Goals, like the tides, change. A weight goal is a guideline, not a grail.

    Calcium

In general the body's need for calcium depends on gender and age. There are plenty of charts available. Apart from that, my bariatric RD told me to take 1200 daily, but no more than 600 a pop, as we don't absorb more than that in one hit. Anyone have dizziness?

I've never heard of weight loss per se as the cause of dizziness, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. There are several causes of dizziness. Some have already been mentioned. Another may be too high a level of vit. D and/or two low a level of thiamin (vit. B-1). Blood tests determine the probability. I started a topic on thiamin two days ago and included a link to info sheets from a division of NIH. You may want to check them. The post is in the food & Nutrition forum. Did you have a fall, bang your head? OP, you didn't say when or what you're doing when you feel dizzy or the degree of dizziness. If there is a pattern, it may help narrow it down. In any case, since it's been going on a few weeks, you'd do well to check in with your regular doctor.

    PB2? Tell the truth, please

I was thinking of PB2 in terms of varying shakes, but I don't even use shakes. If I end up having revision surgery, I'd hope to need them only for a short time, but it may turn out to be for the long haul, since I'd be revising to sleeve. There may have been another topic where I had cause to mention something, but I'll say it now as an aside. My very first taste of Peanut Butter occurred when I was approx mid-20's. The first thought was, "Eureka! I've found it. I shall call it 'peanut butter'." So you all can thank me for the real thing. Oh, almost forgot. I googled "pb2" earlier and found something not thrilling. Never heard of the site or the babe before...no idea if she knows her stuff. http://foodbabe.com/2012/09/16/the-truth-about-pb2-powdered-peanut-butter/

Some days my job is pretty cool

The feeling has to be exhilarating. You have a wonderful career. Want a cute little story? I was spending a winter weekend at a friend's country house in a dairy-farming area north of Manhattan. We visited a neighbor who took us down to the barn to see two 2-month old calves. As we walked in, I took off my gloves and shoved them into my coat pockets. While I was petting and cooing to one of the calves, I felt a slight nudging against my hip. At first I thought it was just one of those unexplained, brief sensations of something that isn't there. It persisted. I looked down to see the calf sucking on the glove fingers, which had been sticking out of the pocket. It was so sweet, but sad that he wanted his mommy. At another friend's place in nearby Pennsylvania, I was washing dinner dishes and watching the resident 7-month old calf romping out in the yard. When I finished, I went out to play with it. With a high energy level, it was bucking around in modified bronco style. I got close, but backed off when I realized that a 7-month old plays too rough for me.

This is funny. I feel like the girl-in-front-of-the-curtain on "Peanut Butter Dating Game." @@goplay94123, you sound reasonable and I have faith in your opinion. @@Miss Mac, every post of yours that I've ever read has been just right, not to mention often witty and smile-making. Marketing to plus-sized women = Fat-shaming. Low blow, bold response.

I hadn't thought about the origins of goods in a long time and wasn't quite clear on the "made in xyz" labels. Maybe the "made in..." refers to the place where the final piece was assembled? Labor abuses are so widespread in the world. I have no idea whether huge, American retailers have real effect when they issue policy statements on contracting with manufacturing facilities and buying only from companies whose workers have decent conditions.

    The disappearing act

Who knows what to make of that? He either met someone, lost his job or masturbated himself into a stupor and deactivated so that he could wash up? I'd like to think that, if an online stranger didn't respond to a message from me, I'd send no more and wouldn't pursue anything. I'd like to think that I'd chalk it up to his having died or some other ordinary reason.

@@Inner Surfer Girl, yes, you are very bad. Try the first link again? It works for me. Otherwise, copy into the address bar? Okay, I'll try it again here, maybe including more or less than I did the first time. http://hellogiggles.com/fashion-designer-ad-critique/ In seriousness, I only know of Ali Baba's existence as an Ebay sort of site and that the owner/founder is wealthy enough to own the People's Republic of China and Taiwan and still have money left over to take us all to lunch. Maybe I'll take a look at it some time.
  11. Blood work shows that I'm low on thiamine. My doctor told me to take 100mg daily. I'm wondering if there is more than one type and if one is better than the other(s) in terms of efficient absorption, et al. The question occurs to me because of the existence of Calcium citrate and calcium carbonate supplements, the former being better. Love to hear from someone knowledgeable. I've done some googling to no avail. Thanks.

    Blood while pooping

I'm not a physician, so if this has been going on a while, I'd say call your regular doctor. The fact that the blood is fresh may (or may not -- remember, I'm no physician) mean that the rectum is scratched. This can happen with constipation and very dry stool. Or you may have sprung a hemorrhoid. Or something else. If it were I, and remember, I'm no physician, I'd wait if it were just one incident and chalk it up to dryness. That is, as long as I had no other symptoms or signs that I might think were surgery-related.

    The disappearing act

How did you "force" people to respond? I can't even guess. Way back when I was meeting people from odd sources, i.e., anything electronic as compared to coming across someone in the course of real, live life, I made a rule for myself: I would meet only on my turf. That is, convenient t home and in a place I knew and found comfortable. Not that I wouldn't have met someone at a distance, but only if I were going to be there for my own purposes (e.g., business, visiting family or friends). Peace of mind, comfort, sense of safety, and convenience. The advent of the internet paved the way for shabby manners. People on line don't have to be seen as quite real. It's wise to take it all with a grain of salt, an entertainment when the dishes have been done and there's nothing good on TV, if you will. This isn't to say that bad manners didn't exist pre-internet. Haven't we all had encounters where follow-up was promised but not fulfilled? Men, too, have stories of dialing the phone numbers of women they met and hearing, "Hello, city dog pound."

    Thiamine (Vit. B-1) supplement question

@@swimbikerun If you take synthroid, then it isn't funny that you have trouble getting it down. It's so tiny. No idea how my D went high. My guess is humiliating to report here, but... shoot. Even though it's calcium carbonate, I'd been taking a store's private label version of Viactiv chocolate chews w/vit D. For years I was sane, one in the early part of the day, the other later on. Then in the past year, I'd eat the whole container in a few days. They're like tiny tootsie rolls, one of only two childhood candies that still taste good to me. I've been unable to control the craziness, so have stopped buying the chews. A number of years ago I was tested so low that I was in debt. I took a high dose then for a while. I'd fly to Norfolk for my G.B. visits. I suppose the toll road was put in after I stopped going, as I don't recall such a thing. Unless you mean a road that bypassed the business areas? That existed and was fairly new, I think, near the end of my visits. I don't recall a toll, though. Wasn't a replacement for the Great Bridge bridge built about 25 feet from the original? That, too, was after my time. My nieces went to Crestwood Jr High and Great Bridge High..

Wonderful experience and a cute puppy, although I don't know that I would have recognized it as a puppy had you not told the story. Are you a vet? A vet tech? An animal midwife? May I ask? It's a field I'm not familiar with and I'm curious.

Bummed out by doc's lack of enthusiasm

Darn tootin' I have thoughts, but not about the doctor. Who knows why he wasn't enthusiastic? Maybe because he had someone in tow, maybe he was running late, maybe he had a headache. The reason doesn't matter. You've had a fabulous month and should be tooting your own horn. Next time, take the new, higher number on your 29-pound thrill and wave it in his face. "Hey, Smith, I expect a little celebratory reaction from you! I'm not leaving until you acknowledge that I am an amazing work of art." In your own words, of course. Let him know who you are. Stand up to be properly fêted.

    Thiamine (Vit. B-1) supplement question

@@swimbikerun It has to do with dizziness and fuzzy-headedness. The doctor said that my low B1 and high D levels may be contributing factors. I didn't see mention of "oral problems" in the NIH link. Please explain. P.S. I spent many years going to Great Bridge a few times a year, but that ended nearly 20 years back.

    VERY FIRST APPOINTMENT/WHAT TO TAKE/EXPECT

It's an initial medical appt like any other with a little extra. No big deal. They'll want your med history, which you're already armed with. It's pretty routine for surgeons to repair a hiatal hernia when doing the WLS. To the best of my recollection, your family doctor is pretty much a formality, albeit an important one, in the entire process. The surgeon may want a letter of clearance from him/her, meaning that he/she states that you are a candidate for surgery with no conditions that would make it a mistake. In addition, it can only help your insurance approval process if a letter in support of surgery comes from the family doctor. Usually such letters/papers are submitted by the surgery practice as part of your approval request package. If you're seeing the psychologist for the psych eval that day, he/she wants to see that you understand the risks of surgery, are motivated to make the life-long changes that are necessary for life-long success, and whether you are capable of understanding and following doctor's orders. Again, no big deal, even if the psych you see gives you sheaf of questionnaires (some do for the WLS approval process). You should be given all this info and more at the appt. If not, ask just as you would any other time. If it sounds like a daunting process, it isn't. I promise that this post is far more complicated than the process. Had I more time, it would have been briefer.

    Thiamine (Vit. B-1) supplement question

@@Inner Surfer Girl@DaisyAmy@@Cervidae I posted the question in SparkPeople.com. The RD who works for the site came back with this info that you may want to know: Most thiamin supplements contain either thiamin mononitrate or thiamin hydrochloride. Both are very stable and Water soluble. For more information, go to the Office of Dietary Supplements: http://ods.od.nih.govsearch.aspx?zoom_query=thiamin Then select either or both fact sheets, consumer or professional. Beside dosage info, there's much interesting material. My doctor (first time seeing her, a neurologist) told me to supplement because of lingering dizziness/headache/effects from a concussion I sustained last May. The fact sheets don't mention concussion, but they do refer to dizziness, confusion and the like. The doctor also told me to cut out Vit. D for the same reason. The blood work showed a high number, so I'll shop for a calcium without the D.
