Pop Rocks and Coke . . . .
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to SuperSparkly72's topic in The Lounge
"That is all?" Does this mean your explorations are done? I love the chocolate shell idea. The promising experiment flopped, but at least the reason is cute enough that it's its own reward. Anything minty or with similar burning capacity -- external use only and only in places that will remain external. The same applies to Tiger Balm, which has its charms. One caveat, Pirate. Just as you're to say nothing to the 24-year old about surgery, you're to say nothing to her about your sexual capers. It's the rare person who truly wants to know that the parental figures are doing. -
Sleeve Regretters
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to mollydeez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That one phantom woman of whom you speak is not the measure of all things. Her statement indicates that she was expecting surgery to be a magical solution and had no intention of making changes. If you want to go through life expecting 100% guarantees, you'll squander your life. How tragic that would be. Forget about your mother's encounter and look within yourself. Bariatric surgery is not a cure; it is an aid. If you can find inside the desire to change your habits and take responsibility for your projects, you'll be fine. -
Going at it mostly alone
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Universoul_D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no need for long-term care. If you prepare everything you'll need after surgery, you'll be ready for just about anything and you'll probably feel greatly empowered. By everything you'll need, I mean enough Clear liquids for th time you'll be restricted to them, then enough to get you through each of the early stages on the way to solid food. Get laundry done in the days before surgery, change the sheets in the morning before you go to the hospital. Do some housecleaning before surgery. Etc., etc. Your friend will be taking you home from surgery, I hope. That's more important than taking you to the hospital. In the days after surgery, maybe you and he can check in with each other just in case you do need a hand with something. You'll be fine. -
Almost 4 months post op and pregnant
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to roxy0508's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Nothing wrong with asking here, but the subject is definitely one to discuss with your obstetrician. He/she may want to consult with your bariatric surgery practice (the RD, perhaps), in which case get them connected. As an innocent ignorant bystander, I'd say that proper nutrition for your baby comes first and weight-loss is secondary for the time being. Thanks for sharing your happy-lovely news. All the best to you. -
Surgery Cover Stories?
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to vixsummer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you've dictated what not to write here, tell people whatever you'll remember. Simple is best, as it elicits the fewest questions. By your account, the school is a gossip haven, so don't waste your time thinking it'll be any different for you. -
Burping when eating
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to LoveAlwaysKia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Burping becomes a common occurrence for many. Eating more slowly may or may not make a little difference. Saying "Excuse me" becomes common, as does rolling one's eyes to indicate embarrassment. If you were thinking burping is a medical problem of some sort, no. -
Is Pre Surgery Diet mandatory
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to crut77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My med plan didn't have a requirement and my surgeon personally didn't care about pre-op weight loss. Upon hearing that from her, I was thrilled, thinking I could eat as usual until later. Then, three weeks before my surgery date, it occurred to me that, if I were serious about losing weight, I'd start immediately. The 11 lbs I lost during those weeks were less significant than recognizing I'd truly committed to the whole undertaking. -

Weight

The scale that counts is the one at the surgery office. If stuffing down yogurt and whipped cream are typical of your solutions to frustrations and disappointments, what do you expect? There are other, more productive ways to deal with those things. -
Question
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to BobbyMacNCheese's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

Sore because of lapband
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Green1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you go to your appointment, be specific. Tell the staff exactly where the pain is; whether it occurs at certain times (e.g., after eating or when you bend over or whatever else). If you don't give them all the info you can, they'll be handicapped. They may think that some blood work or perhaps ultrasound or other radiology is in order. If so, it's to help them diagnose what's going on with you. -
How to tell if medication is not being absorbed?
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to KeepCalm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are a number of "maybes" here. You omit the name of the medication, but I'm going with its being a psychotropic. It's not uncommon for them to work for a while and then no longer work. Whether the dosage can be increased safely is to be determined by the psychiatrist* who is prescribing for you; many meds have a maximum dosage. Then there's the possibility of wacky hormones impeding the efficacy of the med. @@James Marusek offered other ideas that may account for what's going on. * I do hope you meant "psychiatrist" rather than "psychologist," who does not prescribe. If it's your GP who prescribed, you may want to consult a psychiatrist whose business it is to know the full range of meds and where to go when one drug isn't providing the desired relief. -
First Time Posting
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to rfox77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good attitude, Ryan. All the best. Whose idea is it for you to increase to 130-150g proteen? That's very high, enough to do kidney damage. It requires loads and loads of Water to flush through the kidneys. Unless your RD put it on the table with complete details to safeguard your health, talk about it first. Don't just go ahead on your own. (There's some sort of formula that some people follow regarding proteen and weight. I'm unfamiliar with it. It was my RD who told me that 140g is absolute max and completely unnecessary.) -
HELP me please pain
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to mouna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@mouna, it's possible that the pain below your breast/rib cage is gas, especially if it's on the left side. If it is, it will pass. Try walking around, which often helps. In any case you will be wise to call your surgeon's office to discuss it. -

When can I drink through a straw?
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to mommafranz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoa, you have one special place where you drink water with a straw? Take an aspirin and call me in the morning. You really said that? Oh, dear Krakow, what have they done to your song? Why not "Is that a frog in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" The first rule always is "Know your audience." -
Also your lab work, radiology images, everything, the whole shooting match.

If you need blood work quarterly, make the trip to another practice I don't think I'd ever be able to have faith in that practice again. Fyi, visit summaries that are available online to the patient are always sketchy regardless of specialty. You do have the right to full reports of your visits with no fuss. Just ask. The medical records are your property.

Your bewilderment is common. Take time to consider what you want to express with your wardrobe, each one for each area of your life.
