    First fill

If you don't, then, No, you shouldn't. Seriously. 1.5 is very little and, if your band was installed empty, I'd say your surgeon takes a more conservative approach than others. You'll continue going in for adjustments until you recognize that you're in a good place. Until your band is adjusted to a saline level that works for you, it's up to you to eat properly to lose weight. When the band is at the right level for you, it's up to you to use it as a partner. No matter what, you've got some work that you're responsible for. There are no magic wands in Bandville. 'Tis pity. Just so you know as you go along, each of us has an experience different from the others. If you and I have the same sized band, we may or may not also find that the same saline level works. This is an individual trip. I believe that the band is about more than "restriction." It's about diminished appetite. When I'm mindful, I know I'm in good shape if, at a meal, I think I can eat another bite or two, but realize that I don't need them because I'm sated. Have a great time as you go along. I was in NJ yesterday and had fish for dinner.

@@supersweet31, you are wonderful and I am brilliant. As I predicted, you're already doing well again. You backslid because you are human, among other reasons known only to you. Don't get down on yourself. All you have to do is take the steps that make sense.

    Research

I have no knowledge of protein suppplements, so I'll make no suggestions. As to working out, however, there's no reason not to go walking. Walking counts and moving is good. At some time it may help you to know that weight is weight regardless of the tissue that's being burned. You are losing weight. It's the source that you care about. You probably meant "fat." If your surgery practice is nearby, you may be able to get samples of various products from the RD.

NEW WEIGHT LOSS MIRACLE DRINK DISCOVERED (Not An Ad)

I'm a dealer in a new, fabulous product you all should try. It provides all the health benefits for an amazingly low price and it's a terrific space saver. It's called INSTANT Water. It's pure water that comes in gallon jugs and it's so easy to prepare. All you do is add a gallon of tap water and, voila!, you've got two gallons of water!

Where do I begin? Very DEPRESSED

Short and sweet advice -- Make an appointment with the surgeon's. You'll need an esophagram to see whether the band is in position and whether you're dilated. When there, discuss how your band is behaving now to determine whether an adjustment is needed. A session with the RD certainly can't hurt toward reframing your food choices and meal planning. Between today and your appt with the RD, keep food trackers in minute detail and take them to the appt. Keep minutely detailed food trackers always. Test your seriousness this minute. Go into the kitchen, put all the crap into a bag and carry it out to the trash. You've done well before, you can do well again. Take a wild guess at how I know this.

DID WLS LEAD TO A CAREER CHANGE FOR ANYONE?

What you're thinking of doing sounds stupendous. RD's can do a lot of good and I think that most of us who've had surgery would agree that too few RD's working in bariatric practices understand much about our total experience. I will suggest that, if you do go ahead with this career change, you pursue RD status. Anyone can claim to be a "nutritionist." There are absolutely no requirements to use that title and hang out a shingle. While some people do study before hanging their shingles, but not enough to become a licensed RD, The proper Master's degree (and whatever else is required) that leads to RD status will open far more doors for you.

    Sewing your own clothes

I greatly admire @@ssflbelle and you for your willingness to throw yourself right into it. I'm also glad you decided against altering t-shirts. They're not worthwhile. More to the point, the fabric is much more difficult to work with than non-stretchy fabric. Knits and stretchy fabrics are much trickier because of their stretch itself. No reason not to give it a shot and see what you think, though. The experience will go into your learning bank.

    Pop Rocks and Coke . . . .

That makes no sense. We know the fails, which means we know where you were hoping for success. What's the difference? Big baby.
  15. I can't speak of sleeve or revision to sleeve, but, from what I've read in BP, don't see why you shouldn't do well. What I will advise is that you make losing weight your only goal. Don't think about the rate of loss. Simply seeing the scale move downward will tell you the only thing that really matters. Keep in mind, too, that people who revise from band to sleeve generally lose at a slower rate than those who've been sleeved from the start. That you wish to lose not all that much now is also a factor. You'll be fine.

    Sewing your own clothes

If you want to tackle altering your clothes, why not give it a try? Keep in mind that things can be taken in just so much before they look like clown costumes. Example, a skirt that has an off-center pleat or two (perhaps at the front of one leg) can be taken in only a little or the pleats will be in a weird place. I hope that tells you what I'm getting at. The simpler the garment, the longer it's altered life will be, but there are limits no matter what. You might want to take a class before risking your wardrobe.

My age and starting weight...anyone close?

@@GettinSlim80 -- It's fine to ask if the comparison is fun and interesting to you. You and anyone who responds are not each other, though. You won't necessarily have the same track record as those who've been losing most rapidly. You'll probably do very well, but keep realistic expectations. You must have read Hamlet along the way. Polonius' advice to Laertes will serve you well: This above all, to thine own scale be true... All the best to you.
  21. WLSResources/ClothingExch

    Scales lie

You can rely on one scale (the doctor's, probably) for accuracy and the other (yours) for consistency, that is, just seeing your weight go down. Not quite an aside, early in my surgery life I was a stickler for noting tenths of pounds as most of us are. After a while, it occurred to me that, when talking of losing 100 lbs or something like that, what's a few pounds give or take? The main thing is to see my weight going down whether I know the precise number at any time. Now when I'm weighed at my practice office, I scribble down the number on the scale, while the med assistant deducts two lbs for clothes and shoes. I don't care.
