    Weight loss surgery

He isn't alone unless your mother and brother are incompetent or incapable. Another option is a home aide to care for him.

    Orange Juice

You know that the general rule is not to drink calories. I've pretty much adhered to it, but occasionally -- rarely, to be accurate -- revel in a glass or two of orange or pineapple juice. I'll buy only a one-pint container of OJ and stretch it over two days. The couple of times a year that I buy a large can of the other, I drink a glass or two and freeze the rest in portions to be used in marinades. If having a little of something wonderful makes it easier to stay the course, I say Yes. What applies to me and my band may not apply to you and bypass. I can't guess because you've revealed nothing about your surgery history/timeline. Make the correct decision. If you opt for juice, account for it in your food-tracking. All the best to you. Good night.

    Weight loss surgery

Make it a priority goal to move out to a more civilized, kinder environment. Look for an apartment on your own or for a roommate situation. Your parents and brother aren't the nicest people. You don't have to ditch them completely, but if you're not with them so much of the time, the time that you do spend together may be improved.
  4. Where do the blasted fruit flies come from? When I choose my items at the store or farmers' market, I don't see any. Even if they're there (outdoors?), wouldn't they be shooed away when I'm handling the fruits and putting them into bags? How do they get into my kitchen? A day or two after I've placed the tomatoes, sweet peppers, bananas and whatall-else on the counter or table, one or two fruit flies materialize from nowhere. I really hope someone knows how this happens and how to stop it.

@ShelterDog64 - While I sometimes see one around the sink, it didn't occur to me that they live in the drain. I wondered why the sink. I also wonder why I never see more than one there or around the fruit. Maybe there's a law on their home planet.

I don't know why they live in the drains, but it skeeves me out thinking about them walking around in all that drain gunk then walking around in my kitchen :-P

@ShelterDog64 -- As long as they stay out of my brain gunk. What was the TV series last year? I didn't get the premise, but the gummint was somehow sneaking some sort of bug life into people's brains to turn them into mindless followers or replacements similar to "Invasion of the Body Snatcher?" At least, the series was something like that.

    Dry skin...lotions?

My dermatologist recommend Eucerin Calming Cream when I saw him one winter and was completely dry because of the dry heat in my apartment. I know that CVS has their version, Something-Something-Soothing-Cream, which will cost a little less. A notation on the tube will say "compare to the.[the name brand]." I suppose other large chains have their private-label versions. P.S. It works for me. I apply whenever my skin starts to feel like sandpaper without my even touching it or when it feels almost painful.

    NSV !'

@@Kumbaice -- When you wake up tomorrow with some soreness and maybe with bruises, enjoy them. These will be the most delicious pains of your life. @@Flora Anderson -- Anything physical, no matter how ordinary, that you couldn't do quite so easily or at all before surgery most definitely is an NSV. Don't cheat yourself out of any of them.

    Anyone else?

Weight loss is about losing fat. Alas, the skin doesn't go with it. Now you know first-hand. I've never heard of the misconception before and hope that anyone who shares it with y'all comes by to read this topic. Khuuxo, I hope you find the way to what you want.

    It's like voting.... It's personal!

@@Djmohr -- Re your post #5, not a quick fix for anyone. Think of the many newcomers whose posts clearly show that they expect surgery to be a magical cure up to and including elimination of the need to be alert forever after when maintaining. As a lapbander, I know that many BP members have revised from it to either sleeve or bypass. A while back I thought I might be a candidate, but so far, so good. The whole revision thing can be is confusing. About four years ago I met a woman who had bypass surgery and revised to band. I wish I could recall the reason she gave. It may be that another person here in BP revised to band, too. @@10stackzz, did you mean that, without vigilance, surgery may be a temp fix rather than a quick one? I was never clear on what "quick fix" means in any regard.

    Blocking

Yes, I do wish it worked like FB where you can't see them and more importantly, they can't see you. I think that would stop a LOT of issues. That said, I don't click on the names of people I ignore 99% of the time. What would be the point? Some time back I suggested to the BP people that total blocking be set up. The response rang snippy. I have clicked on a few of my ignorees (new coinage?) a number of times, but not deliberately. Sometimes I grip the mouse more tightly than necessary when I'm moving the arrow around the screen. What I don't get is why certain parties go to my profile -- some rarely and others often -- when at least one of us has never dealt with the other well or or we've never communicated at all. It seems that one who's blocked me shows up weekly.

How do you view overweight people now that your thin?

It seems to me that people who lose gobs of weight and are judgmental of others who are overweight were equaily judgmental before they lost weight. The possible reasons are many, so I won't even take time to name any. You can figure them out.

    So depressed. Really need help

I'm numbering things for the sake of simplicity instead of going in circles. I know something about depression and hiding out and ups and downs. 1. They may need reevaluating. If the prescriber is your PCP, ask for a referral to a psychiatrist or NP-type who precribes psych meds. It's their job to know the full array of available meds. 2. With luck, this drop in mood is the result of the holiday season. Now that it's over, your mood may improve on its own. 3. That sounds as much like a refusal as an explanation. Sure, you have no motivation because you're feeling crappy. Do something, anything -- e.g., take a walk once around the block -- just for the stimulation. You won't feel motivated until you do something that will motivate you. To sit and wait for Motivation to knock risks sitting forever. Once around the block today. 4. "Drunk" has always been a known mood bummer. You know that. There's a huge difference between being drunk and having one or a couple of drinks. "Couple" is two. 5. Of course they have their merits and charms, but boys aren't necessarily the solution. The "anything" is the more concerning part, whether the absence of "anything" is real or just because your perceptions are messed these days. 6. Take that walk. Pay attention to everyone and everything you see and hear along the way. Once you're back home, write about it. Write down what struck you and why, whether it was a bird hopping and pecking along a lawn or a kid on a tricycle or a neighbor taking out the garbage. You'll discover that you are in fact connected to the world. Maybe you'll have learned some little thing that you'd never thought of before. Life is in the mundane as well as the large things.

    Secret Surgery

You don't have to tell anyone about surgery. At school, just let the people who need to know (faculty, I suppose) that you'll miss classes for the period because of a personal or family matter that needs attention. Ask them for the assignments they'll be giving during that time. If you're in the U.S. and your job's medical plan is paying for surgery, only whomever in personnel will know from the paperwork. Your supervisors have no right to ask or know. When arranging with supervisors for the time off, tell them the same -- family or personal matter., Certainly the weight loss will be evident soon enough. When asked, simple: I changed the way I eat and [if you do] started to exercise. It's all true.

    Quenching thirst/drinking fast

You won't know until you get there. Of all the things that can strike fear in one's life, is not being able to chug really on the list? Ask yourself whether, if you knew for sure that you'd never be able to chug again, you would cancel surgery. There's your answer.

    No psych eval?

Some surgeons want a psych eval, but most often, it's required only by an insurance company. One less expense out of your pocket.

    Work out question

HIPAA violation: What would you do?

@@swimbikerun, I am pleased with the outcome. I believe that the facility has tidied its act. That's what was needed. Filing a complaint with HIPAA can accomplish nothing more. When I spoke with the exec I questioned her minutely. My intention was two-fold: To hear how they were tightening up their act and to imply that I wouldn't hesitate to go to HIPAA if she weren't convincing. Now I'm moving on.

Nearly a year in and Not losing weight.

Then your saline level definitely needs to be reevaluated and increased. That you didn't have all that much to lose doesn't play into it. The fact is that the band just isn't where you need it. You want it where you feel satiated sooner than you experienced pre-surgery. If the RD at your practice is really good, consider making an appointment to plan a new approach. The hysterectomy may well have an affect and can be taken into account. See the RD can also help you clean up your choices. If your not exercising, try starting. And what's this "Treacle" business? That's murder on the scale. Try "Thumbelina." I really hope you get on a better track. Make that "Trackle."

    No Support!

You have to be your own supportive person. You've lost pre-surgery weight so far with him in the picture. Doesn't that tell you can lose the rest? Do errands on your own. Leave him by the side of the road after a fashion. His habits are his habits; look the other way. . It would be nice, too, if Warren Buffett were to name you a beneficiary of his estate. You can't have it all. Don't watch TV with him. Do more out-and-abouting. Sometimes a home has termites. Concentrate on what you're doing and what your immediate goal is. Ignore the junk-guzzler.
