Total Rant.... Watch out for the Big Girls....

I'm sure Marvin is charming and knows how to behave like a human being. It's just his family.... It can play out in different ways. When you lose the weight, they won't notice you or they'll make a big fuss and say more stupid things. At least the stupid things will be a new script. If they take the low, ignorant road next year, you can have fun planting wicked seeds. Whisper to one of them, "Did you ask Uncle John's wife if she plans on getting false teeth so that she can enjoy the turkey?" "Does Carla's boyfriend see a dermatologist?" Just kidding, but you can have some fun thinking of ways to start trouble amongst them. At the same time, imagine them naked.

    This may sound bad

I don't know if that sounds good, bad or neutral. It's just the way you're feeling. After the discussion of your feeling your PCP had lied to you, you posted about things working out to your advantage, which I hadn't noticed before just now. Your going back and forth and back again makes me think you can make good use of this extra month by sorting out your thoughts and emotions. If you disagree again, that's okay. In the meantime, dance it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7leQB_Oe_k

Feeling surreal few days before surgery/slight fear

@@ahappycamper, you're back already! My best pain-avoiding tip is to brace yourself with a bed pillow for coughing, laughing, sneezing and similar. Press the pillow firmly against your middle (the incisions, that is). It really makes quite a good difference. "Now go out there and be so swell that you'll make me hate you!" - You'll have to look that up yourself.

    Banded October 19th

@@midgelovescookies, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about the two lbs. It sounds as though you've advanced to solid food which is the best time -- feeling like a "real" persnon in the real world. Follow the guidelines you were given and, if you haven't started, use a food tracker. My Fitness Pal is highly recommended. Keep track of everything, as it's a learning tool for times like this and times when rate of loss may slow. Losing one or two pounds per week means you're hitting the bull in his eye. If you pre-plan meals and grocery shopping, you'll be much happier than you will be on a primarily liquid regimen. Losing weight is happiest when we're like all the other kids, not doing something that feels like deprivation or punishment. You'll be fine.

"Selfish" isn't always that kind of four-letter word. Sometimes it's this kind: G-O-O-D. As long as you trust that you're ready to commit for the long haul, ask those you love to have faith in you. Go forth and be amazing.

@@Missbeauty16 -- "... I will let them know on surgery date!l if it doesn't go away!" Don't play games with your heart. "Surgery date" is only two days away and you say you're experiencing shortness of breath today.* Talk about it with your team in any case. If the surgeon determines that postponement is wise, it is. * Do yourself a favor and don't quibble with me over several hours or days. I'm here with your well-being in mind. 25 days in hospital...need advice!

I think I managed to sort out one "he" from the other. I don't know if it needs to be a bariatric surgeon. It is a good idea, but there are other specialties that can refer for lab work and radiology if your husband's surgeon hasn't in the past few weeks. Ask the surgeon for a referral elsewhere, "Something's wrong. I'd like a second opinion because I don't accept a life of nausea and fever." As @@rolosmom7 wrote, call anyway. The nurses probably are accurate -- when it suits medical practitioners, they are tougher than any union worker -- but don't just sit back and take their word for it. We're talking about something as simple as a few phone calls. You and your husband are talking about his health. You're not the ones who should be feeling timid or intimidated.

Pre-Op Cold Feet Due to Family's WLS Disapproval :(

@@Vagrant Violet, If your mother and sister are obese or even chubby, they probably have a vested interest in keeping you right there with them. No matter their love for you, it's common for people to fear either being left in the dust or having a slim person standing close by so that their own weight is more obvious. 25 days in hospital...need advice!

There are a number of BP members who work in the medical field. I'm not one of them and I hope you hear from them with solid advice. Here's the best I can offer: Have various lab tests and imaging been done? Has your husband seen his primary doctor for input when not in-hospital.? Has he contacted his medical plan for referral and/or advocacy? It may be that he needs to see someone in a specialty other than surgery, e.g., gastroenterology. Unless you live in a small town near Nowhere [will you name your town and state?], I don't see why the surgeon would have said there is no one else, certainly since he also says he has "no idea,,," The response is unacceptable given that the problems persist. As a non-medical person, I know that fever likely indicates infection. Getting a second opinion certainly would be wise and within your husband's right. If you want to find a medical advocate to lighten the load for you, try googling "find a medical advocate." Several things come up, including info at AARP's site, Oprah.com, Consumer Reports. I can't speak for their usefulness, but they are there to be explored if you wish.

Feeling surreal few days before surgery/slight fear

@@ahappycamper, Somehow part of my earlier note to you disappeared. Where I quoted your statement about having little hospital experience and the loss of your father and boyfriend, I said that having little experience is great, that no one wants much hospital time. Also that the sadness of losing two important people weighs heavily, but it's separate from your coming surgery.

Feeling surreal few days before surgery/slight fear

I don't see the skill and intentions of a surgery team as the concern. They don't live with us inside our psyches. It's ourselves in whom we need "faith." We need to trust our capability to make well-reasoned decisions. Beyond that, we have the power of choice. I'm not suggesting that you do so, but you can choose today to cancel surgery. You have that much power. You chose to begin the surgery process. You exercised your power and trust in yourself. There's nothing at all unusual about feeling fearful when surgery is only days away. "I think my very little experience being a patient in hospitals paired with my dad and boyfriend both dying in hospitals..." Most of all stay aware that it was your power that brought you here. You've got it, dental anxiety be damned. ,

    My doctor lied to me

@@hudjess, I'm thinking of your well-being for the short term and the long term. If you believe that you're ready for surgery now, fine. It was only my thought that a few months more to regroup before surgery wouldn't be such a bad thing. (I get that the financial aspects may change because you left your job, but I wasn't thinking in terms of money.) I expect that your therapist wrote a letter in support of surgery a while ago. Maybe another letter to refute your PCP might make a difference. I also expect that the surgery practice set you up with someone else for the psych eval and you "passed." Just throwing this out -- maybe a revisit with that person would make a difference. Another possibility is to ask the surgeon what would make the difference -- what would get you back in the OR schedule. Asking may get you some concrete info that you can work with.

    My doctor lied to me

@@hudjess, you've given more information in this thread than you did in yesterday's thread. You have been and are dealing with so much that gets you down. You said that you have anti-anxiety meds, but nothing about whether you're in therapy. If you don't have a good therapist, it seems that finding one is most important. Working with someone who is knowledgeable about anxiety and its triggers and sources will do so much for you. You'll be more comfortable inside your own skin, more available to your daughter, have better chances for following through after your surgery and just enjoy life more. I think those things should be priority now.

2nd day of puree and feeling sick

I don't know if you awoke feeling ill because of what you ate, but here it is, about 12 hours later, and you seem to be fine. It suggests that there isn't much to be worried about. You were specific about puréeing only the cottage cheese and peach. Did you purée the scrambled egg? Quite a few people say that eggs don't go down well in the early stages. I'm mentioning it and don't know if all the hours that elapsed mean you're not one of them.

    What a joke

@@hudjess, I have anxiety to a far lesser degree than most. It arises now and then, not often, with some situations that are stressful so that I'd rather not deal with them. I've known a few people whose anxiety is more constant and deeper, but never have heard of passing out from it. @@Butterflywarrior 's note makes good sense. Your PCP isn't "against" you. I'm comfortable saying that he's concerned that you need a little more time before surgery. Surgery itself can be stressful. Butterflywarrior's last line is solid. If you're like most BP users, you've had a significant weight problem for quite some time. Sure, you're set, but postponing surgery for a little while won't make much difference.
