    Need a June 15, 2015 buddy!

Mine is the 22nd and kaiser only has you in a liquid diet 2 days before surgery. Every program is different

    Smoking ?

I'm not a smoker but the Dr mentioned that you need to quit three months before surgery. In the initial class, they threatened to test for that, however I never got any testing for it. With kaiser they have in your chart of your a smoker or former or never smoker, so that may determine if they test you. Good luck with quitting. My boyfriend is trying to quit, and I know from his experience its not easy

    Liquids

Hello, I will be having my surgery in about three weeks, and the two days beforehand I need to be on liquids, and day 2 Clear Liquids. Anyone have any advice. I know that I will get more information once I go to my pre-op class, however I want to be ready and prepared. Thank you

    Liquids

Thank you very much, and yes I was needing ideas. I only have to do for two days, which is better than what I have heard, but I want to be prepared.

Being a Big Guy and Dating

I think you should go for it. You only live once and should find someone who is accepting of who you are on the insides, and not all about looks. Good luck with your search

    Slim fast

I wouldn't drink the slimfast. There is too much sugar in it and a lot of carbs. In the Kaiser Bariatric Program, they mention to not used Slimfast or Atkins. If you want a Protein shake, go with Syntrax nectar. Its 100 calories for a scoop, but no carbs or sugars and 23g of protein. This shake keeps me full the entire day and I drink Water as well. Good luck

    Can't Decide

I was going thru the same issues when I initially started this journey. i did my research, talked to my surgeon, and talked to people on here and through other support groups. The dr mentioned that because of the amount of weight I want to lose, we can always do the sleeve and if it doesn't work as well, can always come up and do the bypass. I only want to have the surgery once. So after everything, i have finally chosen the bypass for many other reasons besides the surgeon. I would get a piece of paper and fold it it in half. I would go the pros and cons for each and see if you can find your decision that way. Your the only one that can make this decision. Good luck

    31 and pre-surgery

Hello Tiana. I am Nicole and I am in the pre-op part of this process as well in Northern California. I have my insurance through Kaiser and I have currently completed the 2 hr orientation, 4hr class, 1 surgeon appointment, and nutrition class. I have my next appointment scheduled on May 21st for my psychological exam. I am 3lbs shy of the goal weight they have given, but will hopefully reach that when I go back in. Good luck on your journey
  13. 3 more pounds by the 21st.. I can do this

    Time off work for recovery

I guess I am in a lucky situation. I have the ability to work from home, and even got permission from my boss to do so. Before I have surgery, I will either have a loaner laptop or someone from my IT department will place a PC in my house. I am hoping to only be out between 1-2 weeks, because I will get crazy being at home.
  15. Hello everyone, I am curious what items people are wearing right after surgery when you are recovering, and afterwards. I work in a professional environment where I need to be nicely dressed and not sure if my slacks are going to hurt being on my stomach after surgery. I will more than likely be going back to work within 1-3 weeks depending on what the dr says, and will be working from home 1-2 days after surgery Any advice on what works and doesn't is greatly appreciated.

    I blew it

For that kind of stress you get an out. Hope everything goes well.
  17. I have the opposite where I have a super supportive significant other, but get afraid of what just happened with you. I had to have foot surgery a few years ago and was laid up for 4 weeks. My boyfriend at the time ( ex husband now) was completely confident in telling me that after my surgery was going to help me and assured my mom, who lives out of town, that I would be taken care of otherwise I would have gone home with her. Well, long story short he slept all day and played video games all night and didn't help me. I wasn't supposed to be on my foot, but by day 2 I had to get up and around if I was going to feed myself. It was horrible. My situation now is different but I still have that fear. We have talked about it and he has assured me this will be different. I am 6 lbs away from my gastric bypass surgery and cant wait to get everything started. I would say breathe, let him cool off, and have a sit down talk with him to get deep down of why he feels that way. Like the posts prior, he is probably nervous and scared as well.
  18. Hello, Definitely make sure to do your research. Talk with your dr. They will help you with any questions that you may have and depending on how much you want to lose, you will come together and make a choice. My insurance doesn't do the lap band anymore because there isn't a high success rate, too much maintenance, and the ability to have a 2nd stomach and not lose the weight is great. This forum is amazing and you will find a lot of information on here. Good luck on your journey

    Fruit....

Apples are super good for you and dont have as much sugar as some of the melons or acidic fruit. Apples are the kind of fruit that actually burns calories. It takes more effort to eat and process the apple than consuming it.

200 lbs or more to lose?

I wanted to say welcome to the group. I just recently posted my weight after keeping it hidden for almost a month. I finally decided that other people's negative comments will not bother me. I am the same as you, need to lose about 200 lbs. I think having a good support system at home and here is super important. I have talked to nothing but nice people on here and have gotten my questions and advice answered. We can do this if we all work together and stay positive
  21. Originally my heart was set on the gastric sleeve surgery, since it was the less evasive of the two. When I met with the dr he mentioned we can do the sleeve and I didn't lose the amount of weight that I wanted, he could go back in and do the bypass. Have you spoken to your dr about what you are going thru? or possible see a different dr? Good luck to you
  22. I know that edaname beans are super good protein and they have different flavors. If you have a sprouts market in your area they carry them in the deli section and they are soft.. There are also dried ones, but those are hard and I wouldn't suggest that yet

    Pre op fail

I don't believe that it will affect anything, unless for some reason you gain any weight from it. My surgeon has stated a few times that if you gain even 1lb over the goal weight that you are given he will cancel the surgery. Good luck in your journey
  24. Hey there, Well I had my first surgeon appointment today. I was super nervous when I was in there, but it went better than expected. In the two weeks since starting the 1200 calorie diet I have lost 12 pounds. I didn't think I had done that and it was great to hear that with that weight loss, I am only 12 pounds away from meeting my goal weight for surgery. YAY ME Since I have started this journey my mind has always been set on having the gastric sleeve. From my research it is the less evasive of the two. When I met with the dr today, he mentioned that gastric sleeve is good, but the bypass would be better. He also mentioned that if I am not able to lose the weight from the sleeve, we can always convert to the bypass later. So my question to everyone is, and knowing that I don't want to go through 2 procedures, did anyone get the sleeve and regret not getting the bypass and visa versa? Your input would be appreciated
