I agree with JamieLogical. I don't do the protein shakes and haven't been able to since surgery, but I do eat a protein bar for breakfast and try to get in a 8oz glass of skim or fat free milk a day. With those two, I am over 50% of my protein of the day, and manage to get the rest in with meats and veggies. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I guess I was lucky that milk doesn't do anything to me.

I would also try Kmart. They have an online store that I believe goes up to that size. Good luck -
Driving after Gastric Bypass?
snickysnack78 replied to doyouhear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I waited a week because the effects of the anesthia can be in your system for that long. I stopped taking pain medicine after day 3, but didn't feel my head was on straight until a week out -
I am 7 weeks out of surgery and haven't noticed anything yet. I talked to my NUT and they said that it can happen, but not all the time, just depends on how your body handles everything. Make sure you take all your vitamins and get all your protein in.

my pain in the hospital wasn't that bad, but of course I was under a lot of pain meds. I was really sick from the anethesia, so I was pretty bruised in the ribs from throwing up so much. I stopped taking the pain meds after day 3, which was the same day that I started getting relief from the gas in my stomach

Traveling...need food suggestions
snickysnack78 replied to JLT1971's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the Jerky. I know some brands that have a small package that is only 70 calories and 11-15g of Protein. Great for on the on the go. String cheese is another good one. Good luck and safe travels -
Hello, I am today 5 weeks post op RNY. I have lost 72lbs since March and have dropped 27lbs since surgery. I know that I haven't been out for that long, but I feel as though I should be losing more. I eat about 1/4 cup of food a meal and manage to get all my Protein and my liquids in. Do you start seeing more of a difference afterwards? I still look the same and am nervous for my drs appt on Friday. I have always been losing and keeping up, and I feel like im not keeping up. Any advice? Do our stomachs stay swollen for a long time after surgery?

Not losing enough

Thank you everyone for the reassurance. I go back to the dr for my 4 week checkup. Lets see how that goes -
Before surgery I was working out 3-4 times a week, Swimming 20 laps and running 20 laps in the pool. It was such a great workout because I have a torn Achilles. I am now week 5 post op and my dr finally cleared me to work out again last week. I have been slowly building myself back up to what I was doing before, but I know its going to take time. I did a water aerobics class for the first time last night and loved it. Didn't think it would be that much of a workout, but boy was I wrong. I would start slow, walking in the pool where its no impact and every time you work out as the other ladies have mentioned, walk a little more. Trust me, it helps and you will feel better

I would maybe buy a sample pack of the Protein shakes. After I had surgery, I couldn't stand the Protein Powder that I had. Good luck with your surgery -

Diabetics and bypass patients

Before surgery, my A1C was at a 7, but I had to take insulin at night and take glipizie in the morning and in the evening. Since surgery ( June 22) I am off all my meds and blood pressure meds as well -
I never really had a bad sugar addiction, but love to have sweets. For me it about carbs, but way before surgery I took a lot of it out because I was diabetic and not working. If you want something sweet, try sugar free popsicles and sugar free pudding. By the time you have surgery and are post op and have to be on liquids and mostly sweet things, you wont want anything sweet for a while. Good luck in your journey

I am three weeks post op and have had the same issue. My surgeon said 15 min before and 30 min after. I tried once to not do that, and sadly enough I didn't get enough Protein that day. Now I just don't have to a drink around me before and after. Its a chore, however when I do that, I get the nutrients I need. Good luck

I wouldn't suggest eating pizza, however if that is something you are craving, improvise. You can make a chicken pizza so instead of dough, flat out chicken as the crust or cauliflower. Or better yet, put cheese on parchment paper and place your toppings on top ( turkey pepperoni is packed with protein) and bake in the oven. That way you will be getting Protein first and still satisfying what you want. Good luck

2 Weeks Post-Op - Pureed food!
snickysnack78 replied to Amylou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my program you cant have eggs until week 8. They have stated that they can cause blockage. I have made tuna this week and brought it to work, very tasty. Also have eaten part of a pickle, as long as you chew and chew. -
Pre-Pre-Op weight loss
snickysnack78 replied to PhatPhoenixVSG's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I started doing Protein shakes for Breakfast once I went to my original meeting, before meeting with the surgeon. From the time of the first meeting to when meeting with surgeon, I had lost 15lbs. From there, I only had to lose 12 more lbs to get surgery. By the time of surgery I was 10lbs past my goal weight, with losing 5 lbs in the two days before on the liquid diet. Good luck on your journey -
I have been to black bear diner a few times and they do have some healthier choices on the menu, or used to anyways. I had this grilled chicken breast that had brocolli and cheese inside of it. It was decent and instead of the mashed potatoes I asked for a salad instead. the Breakfast is decent too, but its nice to get one entree and share

I had my surgery June 22. I am on full liquids this week, and pretty much have been going between sugar free popsicles and no sugar added apple sauce. I have been unable to do broth, Powerade zero and Jello since surgery, they make me nauceous. I did try vegetarian minestone Soup broth yesterday and that was amazing. I am looking forward to next week when I can do stage 3, pureed foods. Pain wise I have been fine, just having a little itchyness now around the big incision. My dr was great and didnt go anywhere near the bra or pant line. I haven't taken any pain medicines since last Wednesday, which is great for me. I had a hard time right after surgery because I was so sick from the medicine that they gave me prior to surgery. Good luck with everyone's journey -
Im 5 days post op and applesauce and popsicles are my friend

You are in for the rid of your life!! Best decision I ever made! Attitude is EVERYTHING! So is knowing what to expect so there are no surprises. The time will eventually rush at you and it will be surgery day. Then the ride to the hospital, then the wait in the waiting room. Then BAM! You're on the losers bench! So happy for you!

Marriage and relationships after Weight Loss Surgery
snickysnack78 replied to TiredOfMyself's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The problems, if any, that are there before the surgery will be there after. The weight loss surgery wont fix any of your relationship problems. In my case, my boyfriend has been nothing but supportive in this. He has attended all he can wit the support groups, and will be prepared to be with me while I am at the hospital. He said he will do anything. At first, we kind of argued about it, but I think that it was his insecurity. He had the impression that I would lose all this weight and then leave him. After letting the information sit at the table for a while and he understood why I was doing it ( healthier life and have children), he was on board. I just need to make sure to talk to him and communicate more. Good luck in your journey
