@@Daisee68 thanks! What kind of calcium do you take? I take the ones that are kind of like tootsie rolls and my mom (who is a nurse) suggested that they might be the culprit.

You know you lost weight when

When you weigh less than the weight on your driver's license - which you lied about in the first place! -
I really enjoy these ice cream bars called Enlightened. They come in six different flavours, only have about 6 grams of sugar, have between 5 - 9 grams of protein, are between 70 - 100 calories, and several grams of fibre. They're sweetened with sugar alcohol though which sometimes doesn't sit well with everyone. And they're pricey - $5 for four bars. I think they're worth it though because when eating so few calories I can't really justify eating something without protein or fibre. There's another ice cream brand called Arctic Zero which is ok but doesn't have the protein but is also low in calories and sugar without using aspartame or sucralose. I found a new brand today called Halo Top which reminds me of Enlightened when it comes to nutrition, except that it's in a pint rather than a bar. Haven't actually tried it yet.

Whole Wheat Bread
Indieflickers replied to Indieflickers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll have to check those out! -
I've found this amazing cookbook called Recipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery and have made several of the recipes with great success. However in the "Lunch" section it keeps mentioning "diet whole wheat bread" but isn't any more specific than that. It must be low carb bread, too, because for the whole recipe (including 2 slices of bread) it's only 27 total carbs. I googled "diet whole wheat bread" but came up empty. Any suggestions about low carb whole wheat? Let me edit that to say whole GRAIN bread, not whole wheat.

Quest bars and dumping
Indieflickers replied to robinsmj's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I don't think I started eating them until about 4 1/2 months out but that was just because I was having trouble getting enough protein. -
Definitely interested!

Quest bars and dumping
Indieflickers replied to robinsmj's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@robinsmj it may be the erythritol (a sugar alcohol) in the Quest bar that is making you nauseous. I don't have a problem with erythritol but I tried something with maltitol (another sugar alcohol) and it made me nauseous and gave me a seriously upset stomach. Perhaps try a bar without sugar alcohols and see if that makes a difference? -
I'm six months out from RNY and about 93lbs down and I'm SO BLOODY TIRED! It feels like it's getting worse. I just got my 6 month lab work back and the doctor said it all looked really good so she's not sure why I'm so tired. I usually get about 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep a night and I use my CPAP religiously for my sleep apnea. The doctor suggested I make an appointment with my primary care doctor to see if my thyroid is ok, but with the bureaucratic hassles it could take weeks to get those results. Does anyone have any advice on what to do in the meantime?

Why Am I So Tired?
Indieflickers replied to Indieflickers's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@ while the fitness trackers are awesome, I've read that you should take a lot of their sleep data with a grain of salt. I believe that the way the bands measure sleep is a bit on the simplistic side so it's not super accurate. http://m.livescience.com/42710-fitness-trackers-sleep-monitoring-accuracy.html -

Why Am I So Tired?
Indieflickers replied to Indieflickers's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Update! Had my appointment with my primary care doc today. The good news is that I've officially lost 100 pounds since surgery 5 1/2 months ago. Also, all my blood work apparently looks great. The only downside to my blood work looking great is that there is no definitive answer on why I'm so tired. The blood panel I had done two weeks ago also included a thyroid test and it's perfectly normal. My Iron is good, my B12 is great, everything is perfect. The doctor said she thinks the fatigue is simply due to my body adjusting to the "dramatic weight loss" (her words). She thinks the further out I get from surgery, the less tired I'll feel. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for all of your suggestions! -
Fatigued at 9 months out!
Indieflickers replied to Janice1968's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was wondering if maybe I'm not absorbing all my Iron either. I take the calcium and iron at least two hours apart but I still could be having absorption issues. I've done a bit of research and apparently taking Vitamin C with the iron may help with absorption. I started that a few days ago, so we'll see how it goes. -

@@scrapbasket I'll ask my primary care doctor about that! @@Alex Brecher since I started using the CPAP machine almost a year ago, I find that I actually have trouble sleep more than 7 - 8 hours. For example, today I didn't set my alarm and I still woke up at 6am. I also seem to have a decent amount of energy when I wake up, it just fades fast! -
Still looking for friends on the Jawbone UP?
-
I have the basic Jawbone band. I like the look of the FitBits better but I much prefer the Jawbone UP app. Plus it now has all of my regular meals programmed into it and I'd hate to have to start all over with a new app. Plus there's a bit of vanity too - I have been using it since surgery so the graph showing weight loss is nice and steep. I considered upgrading to one of the new Jawbones that claim to measure heart rate and REM sleep but 1) they're expensive and 2) most reviews I've read say that they, and other similar bands that claim to do similar things - aren't actually all that accurate. So for now, I'm sticking with my crappy $40 basic band.

Sweet eaters - what was your story with gastric bypass?
Indieflickers replied to salubrino's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm kind of glad to hear that other people were disappointed that they hadn't experienced dumping. I was actually kind of hoping to because it would be a really effective deterrent - I'm a glutton, not a masochist. But I've tried really hard to stay away from anything over about 10 grams of sugar. The only exception is my Protein shake which I put a whole banana in, which, depending on the size of the banana can have as much as 20 grams of sugar in it. Like @@Djmohr, I also can't do artificial sweetener, or at least, I can tolerate only a very small amount. The only time I've experienced anything close top dumping was when I tried a sugar free maple syrup from Whole Foods that was made with Maltitol (a sugar alcohol). I was in the bathroom for an hour! I use about a teaspoon of SweetLeaf stevia in my tea in the morning and I've discovered I really enjoy the Enlightened ice cream bars which have Eryithritol in them, but that's really it. I do sometimes put dark chocolate chunks in my plain greek yogurt but the total never exceeds 10g of sugar. I also made a really good pumpkin zucchini bread with unflavored Protein powder and I used dark chocolate and honey in it. A slice had 10.9 grams of sugar in it.
