    Extended Release Medications

I'm taking a venlafaxine (generic Effexor) extended release tablet. I'm six weeks post op and have had zero issues. I'm very sensitive to side effects when I miss my med, so I believe it is working perfectly well since I've had no issues. My surgeon said that it would be no problem and that has been my experience.

    Vaping after Surgery

Excuse my frankness, but why in the holy hell would you restart using tobacco products after managing to stay free of them for four months?Nicotine is a carcinogen no matter what form you're ingesting it in.
  3. Had my RNY on May 19th. I'm doing really well. I can get all my water, vitamins, and protein drinks in with no trouble. The only issues I'm having are with my head. I miss food. I can't wait for the two weeks to be over so I can have some soft foods. ????

    Sugar free Popsicles n gum

Gum is not recommended by my surgeon because of the gassiness it can cause. Chewing gum almost always results in swallowing air. Most sugar free gums are sweetened with sugar alcohols rather than aspartame or Splenda and so on. Those can make you gassy too. Sugar free popsicles are ok on my plan, but sometimes cold fluids can make your pouch really hurt. We were told to stick with room temperature fluids to avoid that problem.

    Headaches post op

I definitely had headaches right before and for a few days post op. I think caffeine was behind it, even though I had almost completely given it up. They will pass if you stay off of the caffeine. Make sure you are getting your fluids in, that will help.

    Diet and Pain relievers

Oh yes, aspirin is also an NSAID. And all I'm allowed to eat for the 2 weeks following surgery are my Protein shakes, Water, broth, Jello, decaf tea and coffee, and other no sugar, no calorie, no caffeine, no carbonation drinks,

    Diet and Pain relievers

Tylenol is fine. It's the NSAIDs that will eat your pouch. NSAIDs are things like ibuprofen, naproyxn sodium, meloxicam, and on and on. I have chronic pain, so I will just have to make due with Tylenol for the time being. Narcotics are ok for severe pain, like your after surgery pain.

    Nausea... Don't want to eat!

I use Unjury unflavored protein powder in the broth that I drink. It really is unflavored. I've had no issues with it tasting weird.

    Post Surgery Medications Help

My dr just kept me on all my meds, and gave me more for pain, nausea, and acid reduction. I'm allowed to swallow all of these whole, but I'm supposed to take them individually and space them out at least 10 mins apart. I don't take blood pressure or diabetes meds though, just antidepressants, allergy pills, and an asthma inhaler.

    Today's the day!

I'm up and around and doing well. The gas pains are terrible but nothing else hurts right now. I'm doing my best to walk and walk.

Me too! I'm at the hospital waiting in admissions. I'm ready to go!

    Vitamins and calcium

Yeah, jerk indeed. I wouldn't stop my vitamins because some a$$ who likely doesn't know anything about WLS said so while being a dismissive SOB. I'm someone who totally doesn't believe that supplements are good for people, but that doesn't include medical grade supplements designed for bariatric patients.

    I'm concerned!

From what I've read, you're probably more at risk for having a small baby than a miscarriage. The tiny new embryo doesn't need much to grow on. I was horribly nauseated for both my pregnancies and didn't eat well as a result, and the kiddos were fine. BUT, you need to get to your OB and your surgeon ASAP and do whatever you can to get the nutrition you need for a growing little one. I wish you good luck. P.S. There are some pregnancy tests that can tell if you are pregnant 6 days before your period is due, you might want to run out and grab one.

    Bypass process

I'm self-pay. I started with a seminar in the middle of March. 1st appt 4/1. Pre-op appt 5/7. And my surgery is tomorrow 5/19.
  15. Just had dinner, it was yummy. Bye bye real food for now, lol. I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight and tomorrow. I'm an imsomniac, and I don't want to take my ambien this close to surgery time. I figure I'm going to have enough mind altering chemicals in my head. Anyway, I'm just really revved to go. Here's hoping it all goes smoothly, or that I handle it with equanimity if it doesn't.
  16. @@pinkie 1 -- BTW, hello there in Oz. My sister lives in Melbourne.
  17. not before this week, and I've not had fun with it. I've switched to soy milk for a base from skim milk because of diarrhea, but I'm still having issues. When I called my NUT, she suggested the clear Isopure Protein drinks. I tried them, and they don't make me sick, but man, they taste bad. Anyway, I'm sure I'll do fine, or if I don't I'll have the community and my drs and NUTs to help. I have really loved a recipe for a bananas foster Protein shake that I got from a book by the bariatricfoodie.com lady. It is so yummy, I just need my digestive system to settle down and just enjoy it, lol.
  18. I'm not sure what to do. I'll call my Drs office in the morning. It seems that it is the actual protein supplement that is causing the issue and not just the milk because I switched to unflavored protein with broth today instead of milk based shakes. Any ideas?
  19. I'm ridiculously obsessed and have been weighing in multiple times a day while on the pre op diet. I'm overly anxious about making sure that I lose weight before surgery day. It's way too much. The people who are weighing in weekly are probably healthier, but I don't think I'm going to be able to resist daily weigh ins.
  20. Trying ISOPURE clear zero carb protein drinks from GNC per NUT's direction. Now the problem is just that I don't like the taste. I can live with that though, and it does seem like my tummy is tolerating these better. They're crazy expensive though.

    Liver Reduction Diet... SUCKS.

It's been hard for me too. You are not alone! We're going to make it thru and come out smaller on the other side.

Congratulations! I'm wishing you the best recovery possible. I can't wait to join you on this adventure. My surgery is on the 19th.

Having a hard time 1st day liquid diet

I'm on day 3. It's so HARD. But we can do this!! I'm drinking a lot of Mio flavored water and that helps. I've done some minor cheating too, which I'm not proud of, but at least the cheats have been to have a small salad with a tiny amount of vinaigrette. I'm allowed one meal of solid food a day and the shakes have been tearing up my tummy bad.
  25. I chose RNY because the stats show more weight loss over the long haul with it over the band and VSG. Or at least those are the stats that I've seen from my surgeon and elsewhere. I just really want to lose as much as I can and maintain it as much as possible.
