I can understand your frustration. Sounds like a talk with your nutritionist is in order. You said you've gotten back to the gym which is great. At times I'm surprised by my ability to eat (rarely) but as a result I really am measuring everything out. I bought a digital scale. I figure if I'm eating 3 to 3.5 oz then I'm not stretching anything out. Best of luck. Keep us posted. -

Your "bosses" broke what I think would have to be a law of some kind. I can't imagine it is okay for the higher up's to tell people why you took off time, especially being medically related. If you work for a corporation or have any sort of corporate structure, I'd check with HR asap. I had no intentions of telling anyone, except co-workers that I am close with. When others see you eating six teaspoons of applesauce, or walking slower in stretchy pants, it's hard to hide. I try to be honest with people when they ask about my weight loss and most people are either super supportive or just very intrigued. They have a lot of questions about the procedure itself and what you can/can't eat, etc... You can tell them as much or as little as you want to, it's your body and plan. I have yet to have anyone ask me "why" or give me any sort of negativity. My "general" response to people, especially if I don't know them that well is that "I had bariatric surgery. I had some health problems and after discussing it with my doctor(s), we decided this was the best course of action." Thanks Megan. Yes, HR was surprised and asked if I'd like to have them do or say anything. But wasn't looking to give my boss another reason to be irritable which she often is. Been back to work for a week and no questions other than whether I'm feeling ok. People are just impressed I'm bringing my lunch. They haven't checked the quantity of food apparently -

March 2015 Sleevers

Looking for some advice/thoughts. I return to work on Monday after 3 weeks off. I work in a very, very large office and told my immediate 2 bosses that I was "having surgery and expected to be off work 2 to 3 weeks". I didn't elaborate at all because it's really none of their business and as it turns out they couldn't keep their mouths shut and told at least one other person on the team who I used to report to who immediately asked me about it. With that I told a few other team members which brings to a total about 15 people that know that I was out for surgery. Post surgery plus the 2 weeks pre-op I have lost 19 pounds which means there is a noticeable weight loss. While that excites me I am also nervous about the questions I will face. I am normally a very open person so it feels awkward to smile and tell everyone I'm doing well and, yes, maybe lost a few pounds while out. Throw in eating 3 oz of cottage cheese for lunch and my cover is blown for sure. I hate the idea of being the topic of gossip. Anyone else out there not wanting to go public with the reason for your leave? How have you handled it? Help. -

You're probably exactly where you should be having just had your surgery. Ask your doctor about taking Zantac for the heartburn. If you're focused on protein drinks that should get you the protein you need and also counts as liquids toward your 64 oz. Have you tried Isopure? It has 40 grams of protein. I recommend the banana, orange, pineapple since I can actually detect a fruit flavor in there. They do also have a bit of an odd flavor but I get past it knowing how much protein is in there. It does get easier. I was sleeved on the 9th. Had 2 oz of halibut and 1 oz of couscous for dinner last night. It's a process. You'll do great. -

Stay strong. You worked hard to be able to have the surgery. You got through the pain and the fatigue of recovery. You need to keep your strength and energy up. So even though things don't sound appealing they are your fuel. Try Isopure for protein and put it on ice if you don't love it. I found the banana, orange, pineapple to have hints of those actual fruits and I think it's the best of the bunch. Focus on getting as close to the targets as you can. This won't last forever. But right now stick with getting the fuel that will keep you healthy AND produce the results I'm sure you want badly. You can do this. -

So it's not just me? I was jerking so violently it would definitely make me start over in trying to fall asleep. That lasted about 4 or 5 days after surgery then quit thank goodness.

4 days post op-should I be doing more?
HawksFan replied to Tamsboyd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about 10 days post op. I had a couple of days where I was edgy and wanted to tackle home projects but then I took a deep breath. This is probably the only time in my life where I have had the one goal of healing and getting stronger. I'm following the rules for food and water and I'm napping every day. The healing is going really fast. I'm thrilled and taking one day at a time. -

I've experienced something very different than a lot of you. I spent 3 nights in the hospital. Was supposed to be 2 but I had a little complication from the anesthesia. I had jello and broth while there. The day I got home I was immediately able to have purees. I was thrilled. I had a 1 week checkup with the dietician and surgeon and got the ok to move to soft foods. So soft chicken, a little string cheese, a few noodles. It's been so nice to have that variety. I removed the tape on my incisions yesterday and was really surprised to see my surgeon had glued my incisions closed. Too cool. I had my surgery done at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Very impressed. -

Keep up that positive attitude and surely the weight loss will speed up. And something I'm sure you can discuss with your doc. Saw that someone posted that when their protein intake went up the loss improved. Best of luck to you. Keep us posted. -

I still have a lot of the tape/sticky clear stuff around most of mine, but everyday i shower and i can tell more of the stuff is coming off around the edges and on most of them it is barely covering the actual cut now, but the cuts seem to be healing well..my 2 week post op is Tues. my surgeon just said to care for them by washing with mild soap and Water daily and pat dry, but im sure everyone is different on this. I have read forums where people have used neosporin (or similar) on theirs and its been ok, and also answers where people have said their surgeon said absolutely dont put anything on them.Thanks. Don't know why I'm impatient. And I have a 1 week follow up with my surgeon on Tuesday so I should sit tight til then. I think it's that I want to put neosporin on there for itching. But I'll ask instead. Good luck with your followup. Hope you're feeling good! -

How long has it taken for the tapes on your incisions to fall off? My incisions are itching and I'm nervous I'm going to scratch them in the middle of the night. 7 days post surgery here. -

Good luck. Hopefully you'll feel surprisingly good the first day like I did. Just don't overdo it and expect that the discomfort will be worse day 2 than day one when you're still under some of the influence of anesthesia and IV pain meds. Just take it easy and try to get a lot of rest. -

Getting ready to go home from the hospital. Had my surgery 3 days ago on Monday. Felt great the first day. I walked laps of the floor. But day 2 the pain really kicked in. Super hard getting in and out of bed and adjusting to sitting up. I was pretty miserable. The pain was more of a burning sensation. Wondering of you're felt the same. On day 1 we also learned that my bladder was not going to cooperate so after draining it with a catheter twice they put in a Foley. I was not happy. And there was talk of sending me home with that in. I protested and somewhat unrelated had a mini meltdown of tears over pain and exhaustion when my IV went on beeping for well over an hour in the middle of the night because the call button wasn't working. Other than that, has anyone had that surreal recognition that we now have only about 15% of our stomach left? I don't suppose it fully hits until you experience the restriction of the new stomach. But I'm a bit in awe that after all the prep leading up to this that it is now done. Still excited and nervous. -

I saw Dr. Eric Hungness with Northwestern hospital. So very impressed with the level of care. Dr. Hungness conducted the seminar I went to back in August. I was impressed and felt good about choosing this doctor and facility. -

Just got sleeved yesterday, 3/9. There was some sort of delay so the surgery was pushed back an hour and 45 min which led to a few more nerves. I don't remember post op at all. I just woke up in my room. No nausea - they used one of the behind the ear patches and adjusted the anesthesia so I was less likely to get sick. Pain is better than I expected. Just so unbelievably tired. I can't keep my eyes open to read. Will likely go home tomorrow but not until I can pee. That hasn't happened in a day and a half. But overall very good. Glad I did it.
