Surgery Buddies, who was sleeved 3/25/15 or that week
NewgirlfromMd replied to tamelntre's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I was sleeved 3/19 and I am gone 48lbs! Yay! I have had stalls along the way. Still working on getting enough fluids everyday. -
What ya eating tonight?
NewgirlfromMd replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made chicken breast in the crockpot with onions soup mix, zucchini "noodles" sautéed with mushrooms a little olive oil, seasoning, and a little asiago cheese. I also made roasted Brussel sprouts. I could only eat a little of the Zoodles & sprouts of course but my husband and kids loved them! I have to say it was all delicious! -
Drinking and eating at same time video
NewgirlfromMd replied to Bbinder2002's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good visual! Thanks for sharing! I am only a month out and although I stop drinking before meals & wait after, it has been my single biggest challenge since surgery. I have always drank with meals so it is very unnatural for me. I struggle to get all my fluids in so I'm a little impatient lol! I want to get back to sipping as soon as possible. Good reminder. -

1/2 of an Adkins Beef & broccoli frozen meal. I'm new to dense food and not very brave yet! The beef & broccoli were both soft and easy to chew. My doctor & nut told me I had to up my salt intake so I figured a frozen meal would do the trick. -
No my surgeon said only walk until week six because any pulling could cause a hernia. My calorie were about 500 and my new goal is 800-900. I'm not quite there yet.

I am 1 month out tomorrow. For the last few days I have been feeling weak, lethargic, even a little shaky. I'm not sure what's going on. Not to be TMI but I might be getting my cycle. I have PCOS so it's not predictable. My Nut put me on dense food this week with a calorie goal of up to 800-900. I'm not there yet, but I am getting my protein in. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!

did insurance pay but you still had pay cash?
NewgirlfromMd replied to libbyyum's topic in Insurance & Financing
I would check into a things again, a lot changes in 9 years! Your insurance should be able to tell you something, such as out of pocket max. Good luck. -
One month out, what are you eating, so bored with food right now.
NewgirlfromMd posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi sleevers ! I'm one month out & everything is going great! I feel good, I'm losing weight, and exercising again. I was actually getting hungry in the evenings, not head hunger but real hunger. My Nut said it was because the soft foods weren't staying with me anymore & I needed to move on to dense food. I'm curious what is everybody eating at this point? Or what did you eat at one month out? I am getting tired of eating the same foods over and over. I can't wait until I can add raw fruits & veggies back! I know I won't be eating much, but I miss being able to crunch on something. I want a crunchy cucumber! I am eating the same foods over & over. Egg for breakfast, tuna or deli meat for lunch, fish or chicken for dinner. ( I can't eat pork) If I have room I add a fork full of canned green beans or other well cooked vegetable. Sometimes I eat cottage cheese, but my Nut wants me to stop with the softer foods. It isn't a challenge to eat this way, it is just getting boring. I have noticed I can eat a bit more now too. Like I started out two weeks ago eating 1-1.5 oz of tuna and now I can eat 2.5 comfortably. I'm not really sure how much I should eat at this point. Please share what you are eating or did eat, if you feel comfortable share how much you eat too. Its hard to know what is "normal" as we get close to eating regular foods again. Of course our new diet with regular food is completely different then before surgery. Any new food suggestions would be appreciated too! Thanks! -
As already stated every surgeon is different. Mine had me on full liquids as soon as I got home on day 3. It was sugar free drinks, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding made with milk & protein powder. Stained soups ( cream of mushroom was my fav) smashed cottage cheese, ricotta, Greek yogurt. Three 4 oz protein shakes a day. A multivitamin, b12, d3, and calcium from citrate. Good luck!

How long was your pre-op diet?
NewgirlfromMd replied to smilingsarahjo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2 weeks all liquid diet for me and my BMI was over 50 also. I lost 16lbs in those two weeks and my surgery & recovery went as well as it could have. Good luck! -
I know how you feel! I have been in the upper 200's and in the 300's my whole adult life. It's so embarrassing to admit that, but I am finally starting to believe I will be under 200lbs again!
-
@@Chrystee Don't get discouraged! My weight stalled for about the same amount of time. I was also eating around 500 cal, and following the plan! I guess my body had to stabilize or get out of starvation mode. I don't know, but adding denser food ( as I was told to do) added more calories. I am now at about 800 calories and my weight started dropping again! I have lost 3lbs just since Monday yay! Have faith in the process & your nutritionist. Your weight will start going down again. Adding a little coffee back has helped as well! My surgeon gave me the approval & not to be TMI but it got things moving again thank God lol!

That's awesome! Glad your energy is so good! I'm really glad I found out what was causing my dizziness & how to fix it. It was really making it hard to be as active as I wanted to be. Yep you are right we are going to watch these numbers drop!
-
First check up with my surgeon today and I am a little over 3 weeks out! I am 30lbs down ( had a stall when I started phase 2 diet) and everything went really well! My doctor said I can have coffee again yay! Nut said I'm ready for denser foods. I wonder if anyone else had this issue.....I have had several dizzy or lightheaded spells. My doctor said it was because I am not getting enough sodium & I need to add more salt to my diet. I never would have guessed that! My nut said to start eating deli lunch meat. They also said I should lose 60lbs over the next 2-1/2 months! That seems impossible! I will do my best to make it happen by following the plan & exercising, but it is very hard to imagine that I will lose that much!

Thank you for asking this question & for all the people who answered! My family & I go on a lot of trips, especially road trips with two kids & our dogs. I plan to pack ahead what I can, but some of our trips are long. I'm glad there are some options in a pinch that won't throw my diet off track! @ Lipsticklady I am 3 weeks out and I am craving olives & pickles! I can't wait until I can have raw veggies again.

I'm Having a Breakdown
NewgirlfromMd replied to BackSpin81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are feeling this way. As stated above it is most likely the hormone changes. It's too early to think that way. I think we all have that fear of " will this work for me, and will I finally succeed at getting this weight off?" When you have been trying & failing to lose weight for a long time reaching your goals can feel like a fairy tale, something you want but can't believe will ever really happen. I speak for myself, but I know I'm not alone in that. Just follow your plan & remember why you chose to do this. It will work if we make good choices & follow the plan. Keep your head up & have faith in yourself that you can do this! -
Thanks! Yes I use fitness pal. I am still trying to navigate through this, and so far it has been pretty easy. I think I overreacted because when I tracked my food it was not a bad choice. I just don't want to let my feelings when I'm stressed determine what I am going to eat. I knew this was a challenge I had before surgery, and this was the first time it showed up since surgery. I will have to keep an eye on it for the rest of my life & that's just the way it is. I think if I had been more prepared (such as had my lunch with me) I wouldn't have considered getting food out. But looking at it today it's ok that I ate that food, it's just the circumstances that I made the decision that upset me. It was just plain soft cooked lean brisket, no sauce. I think the mental change is the hardest part of this. I just want to do everything the right way. I am 100% committed to this process, I am just a worrier.

I am being super honest here......I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and I have followed the rules really well, feeling good, and losing weight. But today has been so stressful from the moment I woke up! I think I made a decision to eat based on my stress and I'm feeling guilty. This was the first day back to school after the break & my girls were starting WW3 this morning, we are in the middle of selling a house and it has caused a lot of stress & tension lately, bonus my husband also woke up in a bad mood! My husband & I were driving past Mission BBQ and I knew we were passing it again on the way home right at lunch time. I justified to myself that there brisket is very lean & soft ( true) so that's what I got for lunch. I'm not sure that it was a bad food choice, and I barely made a dent. I will be eating it for days. I guess I'm not happy with myself for making an emotional decision about food :-(

Don't get discouraged yet, it's too early to worry. Just follow the plan, drink your fluids, get your protein, get some exercise ( walking is best in the beginning) and get a goodnights sleep. Weighing yourself too much can be depressing.

???? Calling all March Sleevers....let's support each other!????
NewgirlfromMd replied to time for june's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to schedule it! I start the day with my food, wait 30 mins and sip until 30mins before lunch (with a shake in there somewhere) I measure or at least pay attention to the oz. I sip all day up until I go to bed. Now that I am in phase 2 diet & I am back to normal life I do find it harder because I am fuller & busier but I had no trouble the first 2 weeks! I just need to prioritize better. Good luck! -

Yes I was in the bathroom all day lol! I had the worst splitting headache for the first two nights home and they told me I wasn't getting enough fluids, so I was determined to not let that happen again! Then the diarrhea......and I knew that causes dehydration so I felt like I had no choice but to drink more. I didn't want to be back in the hospital. I didn't realize I drank so much until I added it all up at the end of the day! I haven't done it since, in fact I am struggling right now to get 64oz in. -

NewgirlfromMd replied to time for june's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you can drink too much and stretch your stomach! I was 3 days out and I had not drank enough the day before plus I got diarrhea so to combat both I drank almost 100oz that day. My nurse & nutritionist said don't do it again! It will stretch out your stomach. -
I have been eating the regular condensed tomato soup made with skim milk since I was 4 days out and I haven't had any ill effects. But everybody is different.
-
How are you doing now? Have you tried lactaid milk, or lactose free milk? It is gentle on the stomach but still real milk. There is a medical grade protein you can order ( depending where you live I'm sure) called Unjury. They make a chicken soup flavour that you mix with warm water. It is pretty yummy and it is easy to drink. If you don't have access to Unjury, you may be about to find something else. Try different protein shakes until you find one you like. Good luck!

When did you have surgery? From what I have seen most people find that their wight is up after surgery due to all the IV fluids & surgery in general. Don't get discouraged yet!
