Bypass, Band, or Sleeve? Stats on Weight Loss Surgery by Type!
dhrguru replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had bypass. A sister had sleeve and never made goal. Reading boards, I sensed more people had eating complications with sleeve. Also preferred having the remains of my stomach stay with me, in case it's needed down the line. Two other family members had bands, one of whom's is failing now. While they both had success... I didn't want to me married to having fills and unfills sudden the line. My only concern with bypass wad hair loss. I've already list ~70 percent of my hair... Losing more wasn't an option at first. Since I was already living with hair loss, I figured I'd stick with that evil I knew. I also had to own certain truths I know about my body, how I recover and handle medicine and pain. Lumped all those thoughts together and bypass came out on top. -
I started couch to 5k today. I'd been walking/jogging for a few weeks before staring the program, so today I started at week 3, but the program still recorded me as doing week 1, day 1. Any one know a way around that?
-
thanks, i think I've figured it out. I'm 9 weeks out and started this app last week, but was walking two weeks prior to starting the app.

Has anyone ever got approved within 2-3 months?
dhrguru replied to wagyu's topic in Insurance & Financing
My first appt was 3/4 and I had RNY 4/28. -
I'm 9 weeks post op, but didn't start regular exercise until some where around 6 weeks. I started c25k, and tomorrow I will start in circuit training on off c25k days. I average about 45 minutes of exercise 5 days a week. Have little interest in doing any more.

Brand New to Bariatric Pal and the Gastric Bypass process!
dhrguru replied to ebezi7908's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi and welcome! Glad you made this choice for yourself, any questions all away!! -
I'm sorry this is happening to you. What surgery did you have? You're further post op than i am, so I can't estimate if it will or won't get better. I assume you've been in contact with your surgical team?

FLMA How/When to notify your employer
dhrguru replied to thingirlinsideme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd submit the paperwork now. My job charges FMLA automatically after 4 consecutive days absent. Considering I filled had the doctor fill out the paperwork. (I also happen to be the HR manager, so no worry about confidentiality for me). -

Something stuck in pouch opening?
dhrguru replied to ReadyFourChange's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hmm, that seems like a long time. Anytime I've had something stuck it cleared within an hour tops. Deli ham (Virginia ham specifically, doesn't sit well with me, but it's never been stuck). Have you been walking? I always have to walk when I get that feeling. -
I'm in Philly... Northwest section. Am two months post op.

HELP? DISTAL RNY DO YOU HAVE MORE COMPLICATIONS AND LOOSE LESS?
dhrguru replied to STARTING NEW's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgery was 4/28. My SW was 315, today I'm 290. So I've lost 25# in the 8 weeks since surgery. My doc is not concerned about my rate of weight loss. (My HW was 335, I lost 20 pre op, so I'm down 45# overall) -
HELP? DISTAL RNY DO YOU HAVE MORE COMPLICATIONS AND LOOSE LESS?
dhrguru replied to STARTING NEW's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Proximal or distal refers to how much of the intestines is bypassed in the procedure. Though 150cm, to my understanding is proximal, not distal. I'm not sure what number signifies distal though. My bypass was 250cm, so as greater amount of intestine is bypassed. My doc said I should have great weight loss... I think I'm on the low end of average. I've not had any complications, and haven't experienced dumping, but also haven't tested it. Complications of a distal bypass could be greater malabsorption of nutrients since there is less 'space' and/or time food is spent in the intestines to absorb nutrients. -
Which surgery did you have. I'm kind of at a similar place-- I'm 8 weeks out RNY, and am bored with eating/have no appetite. Outside of eggs for Breakfast i'll eat turkey sausage, oatmeal or cold Cereal. I don't do the cereals often, but do have then occasionally in small amounts just to offer variety. I don't like yogurt so breakfast get boring fast for me. lunch I'll eat tuna fish over spinach, with a baby bell cheese; or sometimes I buy a grilled chicken/pepper/avocado wrap and just eat the insides of the wrap. Lunch meat/cheese & tomato.Or a turkey burger w/cheese (no bun) and sliced peppers and tomato on the side. dinner I'll have whatever Protein I'm cooking for the family, pork chop, chicken, etc. I just usually leave out the starch (rice etc) from my plate. I'll also eat spaghetti [meat] sauce, w/ no Pasta, but add ricotta to it. Tonight I'm baking chicken fingers for dinner. I don't snack much, but unsweetened apple sauce or canned peaches are my go to's. Hope that gives you some ideas.

HI! Dr. Meilahn was my surgeon too. How'd your first visit go? -
Yes, I still burp. Burping is something that help me figure out I'm full. If I can't burp, there's no more air, or space in my pouch... So I know to stop. I also burp when I swallow Water to fast, so burping kind of helps me regulate intake.

2 week follow up appointment-feeling low
dhrguru replied to MsTodd's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow, I'm surprised. At one week post op I lost 8#s... And one month, I lost another 10, grand total of 18 in month one. At each appt my doc was happy with my progress, supportive. That totally changed my attitude of beating myself up for not dropping big #'s like I've heard about. Doc's need to realize the impact thier words have on us!! I don't measure consistently, my NUT isn't too concerned about it either. As long as I'm getting my protein/vitamins..., and eliminating sugar and fried foods they are good. Sounds like he is judging you by others failures! -

recovery time questions
dhrguru replied to India928's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 3 weeks off, planned for two, definitely needed 3. Going back I still had incisional pain, but it was bearable in my non physical job. Immediately after surgery I kept a notebook to record my Fluid intake and keep track of when the meds I was on were taken. Rested, and walked... Nothing else. I'm six weeks out now, feel great! -

What made you finally want Weight Loss Surgery?

When I saw a surgeon that I had confidence in.... Saw two previously that I didn't click with. -
My butt it's aching something awful today! But I'll take it in stride because yesterday I rode my bike for the first time in about 2 years, and it wasn't nearly as difficult as I remember it was last time I rode it. We did about 4 miles too. Best of all, I was able to keep a promise to my son that we'd ride together once I was healed from surgery.
