    Hi. I'm Dawn

Calcium- what does it mean for us?

That study did not take into account the complexities of bariatric patients nutritional needs. Also, it says that there was little benefit for [regular] women over 50 to take calcium, since there is a diminishing benefit vs. Risk.
  5. "Was everyone else able to eat meat, rice, pizza, Pasta, etc etc this early in their recovery?" Yes I can eat meat: chicken, fish, steak pork. But I limit what I eat-- obviously eating the same amount of any of those that I ate before surgery is counter intuitive. Can I eat pizza/pasta- I don't know. I've eaten those things for 38ish years of my life and they are not going anywhere. They can wait till I reach my goal...and maybe by then i won't want it. This method is so much a bout self-discipline!! " I'm fairly certain I'll be the 20% of people who just gain all the weight back and don't lose much to start with." This is a self-defeating thought. If you come out of the gate not believing you can, then that's what you will do.
  6. Help me with this. My work out pants are funky. Even after running them thru the wash twice, I still smell some musk to them. And when I wear them again that odor comes out stronger, especially with the sweat from my routine. The pants are polyester/spandex, with"coolmax" gusset lining. My sports bra/tops wash and smell fime afterwords...it's just these pants. They were getting to big, so it's time to shop for new stuff... But is there a material I should try and avoid or seek out??

    Period?

My sister had to be put to sleep. The only pain I recall was when she measured my uterus...omg... reminded me of contractions!
  8. Will I ever not feel like an impostor shopping in the non-plus size section? I keep thinking a sales clerk will redirect me to the plus sizes.

Me too! The plus size clothes are on automatic pilot for me, but don't work anymore. I do feel like an imposter in the regular-size section!

Went to Bealls to buy a summer dress today. I was looking at size 14 and felt self conscious that people would wonder why am I looking at dresses obviously too small for me! They FIT, bought 2.

    Hi. I'm Dawn

Hi Dawn! Welcome and congrats on your decision! My only guess...age. I did weight watchers after the birth of my youngest son... Seemed almost effortless. In 4 months I'd lost nearly 60#s. No matter what I did after the that I couldn't lose again. You'll lose this time, for sure. Now you just need to find that motivation to get that active once again.

    Pregnancy

what is PCOS? poly cystic ovarian syndrome
  11. Glad you were seen and its being treated. I got a small infection in one incision too, but it didn't need packing. Thank goodness, saw my husband go thru that... Ouch!

    Period?

Omg, while I feel so bad for you, you had me giggling like a school girl. Great visual!
  13. What stage are you in? When I hear people day I'm sick of X, that usually means head hunger to some degree. You want variety, not necessarily to satiate a genuine hunger. Just my two cents... Jello pudding maybe? In my early stages I ate corn beef hash, mushy, but still has Protein. I also liked turkey meatballs with sauce and ricotta / mozzarella. I also ate cream of wheat and added Protein powder. I was less concerned about carbs very early out, and still am not militant about them.

    Calf cramp

What can be done to alleviate soreness/tightness in your calf? I consistently get a Charlie horse in my left calf muscle, and the bad ones linger for days. It feels like I'll get another one any minute.

    Dumping, don't get it.

How many grams of sugar/carbs was in the yogurt?
  16. I didn't realize you were in Philly too. We should start a little circle of support.
  17. I live in Mt Airy, would be happy to support you! PM if interested.
  18. LOL, funny what we celebrate now! Glad it's moving... Hope it stays that way!
  19. I agree with @Babbs. Though it took me a minute to be ok with getting rid of clothes (out of fear of this not working) I'm glad I did. Alcoholics don't hold on to a bottle of liquor just in case they fall off the wagon... I see this no different. Bras are my pet peeve. I get they can be pricey, But they do so much for how your clothes fit. I don't mind buying bras at each Stage as I lose, I can get by with just 2. I've had every size from a 46 band, now slowly moving to a 38 band. Just like the op, I got rid of all my summer clothes, they'll be useless next year. My yoga pants were my frumpy clothes, I only keep the pair I wore on surgery day, so I can do my monthly comparison pics.
  20. No part of today's outfit is "plus sized". #winning

    Period is late? Help!

I'd test again in a few days. In my experience, an OB won't see you until you have a positive test. I was tested morning of surgery too. Your cycle will do many Unusual things post op, so be ready.

When did you buy new clothes?

I think you need to take an afternoon and try on some stuff. Do you have a Burlington coat factory near you? Or Marshall's or TJ Maxx? I won't pay more than $20 for any item, since i know we transition out of sizes quickly; those stores have decent prices. Right now I've been moving down a size after a month and a half. I feel like I'm getting a good number of wears out of things before I need a new size, and I'm buying only essentials. I started in a 26 and had clothes on hand down to size 20. I'm now in an 18 pants and 16 tops. Old navy is good for me now since I can shop in the store. I've tried good will and thrift stores, was lucky to score a winter coat for $7, but other wise nothing. Plus sizes there are hard to find something decent without 20 hours of searching. And, oddly, I'm an 18 in Old navy jeans today, but the same 18's from old navy in a thrift store wouldn't fit. BTW, I hate their skinny fit!

    The last supper...

I had two, my favorite home cooked meal and fast food. Home cooked meal was Mac and cheese, roast chicken and rice & peas. Fast food was shake shack, double cheeseburger, with cheese fries and a strawberry shake. The idea of the fast food gives me an upset stomach thinking about it now!

    First weight in!

Congrats! I'm sure you were walking on air.
  25. I would get a new PCP. Post op you'll need a physician to monitor your blood work. I'd have no confidence in someone who didn't agree with my decision to steer me on the right course of post op health. I never discussed having WLS with my pcp, only sent an electronic referral request to see the surgeon, which she sent through.
