Experiences with Dr. Helmuth Billy?
chattykathywlc replied to photo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
does anyone know what he charges for fills? I was banded in Glendale, but my fills cost 450.00 a little pricey so looking for another option. Thanks, Kat -
Hi I had the same problem with my hubby until one day I broke down crying about my weight and self loathing. He said he never knew I felt so bad about myself and my weight. He said that opened his eyes. That was Thanksgiving weekend and I had my surgery 1-16-08. He has been a jewel, so supportive and excited about my weight loss. We were in the grocery store today and he had a big smile on his face, I asked why. He said you have lost sooo much weight, you look so good. I was good to see him enjoy it! Open up and be honest with him about how much this means to you and hopefully he will see the light...good luck! Kat

Dr. said "no more protein shakes!?!?"
chattykathywlc replied to bigbaby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep my Doctor doesnt want me to do protein shakes either. Too high in calories and go thru too quickly! -
it blends my shakes and crushes ice much better than any blender that Ive ever had. Makes great Margaritas too!!!

Yes I know the temptation of GS cookies, the tagalongs. My daughter is a GS soooooo we will have some in the house :cool2: But I hope I can stay away from them. One thing my daughter is doing is this, if ppl dont want cookies because they are on a diet, eating plan etc but they want to support her efforts, they can order some and I am sending them to my nephews and their units in Iraq/Kuwait. Ppl have really responded well and I know they will enjoy them over there more than I need them!!! :rolleyes2: Kat

For those with BMI 35-40?
chattykathywlc replied to ronwifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im glad you posted this ? I was 39 BMI when banded on 1-16-08. My insurance wouldnt cover it cuz I didnt have 2 co-morbidities. What they want to wait till Im sick with Diabetes, heart disease etc before they help me? Stupid. I was a self pay. Im lucky cuz my sister was banded first and my Mom had RNY last year so I have great support from my family, my hubby is great too. I have not told my hubby's family though. On Christmas Eve, I was going to tell them, but they got in a conversation about how the new "fad" was WLS and that it was out of control, anybody could get it just ask for it, the easy way out etc. I was fuming but my hubby just squeezed my hand out of support and i knew I wouldnt tell them. I did chime in that wls-"saved my Moms life" and they kind of shut up! Another issue Im having is work/friends. I have only told a few friends with mixed reactions. Im tall so I carry my weight well. Many said youre not that big-how much bigger do you want me to get> I already cant fit into regular clothes. 2x are getting small on me. I have no energy and felt like I was getting sicker each year. So no I didnt want to get any bigger. Some friends were very supportive-thank God! I go back to work this Friday and am a Nurse, so I work mostly with women :rolleyes2: Many are great but there are a few that drive me crazy. So once they find out I will get the lecture, "thats so drastic" etc. But Im going to stand strong and expect it and know that I did this for my health and to look/feel better. I wont let a stranger judge me on my decision. I know this will work so they can eat their heart out when Im thin!!! :Dancing_chief: Kat -

lol "shart" I thought I had to fart but I sh*t instead LOL thus a shart -
I wear an 11 and its so hard to find cute shoes that fit properly. I have 3 kids and with each pregnancy I grew 1/2 size started at 9.5 now up to 11 BLAH Its bad enough not being able to enjoy shopping for clothes in "regular" sizes, but also not being able to find shoes when out with friends really sucks! I am to be banded on 1-16-08 so I will be in the "regular sizes" in clothes soon and hopefully shoes too!!!! A size 10 would be fine!

I see many patients who have post operative gas pain which refers to their shoulder and neck. Its very painful. I usually suggest, walk, no straws with liquids cuz youre bringing in more air to your tummy, no carbonated drinks for same reason and drink warm liquids. Im not sure when your surgery was? It usually happens within a day or two. Also ask your Surgeon if you can take Mylicon (Simethicone) 4 times a day...that usually does the trick...if it is gas. IF pain persists see your MD right away! Good luck Kat

Oh but so ready to become a loser!!!
chattykathywlc replied to ThunderWheels's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good Luck TW I am new to this forum. I actually have my first consult appt with a Dr. In Glendale, CA on Thursday. Im excited. I have been in such a good mood since I decided I wanted to do this. I too am 40 and seems like all of the sudden my body is tiring out. I want to be active again and am looking forward to it. My Mom is 67 and had RNY last year and has lost over 100lbs. She really suffered for years with the extra weight and was basically house bound. My Dad had to take care of her. You wouldnt believe her transformation! Besides looking great, she is so much more active....no she isnt running marathons, but she is able to enjoy activities with her kids and Grandkids. Its nice to have her back! I want to be able to play and keep up with my kids and enjoy my passions which I am too afraid to pursue any longer due to my weight...skiing, horseback riding, white Water rafting etc. I feel like I have renewed hope and seeing others success is so inspiring...so keep posting!! good luck and I will keep you posted!
