TammyDTM replied to LisaPunkinHead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@LisaPunkinHead Maybe some "softer" foods would be best. Yogurt, soft scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, mashed banana, mashed potatoes, etc. And don't eat more that 1/4 cup of anything. That's what I was told anyway. -

Thick saliva and sweet taste in mouth
TammyDTM replied to TammyDTM's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Liz5012 So, I cut out the pre-sweetened Protein drinks and stopped eat "sugar-free" foods. I have totally eliminated fake sugar from my diet and the slimy saliva and foamy saliva problem in gone. It feels good not to have a slimy mouth! I'm glad I figured it out. It was driving me bananas! Now I am just dealing with extreme fatigue! The nurse told me today to drink Gatorade and eat fruit... -
@@changes1 I am 4 weeks out and am still suffering total exhaustion whether I am active or not. Called the nurse today and she said to drink G2 Gatorade and eat fruit. Ok, I'll do that, but I'm going to see my family doctor if I am not feeling better tomorrow. This is getting scary.

@@downsizingdiva My doctor has me taking an additional dose of Omeraprazole in the late afternoon. That has helped me as of late. Maybe talk to your doctor about increasing your dosage?

Congratulations! I know you are nervous, waiting for that day fills you with so much anxiety. Just find someone to talk to about it. Talk their ears off! Watch youtube videos of others who have gone through VSG surgery. The videos and talking helped me not to be so nervous. Good luck!

@@CanyonBaby That sounds like great advice! I am going to try that!

I am 4 weeks post-op. I never had pain or discomfort from my incisions. I did have terrible gas and spasms until my first BMvmt 4 days after surgery. After that it's been hit and miss with the spasms. Had some issues with artificial sweeteners, but things are finally looking up! Hang in there!

food and why I love/hate it.
TammyDTM replied to Bonawanabfree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@downsizingdiva How do you feel about your Protein drinks? Are you drinking your protein? Is the sweet flavor getting unbearable? That was my problem. I cut out the fake sugar sweetened drinks, yogurt, Jello, etc and I now crave food and enjoy eating it. Try it? -
I am almost 4 weeks post-op and this has opened my eyes to the possibility of pitfalls and set-backs. I didn't think you could take in all of that food until about a year out. This is a good warning to us newbies not to be too anxious to "eat what we want." It is a good idea to journal our food and beverage intake on a daily basis so that we can be accountable and be able to go back and see what we did right or wrong over a particular period of time. Do you think it is a good idea to go back to basics for a few days after a binge? By "back to basics" I mean, a few days of high Protein, no carbs and lots of Water.

food and why I love/hate it.
TammyDTM replied to Bonawanabfree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Bonawanabfree I get that "tired of sweet flavors" feeling. I had to quit drinking the pre-sweetened Protein drinks and drink mixes. For me, I think the artificial sugars were keeping me from wanting to eat anything. I love savory food. When your food choices are broader you will be able to season and spice up your meals for more variety in flavor. I am 4 weeks post-op on Wednesday and will move to soft foods stage tomorrow (previously on pureed stage). So many more food options will be available to me then. I am so looking forward to it! Be patient. It will get better! -

I didn't tell anyone about my surgery except for my spouse, mother and children. That limits who I have to talk to about this journey. That being said, they are all supportive and they care, they listen. I am almost 4 weeks post-op and every day brings new challenges and new accomplishments. I talk my poor husband's ears off some days about what I am going through. It's funny, I'll say to myself in the morning, "I am not going to talk about myself at all today," but I do. He listens. He makes suggestions, he congratulates. Find "your person" and talk their ears off! If "your person" is not home with you, perhaps you can find someone here in the forums to bond with. Read the posts, I'll bet you find someone who feels exactly as you do. Things will get better...

GNC unflavored whey protein powder is sweetener free, I havent tried it, so no idea if it's easy to take down, but i have tried their other flavors. and you could talk to your surgeon and try a different PPI..Im taking pantaprazole, its working well for me..there are several of them, and they work differently, it may be an option. And i also use Gas X sometimes as well. And yes, i had a bad taste too, it will go away soon..it was weird, Water was actually sweet to me too. Good luck to you, best wishes Thanks for the suggestions! I tried Isopure unflavored whey protein powder over the weekend and it is a much better option for me. I have not had any artificial sweeteners since Friday and that sweet taste is gone from my mouth today. Also, I have noticed that the "foamies" have gone away also. I have never been an artificial sweetener user until I started this journey. I don't think my body likes those particular chemicals. I even tried Stevia, that didn't work either... Anyway, things are looking up!

@@CanyonBaby I am taking antibiotics for a sinus infection right now. I just have to make sure that I take my Calcium citrate two hours before or after my antibiotic dose. Otherwise, I can take sinus pressure medicine as usual. That has a pain reliever in it.

Nausea Anxiety Depression insomnia
TammyDTM replied to downsizingdiva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@downsizingdiva I'm sorry for your discomfort and regret. Have you spoken with your nutritionist about this? Have they suggested smaller meals? Are you spacing your liquids and your solids adequately? I was developing an intolerance to artificial sweeteners which are in all of the ready to drink Protein beverages and most of the powdered mixes. I have since switched to Isopure unflavored and I stopped eating sugar-free this and that and am doing much better. I enjoy cooking so I am looking forward to the variety of foods and seasonings that I will be able to eat again soon in moderation. If you don't cook, perhaps someone close to you can help with food prep? I hope that these feelings of regret will soon pass. If not, maybe you should seek counseling. -
@@ishy1985 If you want to have the surgery and you want to be successful, you will do what is required. Simple as that! Good luck!

Ironically, Protein drinks. Artificial sugars.
-
@@duffslove Hi there! Thanks for asking! I, too, have a terrible taste in my mouth. I think it is from the artificial sweeteners in the Protein drinks. I can't stand artificial sweeteners of any kind. As far as weight loss goes, I am doing well. I've been at the same weight for almost a week now. It has been hard to get the protein in because of the sweetness issue. I am open to suggestions for non-sweetened Protein Drinks or powders. Also, have had frothy saliva and my stomach feels frothy, if that makes sense. I'm on Omerprazole twice daily and I still have to chew a couple of Rolaids during the day. I'm going through some things, but all in all I am glad I had he surgery. I know that things will improve.

Totally frustrated and don't know what to do
TammyDTM replied to yoyolifechange11's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@yoyolifechange11 I'm sorry to hear about your marital troubles. Strength will follow the tears. May I suggest that when your husband gets up to begin his day, before he can ask you what your strategy is for weight loss is for the day, be gone. I mean, get out of the house before he arises and take a brisk walk. Work up a sweat so that he can see the sweat. Sometimes a man needs a visual. You know what I mean? After he sees that you have already taken initiative to begin your day, when he asks the inevitable question, smile and say something like, "I feel really good after my walk, I'll go to the gym and talk with the staff about a fitness plan." The thing is, even if you get the surgery, you will need a fitness plan. And why not implement one now? Stay positive. Have confidence in yourself. Don't let anyone steal your joy nor your faith. Put a smile on your face and keep it moving! Good luck to you...
