Band almost cost me my life

I was banded on 2/17/15. Since I had the surgery, I have had nothing but problems. I was in and out of ER every other day to get IV fluids because I was constantly vomiting. I couldn't even sip water. I had no energy and wasn't even able to take care of my own basic needs. I called my surgeon's office and they kept telling me I needed to give it more time. After a month though, I could no longer take it. I demanded they get me in for an emergency appointment, which they did. I convinced the surgeon it needed to come out immediately. Luckily, he listened. After surgery he came in to talk with me about how things went. He said once he opened me up, he couldn't believe what he found. He said there was so much inflammation and tons of fluid that he had to drain. Not only that, but there was a bag of pus he had to release and my port had cemented itself on my liver. He said he'd never seen anything like it before, especially since it was only placed a month ago. If I hadn't insisted on removing the band, things would have only continued to get worse and would have eventually led to death. I did years and years of research before making the choice to have the band placed. I thought it would be the tool to help me lose some of my weight in a slower, more healthy way. Please, if you are considering this surgery be very careful. Make sure you listen to your body and have a supportive surgeon in case things do go wrong.

    Constant Nausea/Vomiting

Yes, so nauseated I can't even keep water down. I've gone to the ER every couple of days to get IV fluids because I've been so sick. The only time I ever feel well is when I'm asleep. I have 4, 3, and 1 year old little boys and I haven't been able to take care of them at all. I think I'm going to call my surgeon tomorrow and tell him I want it out. I need my life back, even if I stay overweight.

    Constant Nausea/Vomiting

My band was placed on 2/17/2015. (Hasn't even been a month yet.) and I've been so nauseous that I can't even bring myself to sip on water. The doctor didn't fill it yet either. Is it normal to be so sick all the time? All I can do is either sit in a chair of lay down. Please help!!!

Can't wait for my 1st fill

I was banded on 2-17. My doctor told me to go back to a regular diet after 1 week of clear liquids. I had a traumatic beginning, so I wonder why I was allowed back on normal food so quickly. I originally had the band along with gastric plication but my stomach stopped functioning and they had to remove the plication, so I spent 11 days in the hospital. Since having the plication removed, I feel as though I'm hungry all the time! I eat about a cup at a time but then an hour later, I'm hungry again. They won't do my first full until the 31st. I'm scared I spent all this money, time away from my 3 young children (4,2 &1) and went through all this pain for something that isn't helping enough. I don't want to go back to where I was. I've lost 10 lbs, which is great. But why am I still hungry ALL the time?

ANYONE ELSE GET PLICATION WITH LAP-BAND?

I had both done and had a horrible reaction to the plication. After having it done, my stomach stopped functioning (it would no longer empty). Eventually after 8 days in the hospital, they removed the plication and left the band in place. I spent 11 days total in the hospital. I just got home a few days ago and feel a little sore, but great. Praying the lap band on its own will work for me.

    Banded on 2/17/15

I had the lap band and gastric plication on 2/17. However, when I woke up from the surgery I knew something was wrong. I was in severe pain and couldn't stop vomiting. They encouraged me to take very small sips of water and try to walk as much as possible. I thought they knew what they were talking about, so I tried my hardest. However, I was still vomiting profusely. After the first day, they sent me for a scan with contrast. It appeared everything was moving correctly, but my stomach was emptying very slowly. They found nothing wrong, but I couldn't stop vomiting. I couldn't even keep one extremely small crushed piece of ice down. They tried all nausea medicines and nothing worked. Finally on day 8, they sent me for another scan. Before I drank the contrast this time though, they took an xray. Guess what was still sitting in my stomach 8 days later? The contrast from the original test! The surgeon then did an upper scope to see if he could fix anything from inside without another surgery. When he finished the scope, he said that for some reason my stomach had quit functioning and the only solution would be to undo the plication. I was heartbroken, but knew I had no other option. As soon as the plication was removed, the vomiting ended. Now though, I feel as though I can eat too much food and still be hungry. I haven't had a fill yet, still too soon. But after all the pain I went through I was hoping I wouldn't feel so hungry already.
