Any sleevers from Nov.24 2015
MarciaN replied to im with the dj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on Nov 24th and feel that my weight loss is slow (probably no matter what we lose we think something is not quite right LOL) I've lost 16 pounds in the 6 weeks since surgery. That is exactly what I was losing on my preop diet plan except I'm eating half the calories. I purchased nectar unflavored Protein which has 10 g of protein for 40 calories. If I think I might be low on protein for a day I try to mix this in to whatever I am eating (ie low fat greek yogurt; broth; turkey chili etc.) It doesn't really have that much of taste. Sometime (but not often because my dr doesn't want me to do a lot of shakes) I will only do 1/2 of the serving of the shake and add the Nectar. That way I get a lot of protein without all the SWEET taste. I'm only supposed to be eating 600 calories a day so almost everything I eat is protein. Shrimp is yummy and has a lot of protein without a lot of calories. Good Luck IM! -
Post Surgery People - How to make those first weeks post-op easier?
MarciaN replied to songsmith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had someone take me to a store everyday so I could walk and hold on to a cart. I think exercise gets the blood going and aids in healing. At first I was pretty tired after my walk but each day I gained more strength. Good luck! -
I started to feel much better on day 5. I was still tired by the pain was basically gone. I think the pain was worse the first 2.5 days. After day 5 I could lay on my side and not be in pain (sometimes just felt like I did a lot of sit ups.) You'll be surprised how quickly you'll start feeling like your old self. Remember, sleep and rest when your body tells you to. Drink, drink, drink. Good luck Marcia

Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
MarciaN replied to notforthefaint's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is sometimes hard to not be discouraged. I lost more each month pre-op than I have since surgery. I am hoping that my body is just a little bit in shock and that it will start picking up. I'm only 6 weeks out from surgery but have only lost about 4 pounds in the last 5 weeks. On preop I was losing about 8 pounds a month-- and I'm eating half the calories (only at 600 per doctor's directions.) I know I have done great up to this point but am a little disappointed that I was doing better before surgery. (Definitely not trying to complain...I just needed to share my frustration.) -
Long term side effects... Is it all worth it?
MarciaN replied to ladypineapple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a long pre-op (almost 10 months). I had already lost 65 pounds so I wondered the same thing. If I was losing weight on my own why do the surgery. I ended up doing some research and while they say that the only 4% of people keep the weight off- when it comes to someone who is obese the number goes down to about 1%. I didn't think those were very good odds! I had my surgery a little over a month ago. I have had absolutely NO side effects. I feel great--don't really feel any different except my meal size is now restricted. Since I was on a preop diet for 1- months- this doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Ultimately, the decision is up to you. There is no guarantee that you wont have side effects but there is also no guarantee that you will. -
Any Oct 6 Sleevers out there?
MarciaN replied to MarciaN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am pretty sure this t resort for each of us. thank heavens we have each other. we are all human. Just remember that the only difference between a success and failure is the amount of times the successful person got up, dusted themselves off and tried again. Even if we have a blip--we just need to get back on track as soon as possible. And forgive ourselves. That is the biggest thing. Realizing that we aren't perfect but that is OK but we are amazing! Don't forget that, Shakti! -

i started on ths journey the begining of March 2015 i am down almost 85 pounds i actually think that i might make my goal of losing 100 pounds in a year. i am not a big loser---just a consistant one. thanks everyone for going on this journey with me, New Year's resolution??? Just to continue to remember to put myself first. Try to own and embrace what I am feeling rather than trying to appear perfect and eat away my feelings. Say "yes" to myself more often and "no" to things that I don't want to do. Continue to enjoy my own company. Remember what an amazing woman I am. What are some of your resolutions? -

So proud of you that you didn't turn to food during this difficult time. Glad you turned to us! We all need each other. Remember to take care of yourself during this time (something that sometime we have a hard time doing.) People are human--own your feelings and work through them and know I am here for you. -
Anyone's first surgery?
MarciaN replied to sarinemaniss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to start eating eggs & cottage cheese after one week. My first meal was almost the entire egg (scrambled). My swelling has gone down and now I can typically eat 2 eggs (almost) or about 1/2 cup of food. Today I finally get to start eating vegetables and low fat cheese. I am excited! -

I actually brought Benadryl strips with me because I was told that some people get rashes from the drugs given during surgery. Just sip that Water to help get all the "stuff" out of your system. -

Making a sleeve friendly frittata for Christmas breakfast- package of frozen chopped spinach (thaw and squeeze out excess moisture) Spread in a 9x13 pan that was sprayed with Pam. Beat 6 eggs, add a 1/2 c of parmesan and 1/2 c of low fat cheddar. Pour over spinach. Add some pepper to the top. Cook in 325 oven for 15 minutes. Pull out of oven and immediately top with additional cheese. Today I get to start eating cheese so it will make a wonderful Christmas breakfast. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a fantastic Christmas! -

You might be surprised that you don't experience any of the problems that folks talk about here. I have not been nauseated. I did not have the gas pains that people talk about and my pouch doesn't get "angry". Hopefully you will just sail through. -

I had to do the shots for 14 days after the surgery. The first time I had to give myself a shot I had a panic attach! (I know, I'm a baby) But--- I did it and each shot got a little easier. Not saying it was the pain of the shot--I think it was just the idea of having to give it to myself. But-- I did it. You will be able to do it too. We have committed to this journey and can do anything to make it happen. Good Luck! -
Down 26 Pounds in Six Weeks but Disappointed
MarciaN replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks out and am thrilled that I've lost 13 pounds. When we get to goal weight and look back this will be a blip in our lives. The longer it takes the better habits I have formed. And my skin will have a better chance of snapping back....maybe LOL. Rejoice that the scale is going in the right direction! -
Anyone's first surgery?
MarciaN replied to sarinemaniss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Nov 24th. It was my first surgery too! After I got my IV in and spoke to the doctor I was wheeled into the operating room. I got on the table and they attached these little electrodes to my body. They were talking to me, put an oxygen mask on me and that is all I remembered until the nurse woke me in recovery. She told me everything was fine. It was shocking how in my mind I had just gotten into the operating room. Pain was tolerable. It was worse for about 4-5 days. After that is just felt like a did a lot of sit-ups. I just started back to work yesterday and am doing great. I can keep everything down and don't seem to have any problems that I hear some folks have. All in all, I am pleasantly surprised how well I am recovering and how quickly I started feeling better. It is always frightening to do something you have never done before. That is normal. Only you can make your decisions. From my point of view, being just "a little" on the other side, I can say that it was not nearly as bad or painful as I had thought it would be. Just do a lot of reading and ask a lot of questions. Remember, we are all here for you. -

I made it through surgery with flying color. Tomorrow I go back to work. Since I have been doing a preop diet since March 1st, I am not losing a huge amount of weight like those who were sleeved the same day as me. I am ok with this. I've almost lost 80 pounds. That is over my half way Mark! I am surprised how fast 9 1/2 months has gone. Can't wait to see what the next year brings. (Also looking forward to get more options on what I get to eat....) -

Hi, everyone. Had my 2 week checkup. Been released to go back to work. Have lost 10 pounds since surgery. Not a huge amount but since I lost a lot on preop I am happy with it. I am getting my energy back and finally get to eat some meat! Overall I have had a great recovery and seem to tolerate everything I have tried so far. Am so glad to be on this side of surgery. Doing the happy dance. -
Frequently Asked Questions
MarciaN replied to Lilee84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Nov 24- so almost 2 weeks ago. The first 4 days are the worst. But that being said they give you pain meds so things are very tolerable. I took meds in hospital (2days) and took one dose at home and that is it. The first week it feels like you did a bunch of sit ups...basically sore . After that I rarely even notice any difference at all. All incissions were basically healed in about 10 or so days. I was able to get all my liquids in after about 5 days. I have been pleasantly surprised how well everything has gone. Before my surgery I was really worried. I remember someone posting that most folks have a distorted view of things because when folks are having problems they typically post a topic. Those folks who have an easy time don't usually post- plus they don't want to make the folks who are having a difficult time feel bad. I am 58 so I was worried that I might have a more difficult time but I did not find this to be true. I think it is extremely important to realize that complications can happen. But not having complications is probably more likely. -
