  1. I did it!!! I have lost 100.6 pounds. HOLY Moly! I did it!!! I have lost 100.6 pounds. HOLY Moly!
  2. So--- on March 1st of 2015 I walked into the introductory meeting on WLS. I walked out of the meeting and immediately gave up caffeine, soda, & alcohol. Started tracking and doing my pre-op diet. Fast forward to today...in exactly one week I will be at my one year "I'm going to do this" anniversary. As of yesterday I have lost 99 pound! (Of course I am HOPING I will lose at least one more pound in the coming week so I lose 100 pounds in a year.) If someone would have told me that I could even be 50 pounds lighter in a year I would have been jumping up and down. 100 seems unbelievable. I have never experienced the "honeymoon" phase of WLS. I just went back to all my weight records and see that I am the consistent turtle--- trudging along. But I have consistently been losing about 8+ pounds a month. These sure do add up! I am 2/3rds of the way to my goal. I feel fantastic now and everyone tells me how fantastic I look- who am I to argue with them???? Thank you for being a part of my journey. I don't really understand what "clicked" this time but am so glad it did and so glad I have the opportunity to share this with each of you.
  3. That is SO exciting! Not being Obese is such a big deal! So proud of you! Yes, we are getting quiet around here. I think we are all in our "rhythm" and this is now getting to be a habit. It is good to know that we will always be here for each other but looks like we are standing on our own a little bit more now. Everyone should be very proud.

Dupont Plan - Highmark BCBS Texas

I have the plan and I just had to be 40 bmi. They require 6 months of supervised diet with seeing dietician every month- I also had to do sleep study.
  5. Retrieverguy- Can't wait to see your outfit!
  6. I agree- amboyd! It doesn't matter where we are from, how old we are, or how much weight we started at-- we all have a connection because we are on this unique journey together that no one who hasn't done this will understand. I especially love our little group because we can actually keep track of each other and cheer each other on.
  7. I think our entire group is doing great! Of course I read about those folks who lose so much weight at first but over all it is nice to be going down--even if it is slower than we would like. We are all inching our way to goal which is so exciting! I can hardly wait until our first person on here makes it! What a celebration it will be. I don't care if I am the last one- Just as long as I make it--- and I am feeling so much better right now--- Love you guys!

    Venting

I had something similar. was supposed to be in September of 2015 And finally had it Nov 24th. It was frustrating but will just seem like a little blip ou plan after it is over. (doing liquid diet 3x was not as fun...) You can do
  9. Started my pre-op on March 1, 2015 (11 months ago). Lost 67 on preop diet. Had surgery Nov 24,2015. Have lost just about 90 pounds so far and am really hoping on my 1 year (starting this process) date that I will have lost 100 pounds. I will then be 2/3rd of the way through on my weight loss with only 50 pounds left. I think when doctors tell folks that they will only lose 60% of their excess weight that they are averaging in all those folks who don't follow the plan on what they should be doing. For those of us who do- I think getting to goal is SO achievable! Just look at all these wonderful folks on this site. That is why I log in a few time EVERY day. I don't want to forget that I need to keep on track and on this journey. Everyone encourages me-- from the veteran who is at goal and maintaining to the newbie who makes me remember why I decided to do this! Good luck!

    Talk you out of surgery?

A lot of folks tried to talk me out of it- They were worried about death during surgery. Now that it is over and I am feeling wonderful they seem to be OK. They truly were just worried for me.
  11. Let's get a shout out from everyone. Let's give our high weight, surgery weight, current weight. (And BMI) I noticed that a good portion of us are either under 35 BMI or pretty close. (Meaning that we officially WOULDN'T qualify for WLS if we tried now. ) List one thing that you wish you knew before the surgery and one thing that surprised you. HW 286 (BMI 52) SW 218 CW 196.5 (BMI 35.9) Surgery- You spend months and months obsessing about it. Then it happens and it is just a "blip" on the radar screen. Surprise- I feel fantastic and it doesn't seem like a very big deal now. I am also surprised how little I need to eat to actually survive! (and still feel energetic).

    Do You Log Your Food?

I track everything in my Fitbit app. (I also have the Fitbit scale so everything goes straight into the app so I've got my food, weight, Water intake, exercise etc.) I love to do it this way because I am on a lot of challenges with my family and this motivates me. I'm 2 months post-op but started tracking right at my first intro meeting. I really think it helped me lose almost 70 pounds before surgery. I'm going to keep it up.

    A Victory.

I started my journey last year on March 1, 2015. I'm not sure what happened but I just knew if I did not do something that I would die. (I know this sounds crazy-- but that is what I felt.) I went to my intro meeting and immediately started the pre-op diet. Dial ahead 9 months and I finally completed all my presurgery items and was approved for surgery on Nov 24, 2015. By that time I had already lost 67 pounds! (I actually contemplated not doing surgery since I was doing so well on my own....then reality sunk in that I have "done really well" before and ended up gaining everything back!) I am now down almost 90 pounds and am setting a goal of losing 100 pounds by my March 1st- one year from my start of the journey. Everyone's journey is different. I never anticipated that it would take 9 months before I had my surgery. But...I am so happy that I started the diet ASAP. It made my recovery so much smoother and also was not a big change when I did finally have the surgery. Since this is permanent- it helped me feel confident that I could do the program for the rest of my life. You should be so proud of yourself. Your journey has started!

    People Suck!

I know that shaking it off is always easier said than done. So--- Rant with us and we will tell you that your lovely insides are just waiting for your body to catch up! There will always be insensitive people in our lives. (I'm just trying not to be one of them...) Lose your weight- get strong- get healthy and that will be the best revenge.
  16. I was on my pre-op journey for almost 9 months and had lost close to 70 pounds by then. I remember asking the group if I really needed the surgery. I decided I had a much better chance of keep the weight off long term with the sleeve. Has my life changed?...actually... not too much. I did the pre-op diet for 9 months so I was pretty used to eating the way I am eating now (except now I have slight pressure which tells me I have eaten enough.) I am one of the very fortunate ones who does not get upset with any foods (that being said- I do not eat refined carbs....so I'm not sure if these upset me or not.) I don't have reflux, I don't get constipated. Overall I feel fantastic. Since I lost a lot of weight pre-surgery- I did not lose the huge amounts that some folks do. Basically I'm losing about the same amount I did when I was doing the pre-op diet. Slow and steady...and it all adds up. I still get hungry (I know some say they don't) but I just now know what I need to feed my body. I am so thankful for this forum! I was scared before surgery but the day of surgery I felt confident and comfortable in all the prep I had done beforehand. Since you have been contemplating this for 3 years I am sure you are well prepared and will do great. I think my most exciting moment was when I woke up in recovery and realized that it was done! What a wonderful moment. Good Luck!
  17. I am definitely going to get everything cut off! I've only lost 88 or so pounds so far and my body looks like it is melting! I have heard that you need to maintain your weight for a minimum of 6 months before even considering surgery. So I am saving my pennies.
  18. I am almost 2 months post-op. Just got back on Sunday from an 8 day cruise. I was a little worried before I went but realized once I got on the cruise that I was so much more healthy and fit. food was not a problem (no one ever really notices what folks leave on their plates. I didn't ever have to mention that I had surgery.) The good thing was that I was pretty much healed by that time. Tried not to take elevators- just stairs (typically could get in about 20 flights a day. Even visited a historic fort and walked up all stairs and ramps (my fitbit said I did an equivalent of 47 flights of stairs! Who would have ever thought! I did make myself a Water bottle "sling" so that I always had liquid with me. I also made sure that I brought with me some Protein Bars so I always had something readily available in case when we were running around I could not find anything appropriate to eat. (I find that now if I get overly hungry I tend to get an upset tummy.) A little upfront planning and hopefully everything will go well for you. Have fun!
  19. I've never used fitness pal. Is it a better logging system than the one in fitbit?
  20. I have the Fitbit Aria scale. It automatically posts my weight to my dashboard. I use the Fitbit dashboard for my steps, weight and for recording my food and liquid consumption. Just love it.
  21. Hallelujah. I finally made it to Onederland! it has taken almost 11 months and I am doing a happy dance!
  22. Oh forgot to mention that I did a tour of an old fort in San Juan and made it up all the stairs and ramps without even thinking about it! When I looked at my fitbit for that day I had done an equivalent of 42 flights of stairs! Who would have ever thought....
  23. Just got back from my 8 day cruise. Happy that I kept to plan--- not happy to come back to below zero weather! I haven't really lost a lot since surgery... I go to my doctor's on Wednesday which is my 8 week follow up and am only down 3 pounds in 6 weeks. Not sure what is happening but at least it is going down- even if it is slow. My NSV is that I was able to purchase closed in the regular Misses area- not plus size- for the cruise. Yes- it was the largest size in the misses area but so many more choices! I actually had a portrait taken on the cruise (something I definitely would not have done before!) I don't think I look FAT anymore- just chubby LOL!

    Am I losing too slow?

I am 6 weeks out and have lost 16 pounds. It doesn't really matter how fast we lose. Who cares if it takes some of us a little longer to get to goal. Overall we just want to get there and along the way build up wonderful life sustaining habits that will keep us at goal. Plus...maybe our skin won't look quite as saggy...LOL
