  1. Our HR department did sexual harassment training several years ago and they said that you should never, EVER, ask anyone about their weight, particularly women. It can result in a sexual harassment claim. Less than a week later, an idiot VP introduced an administrative assistant in a staff meeting with 100+ people as the "incredible shrinking woman." You should have seen the shocked looks on the women in the room.
  2. I am not having this surgery because I'm tired of negative attention. I'm having it to improve my health, period. I do not have self-confidence issues. I know I am beautiful, smart, successful, and sexy.
  3. ^^^^^AWESOME! ^^^^^AWESOME!
  4. One of my friends had the sleeve a little more than two weeks ago. I asked him on his two-week anniversary if he regretted anything. He said -- waiting so long to do the surgery. He has lost more than 30 lbs in his two weeks. He feels great. His pain went away two days after he came home from the hospital, and it wasn't that bad to begin with. He has been a huge support for me, emailing me almost every day with tips and things he's discovering as he goes through this process. He sent me his entire pre-op and post-op eating plan. His advice: It's so worth it! My PCP said to stop thinking about the surgery when I start getting afraid. Just put it out of my mind and think about how much healthier I'll be afterward. She's totally right. WE CAN DO THIS!

    Gastric bypass risks.

RNY is considered the gold standard for WLS. My surgeon said the sleeve is the "new kid on the block" and there's not a lot of long-term data on it yet. However, they do know that, on average, more weight is lost with RNY than the sleeve. I have acid reflux so I opted for RNY (having surgery in about a week). However, I probably would have done it anyway since I RNY involves much less cutting than the sleeve.

    sleep apnea diagnosis

Start using it as soon as you get it. You will feel A LOT better!
  8. What did you do for surgical pre-op testing? I had to have an EKG, lab work, etc. for my surgery packet. Also have had Upper GI and ultrasound. Now I'm about a week away and I have to go to surgical pre-op testing tomorrow. Just wondering what this is going to entail. I was told no need to fast.

    Full is different

This is so funny. When I went in for my ultrasound, the technician showed me where my stomach ended. I didn't realize it was so high up. All these years when I've rubbed my "belly" for a belly ache, I've been rubbing my large intestine!

    Getting the protein in

These are ridiculously delish! I have used coffee with the chocolate and vanilla to make a sort of protein shake ice coffee. So good!

    Rave for my husband

Major rave for my husband. We have been together for nearly 20 years and he's witnessed my weight difficulties first hand. He's been through a million diet attempts with me. I'm a month from surgery and he's become my biggest cheerleader. The other day he said we should start saving money for all of the new skinnier clothes I'm going to need. And he said at some point I may want to get a boob lift if the girls are too saggy for me. I know this surgery scares him, but he's starting to get excited about how healthy I'm going to become and how much happier I'll be. I also think he secretly is excited that I'll want to go to Disney with him more!

    Increased attention post-weight loss...

There also is a lot of discrimination in the workplace regarding people who are overweight/obese. They are seen as less competent. As you lose weight, it make sense that you may see changes in how coworkers treat you. Sad, but true.

    Question about dumping

I have several food allergies so dumping syndrome (I call it IBS-D) is not new for me. One of my worst episodes was at the Magic Kingdom when I drank a fruit smoothie. I was trying to avoid dairy, which is a major trigger for me. But it was LOADED with sugar. I started to sweat heavily, get dizzy, cramp up, and had to run to the restroom. TMI Warning: I had explosive diarreah. After about 30 minutes in the bathroom, I thought it was safe to walk across the park to first aid to get some Immodium. I finally felt better about an hour later. I've also experienced something similar when I eat MSG, which is in a lot of chinese food. Within 10-15 minutes, I'm running to the bathroom.
  19. Ultrasound, Upper GI, NUT: done Surgical nurse and surgeon: next week NUT confirmed that Aug. 10 will be my date if everything continues to go well. Whoot!
  20. I'm tentatively scheduled for Monday, Aug. 10, and starting the round robin of medical appointments after my doc approved my packet. Had ultrasound yesterday. This week: Upper GI and NUT. Next week: surgical nurse and my doc. If all goes well, the surgical coordinator said Aug. 10 will be my date. I'm going to ask the doc if he can get me in sooner, though. :-)

    Burping

So this may seem like a strange question, but after bypass, do you still burp? Or burp less? Is it painful?

    Transformation

Congratulations! So happy for your success!
  23. You all are so inspirational. My tentative surgery date is Aug. 10, and it feels like a rebirth for me, too. I can relate to the protective layers, and I have a few therapists lined up if I become overwhelmed by feeling vulnerable.
