    what's your fat habit?

This. I'm still struggling with this. I regularly put back half my dinner.

    Piggin' out ????

Secret -- you can eat a lot of what you age presurgery after surgery. You just eat much smaller amounts.
  4. I could not lift anything more than 10 lbs for a month after surgery. So I'd say at least that long. You don't want to put any pressure on your abdomen area, and snowmobiling can be pretty taxing on that area.
  5. So I have a coworker who has been very, very supportive of my WLS. She is one of the few people who really knows the ins and outs of everything. She's a bit of an odd duck though, socially awkward. Anyhow, the other day when I came in wearing older, smaller size clothes that she'd never seen before, she said she was "jealous of my WL." That struck me as very strange, given that she knows what I've gone through and what I continue to go through. I know she really meant she was envious of my WL and that she said it with the best of intentions. But still... Thoughts? I didn't know how to respond so I just didn't. BTW, this is someone who is in her 60s and is overweight, but not obese. Like many women, she also struggles with her weight.

    What's everyone eating for thanksgiving?

We're having the traditional Thanksgiving meal, with a few twists. No one can agree on veggies (too many picky men) so my mom is bringing a green salad. Yummo! And I've asked her to bring a fresh fruit salad. I just can't seem to get enough fruit after RNY. It tastes so fresh, and that's what I crave now. Hubby is smoking our turkey so it will be really juicy and tender.

Just want to say hello from Poland

Welcome and congrats! My father's family are Polish immigrants who came to America in 1904.

    People envious of WL

I understand that this was a compliment. Like I said, she has been very supportive of this journey. She has complimented me numerous times saying, "You look great" or "You're doing great." What was strange this time was that she personalized it about her -- that she was jealous. Felt very odd.
  9. So interesting what we all are told by our doctors. My doctor told me that if I stayed with the plan, I could lose my excess weight within 18 months.

    Stomach virus

I don't understand the antibiotics either. Every time I've had a stomach virus, my doctor has said that I just have to let it pass. I've always been told to make sure I hydrate, even if it's ice chips.

    Tomorrow is my day!

You had major surgery so it would be totally expected that you'd be tired. I was very tired my first two weeks. Congratulations on your journey so far!

    What is your full signal?

I get to a point where eating any more is VERY unappealing. I just get full and have no interest in eating. It is a very strong feeling, nothing like I've ever felt. It really prevents me from overeating.

    Disney World!

We just returned from WDW and had a great time! Even though it was 90+ degrees and high humidity, I really was not sweating. And, I could keep up with my long-legged, tall husband! I was able to ride all the rides I wanted. My biggest challenge was figuring out what to eat in restaurants and dealing with all of the take-home meals in our condo! LOL!
  14. I am a little more than 3 months out and approaching a total WL of 80# (pre and post RNY). I had a great recovery and no complications.
  15. I had RNY about three months ago. Normally I am on the BC pill continuously, which means I never get a period. However, I started my period, despite being on the pill, and I'm now on day 13. Holy hell. I've never had this happen. I've called my RNY doc who said to go to my ob-gyn. Ob-gyn booked me for my annual exam -- in January! I know irregular menstrual cycles are normal after losing a fair amount of weight, but I'd love to hear from others who have had to deal with crazy long periods after losing a lot of weight after RNY.

    Fertile Myrtle?

I have been on birth control pills continuously for many years. I never get my period. However, I'm now on day eight of my period, even though I'm still taking BC pills. What. The. Heck? I know the weight loss releases estrogen, and it can really do a doosey on us hormonally, but my body is acting as if I'm not even taking BC pills. Do you think I'm more fertile now? Should I use backup BC?

    Your thoughts?

Amen to all of this. More than ever before, eating the wrong types of foods makes me feel terrible. I hate that so I avoid those foods, always. My cravings for fresh fruits and veggies have increased, which is a good thing. And I wholeheartedly agree with food not being that big of a deal anymore. It is so so great to not have food controlling my life the way it did in the past. I feel freedom.

    Quest chips?

Meh. I bought a few bags. They are okay. Nothing to write home about. I'm not going to buy them again.

    Bypass VS Sleeve

I had RNY three months ago and have now lost 76# (pre and post op). These are the reasons I chose the bypass: -- Surgery has been done for 50+ years and has a long history of success. -- Is considered the gold standard of WLS. On average people lose more weight with RNY than any other WLS. -- Eliminates acid reflux. The sleeve can make this worse. -- BP instantly normal after surgery. -- "Disconnects" the hunger hormones. My hunger is nothing like it was before surgery. -- Old stomach is still intact and part of my system. I have had no complications. My recovery has been amazing. I was off my pain meds three days after coming home from the hospital. I can eat anything I want, although I don't because I don't feel good afterward. I am losing an average of 3 pounds a week. I've had no stalls.
  20. Today marks three months since I had RNY. I have lost 75 pounds (pre and post op) and dropped 3 or 4 sizes (depends on if its a top or pants). I feel really good. My blood pressure is normal. My joints don't hurt. I can walk briskly and up flights of stairs without getting out of breath. And I feel like I "fit" in this world better. A few observations: * This has been a huge learning experience. While I would do it again, it has not come without its hiccups. I am still testing and trying foods that I used to be able to eat. If anything makes me feel bad, I don't eat it again. * I am losing about 3 pounds a week, consistently. I have not had a significant stall. * Anything high in sugar makes my heart race and causes me to sweat. Anything high in fat gives me diarrhea. These are HUGE incentives to not eat those foods. I HATE how they make me feel. * I love, love, LOVE fresh fruit. More than I ever did before surgery. Holy moley, love it! * I can eat different quantities of different foods. Example: I can eat a lot more Soup and salad at one sitting that beef. * I have had the foamies three or four times. They lasted for about 10 minutes. Way not fun, but you get through it. * I have tried alcohol. I don't like how it makes me feel, at all. So, no more. Just not worth it. * I decided to stay off caffeine. It was so difficult to get off caffeinated coffee before surgery that I never want to go through that again. * I still can gulp Water. Yummo! * I have NOT exercised intentionally. I make a point of walking more, but I'm not someone who loves to exercise for exercise sake. That said, I did go out canoeing with my hubby this summer and had a blast. A kayak is on my to-buy list for next summer. * People (e.g. spouse) may get sick of your pro-active weight loss updates. My husband has been hugely supportive but telling him every other day that I've lost another pound gets old after awhile. I've stopped doing that, and let him ask me how I'm doing (which he does). * This really is an individual journey. You have to find what works best for you. What one person can eat, you may not be able to eat. And no matter what others think about your weight loss journey, the most important opinion is yours.

    Is dumping syndrome forever?

I get diarrhea with anything high in fat, and the sweats/heart racing with anything too sugary. However, I have had IBS-D for many years so most of this is just par for the course. Just stay away from those foods, and you will be fine. Really, it's not that big of a deal.

    Three Years Post-op Today

Thank you so much for your post. I am 2.5 months out from RNY and down 70#. I am feeling great. However, I've been wondering if my appetite will change years out and that the old pre-RNY hunger will come back. I'm so glad to read your story that it doesn't.
