How Will This Thanksgiving Be Your Healthiest Yet?
QuilterGal replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Salads are a no-go for me since surgery. I'll focus on the turkey and root veggies. -
Do You Use Alcohol after Weight Loss Surgery?
QuilterGal replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
My body reacts much differently to alcohol post-op. I get a quick buzz but it goes away very fast. I've never been hung over since I had surgery. -
Husband and I have a motorhome. Before surgery, showering in the motorhome shower was uncomfortable. If I didn't stand a certain way, my butt would hit the side of the shower. And washing certain parts was a challenge because I couldn't contort my body in the right way. Well, now that I'm down 106#, I LOVE the motorhome shower. No hitting the side of anything with my butt. I can move around and wash everywhere with ease. Now I just need to get out of there and end my spa-like motorhome showers before we run out of hot water!

I did not feel like myself until three weeks after surgery. I was very emotional a week after surgery, which I attributed to major hormonal fluctuations. I also had a few panic attacks. I just tried to keep calm and take it day by day. By the third week, I was fine. I think my hormones had leveled out enough, and I was getting into my post-op routine. Hang in there.

Me too. I have not encountered anyone who has been negative about my WLS. But if I did, I'd tell them to f--- off, that they were ignorant about the basic facts of WLS. This has been THE BEST decision of my life. OF. MY. LIFE. I am so much healthier and happier. I have my life BACK.

I don't have a problem with Arctic Zero. I eat the ones with only 5g of sugar per serving. I have many more issues with lactose and since it's lactose free, it works for me. However, my favorite "ice cream" is mixing nonfat greek yogurt with frozen blueberries and stevia. The frozen blueberries turn the yogurt into a gelato sort of consistency. It's freaking delicious.

Lived in a bathing suit on vacay and loved it
QuilterGal posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hubby and I went to the Caribbean last week for a week. I spent most of the week in a bathing suit and loose shorts that I had not fit into in years. I cannot tell you how totally awesome it was to just feel so at ease in my body and not worry about feeling fat. Oh, and I also lost 2 lbs! On vacation! And I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. We went out to eat at least once a day, and I had pizza for the first time since surgery. Of course, it took three meals for me to eat one personal pizza whereas hubby wolfed his down the first night at the restaurant. LOL! -
Surgery woes: Grandpa begged me not to have the surgery
QuilterGal replied to crazygoose's topic in Rants & Raves
You are more likely to die of obesity and its effects than of surgery. Good luck today. If it helps, my recovery was relatively pain-free. I definitely could have managed on my own. Please let us know how everything goes. -
Looked in the mirror this morning and saw my collar bones. Closing in on 100# lost. Yeah, I rock.

The post op return to work
QuilterGal replied to nurse247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took three weeks. I could have gone back after two weeks, but I feel that third week was important for me. I struggled with panic attacks after surgery and I didn't feel like myself emotionally until week three. -
When was your surgery? I didn't have this kind of pain, but my surgery was laproscopic. I was off all my pain meds three days after leaving the hospital.

As we wrap up 2015, I find myself reflecting on my RNY. I am still surprised that I went through with my July 27 surgery. I started the process in early March, quickly qualifying for the surgery. My surgeon moved up my surgery by two weeks at the beginning of June. At that point, it became very real that this was happening. I immediately went on a liquid diet and stopped all meds. I pushed my fears aside throughout the process, knowing that my surgeon was well qualified. As my husband said, "this isn't his first rodeo." Since surgery, I have learned to listen to my new system and attend to its needs. I know what makes it happy and what doesn't. And I know I will pay a price for eating the wrong foods. I've found interesting how my taste buds have changed and how much I crave fruit. My hair has started to thin, but I know this is temporary. But more than anything, I am stunned by how much weight I have lost (and continue to lose). I have lost 90# this year, 40# before surgery and 50# since surgery. I feel fantastic. I am so thankful I didn't let my fears overwhelm me, and I went forward with this life-changing event. Happy New Year, everyone!

I have been on Actigall for six months since my surgery as a precaution to prevent gall stones. I wonder if it's okay now to stop taking this since I had my six-month checkup yesterday, and everything was smashingly fabulous. My PC didn't mention stopping it, but I think it was an oversight.

Doc said no more Actigall! Whooot!

Are you COLDER after surgery?
QuilterGal replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely feel more cold minus 90#. The good thing is that now hubby and I don't fight over the thermostat! -
Question for those who've chosen not to share their WLS
QuilterGal replied to CHM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say take the earlier date and tell the in-laws. You can ask them to keep it to themselves, but if it slips out, I don't think it will be a huge deal. I have yet to have anyone judge me to my face or say anything nasty about my decision. I have received OVERWHELMING support from family, friends, and coworkers. The people who love you only want you to be healthy and happy. Those who don't want you to be healthy and happy are not worth your time and energy. -
FYI -- I'm waiting on a response from the doc, but I wanted to see what everyone's experience was here with this.

Does burping mean my pouch is full?
QuilterGal replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have two kinds of burping. There's a burping/gurgling when I'm eating, which I think has to do with the food moving into my stomach/intestine. And then there's the longer-term real burping that I think is related to eating too fast/too much. I just had my six-month checkup yesterday, and the doc agreed with me on the eating too fast/too much burping. So I'm now working on slowing things down and being more mindful. -
I'm planning to go out tomorrow!

Huge milestone and hope for the New Year
QuilterGal replied to Cervidae's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations! -
I was standing for a presentation the other day and as I was listening to others speak, I found myself casually looking down at my feet. A few minutes later, it dawned on me -- I CAN SEE MY FEET AGAIN! I just smiled and thought about how totally awesome I already look and feel.

Congratulations!

Does Your Family’s Kitchen Support Weight Loss?
QuilterGal replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I find that junk foods are extremely unappealing since RNY. They make me feel SO bad and so there's a huge incentive to not eat them. I've never experienced anything so strong. So, so far, so good. -
After END was told had to have BiPass instead of Sleeve?
QuilterGal replied to Land12345's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said at the first educational session that he would not do the sleeve on anyone who had gerd/acid reflux/took prilosec or other meds for it. He said the sleeve usually makes it worse. As a result, I had RNY. -
