Choosing a surgeon for Bariatric Surgery was a process for me and my husband. We wanted to be absolutely positive that he/she was not only brilliant and a great surgeon but also had an understanding of obesity and everything that comes with it. We wanted to be sure that the surgeon as trained, educated and had empathy for the morbidly obese while also understanding I would need him/her and their practice in my life to help me with this struggle. I was NOT looking for a one and done. Surgeon, Support and Education was my criteria for choosing a practice. We found it all. It takes time to vet the surgeon and also find exactly who and where it have the surgery. We wanted the hospital to be a Center of Excellence in Bariatrics'. Lindsey S. Sharp MD and his practice (REX Bariatric Surgeons) fit my criteria and have exceeded my expectations in all aspects almost 5 years later. Dr. Sharp and his practice have provided me with a great tool, great support and education to keep myself focused and successful.

How Did You Choose Your Surgeon?
CathyArsenault replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Months of searching. The hospital had to be a "Center of Excellence" and the practice had to have lifetime surveillance. The actual surgeon had to: have an excellent surgical reputation amongst his/ her peers, with his patients and at the hospitals he/she is affiliated with. I was changing my entire life and I needed someone that was going to "coach me" through the good and hard times for the rest of it. I had/have to have someone that is approachable because this is not easy and I need someone that I am be 100% myself with and feel safe to be vulnerable without being judged. Lastly I had to find a practice that worked as a team to support their patients with the Surgeon as "quarterback". I found it all. It took me realizing this was a huge step so it would take time to find the right fit for me. -
What about WLS Weighs You Down?

it can be a double edged blessing. Getting both the fluids in a and the Protein requirement both can be exhausting. Knowing that by doing this I win for another day - balances it.
