    Do have Mirena?

I've been reading some old post on those of you that have Mirena for heavy bleeding. I'm wondering if there is anyone that it didn't help with this problem? Has anyone had weight gain since getting put in? Have you noticed a change in how fast your losing weight since you had it put in? And, this may be awkward...but how do you check the"threads"? I've looked on the Mirena website and can't find that...it says your healthcare provider will show you how? Do you check the threads monthly? One of the older post someone states that her partner didn't like nuva ring because he could feel it? Has anyone had there partner tell them they can feel it? I've had my tubes tied since 1990.....never had any reason to give bc a second thought.... there are so many different choices now. I was only on the pill for 3 years before I had my daughter and not quite 3 years after...same pill both times and weight gain was the only problem I had with it. So, that's my excuse for asking dumb questions...naive. Ruth
  2. I find online best for me. I can find support when I need it most and not have to wait for that monthly/weekly support group meeting. It also works best for my schedule. The one meeting I did go to has all types of wls and I found most of them at the time to be bypass patients. Also, I really like my dr, but if I had one that made me feel bad for asking questions, I would be looking for another doctor quickly, just my opinion. Ruth

    Do have Mirena?

Update... So after talking to the another dr and he had the results from the second reading of the ultrasounds, it appears that the large Fluid mass is not attached to the ovary. They will be removing it and he's not too concerned about it. The right ovary does have a solid mass inside it, which he said could very well be scar tissue but it will be sent to pathology along with the other stuff. I have several fibroid tumors that will also be removed, and we aren't concerned about those either because apparently they are common. And last but not least I'm having ablation to stop my periods...yeah. Of the two possibles on the large fluid mass, one is pretty gross, I told my hubby I have to see it no matter what. I told him I would take a pic and show him and he declined. He said "some mysteries are better left mysteries and he was fine with that mystery". lol.....i think he has been totally grossed out but very supportive. Ruth

    Do have Mirena?

Well when I first started this thread I thought all I had to do was decide what type of birth control to use to control my heavy periods. But, its not that simple. I have a pre-op consult Friday to have a cyst removed from my right ovary. The Dr tells me that I have a 14cm x14cmx14cm cyst. I had to google and convert that to inches....thats 5.51 inches square(not really but you know what I mean). She explained that I couldn't wait on this and so now I go talk to the Dr that will do surgery. The good news is that she said it looks like Fluid and no real tissue. So the internet junkie that I am, I had to check this out. Sometimes one can really have to much info...ya know. I just get myself more worked up. What experiences can anyone share with me on this? This appears to be a big cyst. I've had my tubes tied for almost 19 years now...so I really don't care what they have to take out. I really need to hear from anyone that's been thru this. Ruth

    Do have Mirena?

lmao jennifer. I was going to go with the pill yaz...but the more i researched yaz, i don't think i want to try it. Seems like mirena might have a lot loss risks or side effects than yaz.

Girls, Need Help ASAP With a Bra!

I like the enell bra. They are a little pricey but well worth it in my opinion. I got mine for $50, but I've spent $20-25 on everyday bras for support. The girls don't move in the enell. Ruth

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I read this thread to help keep me motivated. I'm doing something similar to the c25k. Today I did 4-90sec runs with 90 secs in between. My husband went with me this morning but just for company, this is a lot slower/less than what he is used to. I can't see getting past the 90 secs at a time right now. Next step up is to run 2:15:scared2:. But I read this thread and it helps to know that others started the same way I am. You guys/gals are an inspiration. Thanks. Ruth

    Do have Mirena?

Thanks all for your input. I was thinking of a pill but the more I researched and after talking to you all....i think i will give this a try. It will be so nice not to have a period....but like I told my husband this doesn't get rid of the mood swings, lol. They have been awful, he says i've been a lunatic! Thanks again, Ruth

Does anyone color their own hair?

I had a color once I didn't like, and waited 7 days before I colored again. I also washed it the same day...didn't help much tho. I use Loreal Excellence Creme also, have for years now and color every 5-6 weeks or so. I tried the Garnier(spelling??) brand once and it didn't seem to cover my greys in the temple areas....but it smelled good. Ruth
  12. Going from size 20/22 to 16 and not shopping for plus sizes. Having my 22 year old daughter tell me she wants to try on my jeans because they are cool:thumbup:....and she still shops for clothing in the jr's section. Getting away from the idea that I have to eat out at a buffet type resturant and get my monies worth. Feel better mentally and physically. Ruth

    TURKEY DAY Challenge 2009

I think this challenge is just what I needed. I've lost 3lbs. since Monday.....BUT....I was REALLY bad last weekend so some of that is bound to come off faster. I have got up at 4:30am 2 mornings and did a walk/jog program, I've had it for months but was too lazy to use and I played softball last night(which I've been doing once a week since spring). Took today off but will be back at it tomorrow. Also there is a Turkey Day 5k close to home... I'm gonna give that a try. I've had no motivation to get off my lazy butt. I forgot how good I felt after exercise. Ruth
  14. Congrats on the NSV's! I've been reading your blog this morning....it's great!:mad2: Ruth

NSAIDS-- Do You Or Don't You....

Hi Jim, I recently had this same problem. My bariatric doctors have told us repeatedly never take nsaids. Then I go to my GP for what is probably arthritis or tennis elbow and she wanted to give me an anti-flamatory. I explained what the bariatric docs had said and before I left her office she had me convinced that it was ok for a week or 10 days. I got the script filled but it just wasn't setting well with me so I called my bariatric doc and explained what the GP said and they said absolutely do not take it. They have seen patients have to have blood transfustions after 2 doses, because of bleeding ulcers, I think. Anyway, I don't but I have read on lbt some people that do take ibuprofen and other nsaids. Bottom-line is what your doc says and in my case I don't think my GP is really up on the bariatric stuff. At the same time I wouldn't go to my bariatric doc for flu related or cold stuff. Just my opinion.

    Why were YOU overweight?

I like this thread. I came from one of those families where you didn't waste, you put it on your plate, you cleaned your plate. Of course, we were a meat and taters househould. Most of the women on my side of the family were large women, we like to cook and we liked to eat. When we get together, there is always food, more than we need. I had an unhappy childhood and also turned to food when I was lonely, depressed, happy, hungry or oooohhhh that looks good! I was always bigger than most girls I went to school with but not obese. Then I got pregnant, gained way too much because I was pregnant and could eat whatever I wanted, right...if I knew then what I know now. I gained 60 pounds and I lost 20 pounds when I had my daughter and never lost any more. I dieted and my weight was up and down after that, but food always won in the end.
  19. I'm looking for bander is Mexico, MO? PM me if you want. I'm having trouble committing to the exercise and I think it would help if to have someone going thru the same to exercise with.

    How did you decide?

msustu, I personally couldn't have gone any other way than the band. The others were too invasive for me to be comfortable with. Also, I think the surgeons take into consideration how much you have to lose among other things, and some surgeons specialize more in one surgery than another. Its ultimately your decision. Good luck on your journey.
  21. I'm also morally opposed, but why not tax their earnings like everyone else. In the past I've seen things on the news about madames that make a lot more money yearly than I do...tax free no doubt. Also, if it was legal, wouldn't that provide the prostitutes with more protection from those that hurt them now? Do you think many of those that pay for this type of service would lose interest if they know they would fall under the laws of protection we all have in the work place?

    ok..I did it!

I've been reluctant to post pictures on here because I have never ever liked having my picture taken let alone put it out for the world to see. But here I am 8 months out, slowly losing...but couldn't have done it without my band.
